Oh boy.ouch not good.I hope it doesn’t put you off.I really wish you the best.personally my 1999 bullet never had a kill switch, just decompress….my ignition switch was a bit dodge, down behind the battery,in the side box,in with the emissions thingie….needed lots of on/off to get the connections clean again…best wishes,
@@benrobertson7855 Thanks and I think the electrical issues are almost solved (for now). I definitely won’t be discouraged and give up on this bike. I’ve come WAY TOO FAR at this point 😂. And it’s a lot of fun to ride
You can take the locks apart and rearrange the wafers so the same key fits all of them. You can practice on your old one first to see how it works. There are quite a few how-tos out there. Or you can just take the wafers out of the sidebox and fuel cap locks so any key will open them. It's a kichen table job, lots of small springs.
Enjoying your journey. If you are not overly concerned with originality you can "upgrade" to a japanese coil and a modern regulator/rectifier unit. You may also find your new ignition switch needs subtle modification to fit. These machines are endless 'fun'.
Thanks for watching! The new regulator/rectifier is fine for now. If anything, I’d get a Beru blue coil to replace the Lucas. And we’ll see about the new ignition switch as it’s a bit different from the original. Endless fun for sure 😂
Did you try to clean the carbon deposites inside the ignition switch? Some time ago I too faced this issue. Cleaning the switch points helped me to fix this.
I thought about it, but chose not to take it apart. The new ignition switch was cheap enough and I ordered a couple of other things in the process, so I figure it’s best just to install a new switch. Peace of mind if nothing else.
As I said before, electrics are the Black Arts!! If you should ever need parts, try Sheffield British Motorcycles, they're over here in the UK. It's only a small shop, but have thousands of parts, a website, ship worldwide and really know British bikes. Looking forward to your upcoming videos 👍
Wow! Looks great. You wouldnt get the feel of riding one of these classice till they dont die on you just when you had thought that you have figured it out 😅. You get down fix it and ride it again. Mine turned out to be the gap in the sparkplug that was killing the spark...it was too close. For the 350 the gap is supposed to be between 0.46mm to 0.5mm. and by mistake i had kept it at 0.25mm.
I think I’ve FINALLY solved the electrical mysteries tonight. The new ignition switch solved a couple of anomalies and it turns out that the sensor on my electronic ignition was bad. I fortunately had a new timing plate and sensor as a spare, and now the bike runs perfectly and starts within 3 kicks cold. Ho, ho, ho (first ride video coming after Christmas and before New Years). And yes, people underestimate how important the spark plug gap is. Mine came with a 0.3 gap and it’s supposed to be 0.2 - I’m surprised how wide your 350 is
@@Cyclingwithgasolineinfact my Enfield manual that came along with the bike back in 2007 days 0.6 mm. I am going to try that tomorrow and see how that goes. 0.46-0.5 mm is recommended in Pete Snidal's manual. Let's see. Thank you. Keenly waiting for your next video.
Man, this is why I've always stripped all the wiring out of my bikes, and put in my own. Of course, in the days I was doing that, I didn't include such superfluous things like "turn signals."
I had planned to just replace the wiring harness, but I couldn’t find a new one anywhere. I think I’m close to having things stable, though. And I’d lose the turn signals if I could 😂
@Cyclingwithgasoline if I ever got pulled over on that because I have no turn signals, I'd just say it's an antique from India! Anyways, I've really enjoyed your videos, I need an iron barrel RE!
To help you determine your electrical gremlins i recommend a book by Tracy Martin How to diagnose and repair motorcycle electrical systems. It's section on voltage drop testing is worth it's weight in gold. Once i understood it i have been able to solve my electrical problems easily. With that an my power probe i am almost a wizard.
@@markbeale7390 Well, in their defense, India started building Bullets under license in the 50s when English Enfields were still in production. When they went bankrupt (along with triumph, BSA, etc.), Indian production was thriving and they were THE bike for the country (like Harley and the US). The problem was, like the tradition VW Beetle, they basically made the same bike for 50 years, so it was an obsolete “antique” still being sold new in 2006. You can look back and realize what a rare opportunity it was to own such a bike new from the factory, but at the time it was a hard sell. At this point, mine is better than new with improved parts and all the kinks worked out - AND IT’S RUNNING RELIABLY AGAIN! I’ll have a first ride and final explanation soon
Welcome to the RE club, electrical issues will never go away trust me on this, I own a 2002 model machismo AVL 350
Yeah, hopefully I can just get a few months or more between glitches 😂

I might mess with it in the future. It’s fine for now. Thanks

I just put Tripmachine leather cable organisers and grip wraps on mine. Looks good and cuts about 10% bar vibrations.
Very cool

You couldn't give away Royal Enfield bullets when i a biker in the 70s.
I remember 20 years ago the dealers in my area couldn’t sell them. And these were the best versions of them before switching to EFI
@Cyclingwithgasoline whole factory 🏭 ended up in india nobody else wanted it.
