2019 ROYAL ENFIELD 500 CLASSIC REVIEW

- I recently bought my 26th motorcycle, and my second Royal Enfield. This is a 2019 Classic 500c EFI. After owning it less than two weeks I made this video review, to give you my first impressions, and in case it helps you if you're thinking of buying one of these classic motorbikes. I apologise in advance for the wind noise on the video, but I do live in 'Windy Wellington' in New Zealand!
A lovely motorcycle.
Hi from across the "ditch" Mike,
Try LED's in the "engine indicator lamps - neutral, fuel etc" very easy job, can see them in bright daylight. For easy main road cruising try a 19t front sprocket. Lowers engine revs in top gear. I've done both to my 500.
Regards
Gaz
Cheers Gaz, good advice 😊
Thank you very much for such a heartfelt video!
I am in Belarus and recently bought myself a 2015 Bullet 500. It is a rarity for our area. Mileage is only 500 km. Soon I plan to record a video where I will tell you about my new friend. I hope that I will experience the same emotions! It is a pity that we do not have such magnificent nature! Good luck!
Enjoy your new motorcycle! I'm sure you'll have many happy hours riding it. I look forward to seeing your own video sometime :-)
I recently purchased a 2016 C500 a month or so ago and couldn’t be happier. Absolutely gorgeous looking bikes and to me, the vibration is F-all although believe it or not I’m still running the motor in so haven’t hit highway speeds yet but regardless, this bike is never leaving my possession, just beautiful looking bikes.
Great review. Thanks Mike. I'm still looking but after comments from friends I'm going to look at the Meteor. I do love the 500 though.
Mike,
I had a 2018 RE classic 500 in gunmetal gray. Traded it in when I got a 650 but I miss 500. The value of the kick starter is to crank it and drive out remaining oil during oil changes. Use premium synthetic oil to minimize false neutrals but it also helps to not be in a hurry to up shift. My bike had hydraulic lifters so you only need to check valve clearance (20000 mile intervals). The rigidly mounted foot pegs were always a concern to someone who used to regularly scrap pegs (fear of lifting a tire off the road in a turn). Having a HD dyna bike, the vibration is okay, just check the fasteners regularly. You ought to really like the Hitchcock short muffler and an iridium spark plug. After installing let the bike idle without revving for 7 to 10 minutes and the CPU will learn (no remapping required). I used a lot of turtle wax and never put her away wet to prevent rusting. I could go on but I miss my 500, enjoy yours.
Tom
Thanks for all the advice Tom. Always good to hear from people with experience. Cheers.
Why do you need to check the tappets on a bike with hydraulic lifters? Tom.
Mike, one more thing. The fuel cools the fuel pump. It is important get the fuel tank filled to protect the pump. Not unique to RE. Tom
Thanks for the insight. Decisions decisions...
Great review Mike. Personally I find the vibration rather off putting. I'm waiting to try a Himalayan. I bet it's great on the back roads.
I know what you mean. But I'm aiming to do more pottering around than pushing any speed limits!
Lovely bike.. I don't think they sold the ABS equipped 500cc in India. Only the 350cc went on till they brought out the new J-series. The vibrations can be reduced to an extent with a less restrictive muffler.
I have a Thunderbird 500X blue 2019 model and i removed the ABS, didn't like the intervention.
Bar the shaky camera, this is a very nice vid!, enjoyed it. I own 2 C500s and I’ve had plenty other brands come and go, my military C500 I’ve owned for 10 years so I think I’m qualified to say these are super awesome bikes. A few points thoughts, 1 sooner or later you will need new stays for the front mudguard. (And exhaust mounts and top engine mount) 2 the 500 always had a kickstart, it’s only the 350 that they removed it. 3 tank holds 13.8 L and the light comes on with around 7 L left on both mine. 4 as you said lights are good… if you’re into spotting owls.. . Is it worth owning one, man I couldn’t agree with you more! I’d like to ask you please replace the rivet on the little exhaust guard but I know it’s a waste of time, you’ll hear it on your recording, but don’t worry you get used to it! Subscribed! Keep riding and please keep filming!
Nice laconic style to this video mate. "It's a yes from me"
@@jamesbrundret1726 Thanks! 🙂
Hello Eddie here from North UK (are you sure your in NZ) Just purchased one of these , so your review was just what I needed , as its winter here and salt on the roads I can't really give it a long run yet , but like the bike lot and will look forward to spring when it eventually arrives ? one question I really dislike the tubed tyres/innertubes have you any thoughts or advice on punctures thanks for posting Thankyou Eddie
Hi Eddie from the Grim North (it's okay, I originally hail from Liverpool, so I can say that!). Sorry no, I don't have any sage advice about tubes or punctures. I'm lucky that in all the 26 bikes I've owned I've probably only ever had two flat tyres. I do know I'm not a fan of the so-called aerosol tube-fixing stuff - it doesn't seem to work. I do look forward to the day when I have a bike with sidecar though - then I can carry an entire spare wheel on the back of the chair! Hang in there, spring's only four months away... 🙂
You guys have gunmetal grey classic 500 back there? 😮 Haven’t seen one with that colour ever in India.
Try what i do. When on faster motorways/freeways. Try flicking the rear footpegs down one at a time with your heel as your riding its comfortable & hardly any vibes. Once you've done it a couple of times...you don't even think about putting your foot into the wheel haha.
Mike, here is a link to a UK you tube Enfield rider who has upgraded his 500 bulbs (ua-cam.com/video/l6s45ycjGhs/v-deo.html) he has added links to order these items (the video shows how to fit them). If your looking to increase fuel economy, Just reduce the weight of the bike by removing pillion seat, rear foot pegs and swop out the silencer for a 50' style one (with baffle, other wise your ears will fall off) you will surprised by just how much weight its shed, (Lighter bike = better fuel economy) thanks for your video nice see others views.
Thanks Paul, much obliged 😊
Mike Be interesting to see what tweeks you make to the 500, best thing about changing out the bulbs is that you will be able see if your in neutral or not and if you have left indicators on or not.
It was the last "old bike" that you can buy brand new. Quite amazing that you could buy a long stroke OHV pushrod single as a brand new bike. The only other example I can think of is maybe Harley, but thats another story. Also an Enfield like this one is cheap as chips, even though the price gets inflated outside India (where it.costs around 2k euro) and also special editions cost quite a bit more. Does it vibrate? Yes. Will it leak oil? Probably. Does it matter? No.
All spot-on!
2019 classic 500 desert storm korean owner here. how do you source your parts other than ebay?
@abuhamza3681 I haven't had to source any parts yet, as I've owned the bike only two weeks, but I have joined the NZ Royal Enfield Owners' Register, and I know the members are very helpful sharing information on parts, etc. I suggest if you have an RE group in your country you do the same...
Maybe try Hitchcock in the UK. That’s where I get my C500 parts/accessories 👍🏼
@@WallyTopper that's another way. Except it way too expensive 🫰
