I was fortunate as a kid in the mid 1960s to see Bob Newhart in a live performance at the Melodyland Theater in Anaheim. I had never seen him before, but I instantly could see he was a comedian and I enjoyed his phone monologuing. I must have been about 11 years old. Very funny guy. He will be missed.
July 18 2024 2 pm headlines that Bob Newhart, 94, has passed away. What a loss. Unique form of comedy, like nobody else. Great acting to put it over. And always played such a nice guy, which was unique too. Professor Proton, for real. Oh, dammit.
Dean Martin was a talent machine. When I was a kid and listened to him he always sounded a bit drunk. Now 40 years later he still does.Great show Mr. Martin.
@@SBel65 It has been a while since I have watched this. Good humor doesn't have to rely on current events. Sometimes it is easy to forget how talented Bob Newhart was. He was essentially making people laugh with a history book.
I remember the galloping gourmet (graham Kerr) and Julia child always sounded half drunk too but I think that was bc they were always drinking wine on their cooking shows, the other one I remember always sounding drunk back then was Peter O'Toole.
We've been eating turkeys in England for centuries, and although not at thanksgiving, (which we don't have), certainly at Christmas. Bob Newheart was great though, and my mum used to play me his routines on vinyl in the 60s.
He was a great Comedian, God Rest his Soul. I loved his Comedy, clean, now abuse, and the whole family could watch him without worrying about his suddenly getting inappropriate.
King James wrote a treatise against smoking in the 1600s. He saw it was bad from the start. He said the smoke was noxious and it was bad for the lungs.
Sorry to hear of his recent passing. He was so low-key, he tended to get overlooked when people would think or speak about great comedians, and yes, I've done this too, but his skits have been showing up in my UA-cam feed the past few days, so I took advantage of that to watch them, and have enjoyed all of them. I've also been saving them in my humor file. When I need a quick mood boost, I replay videos in the humor file. I also have a funny animal videos folder. Bob Newhart's low-key demeanor helped with his routines. His humor was also clean. I don't find filthy comedy to be funny. Bob Newhart was very funny. He will be missed. RIP Bob Newhart! And thanks to those who are posting his skits!
He could have added, "And after you set fire to this stick of leaves in your mouth, you suck the smoke down your lungs and hack and cough for a while?.......Is that for those who never got into sneezing the snuff out their noses?"
Newhart does almost that in another similar routine where "Walter Raleigh" is trying to convince the queen to invest in tobacco. In one exchange she asks him: "Isn't that like standing to close to a fireplace?"
💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫Ellen DeGeneres had done a comic piece like this.. a segment kind of like this and even had the same Persona as Bob Newhart..the way he talks to a make believe person.💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫
Bob Newhart says, "Thank you, Dean." Maybe you'll need to listen with headphones or ear buds, and it's not really that big of a deal anyway, but he does say Dean. :)
Probably funny to Americans who seem to like mocking British history, but the information used to make this joke is so stupidly incorrect it prevents it being funny. Shame, because I do like Bob Newhart and have always been a fan of Dean.
Bob Newhart. Master of the one-sided phone conversation. Absolutely hilarious, every single time! :-)
genius.
Goodnight!

This has long been my favorite of his monologues. I always lose it when he gets to, “You _set fire_ to it, Walt!” 😂
Fabulous routine. Bob Newhart was original and brilliant.
One of the funniest tape ever....i listen to this every few years and it's still funny....

This launched when I was a kid and helped me decided to never smoke. He made it seem ridiculous--which it is. Now I'm 69--with great lungs.
Dude. Awesome. 💪💪💪💪 hello from san jose California
Great for you, Sir.
Cool.
I thought I was the only one that chose to never smoke from hearing this...
Dean Martin was a talent machine. When I was a kid and listened to him he always sounded a bit drunk. Now 40 years later he still does.Great show Mr. Martin.
Dean did a drunk act. The beverage you saw on tv was usually apple juice.
Drunk was Dean Martin’s skit…like the phone was Bob Newhart’s skit.

As an ex-smoker I really appreciate this one.
Probably one of the funniest early stand-up sketches of all time…….I first heard this way back as a kid in the mid 60’s and it’s still fresh today 🤗🤗🤗
timeless humour, still as funny today as it was when it came out
Great routine! Priceless. So creative
he is the best. i love imaginative (and imaginary) comedy

RIP Bob Newhart the classic and true gentleman of the comedy world, sadly missed and i am sure God himself will be laughing with him now

one of my all time favourite comics
April 2020
Newhart binge watching
During COVID 19 stay at home order.
Great stuff!
A classic!
Check out his Driving Instructor routine. The guy is a genius
My personal favourite of all Bob Newhart's monologues.
Master of the subtle stutter.
The Best!!
I think it his voice that makes such a talent actor.
What an absolute genius. Still so funny today as it was then. 😊
This guy was sooo funny !
King James wrote a treatise against smoking in the 1600s. He saw it was bad from the start. He said the smoke was noxious and it was bad for the lungs.
Who knew, right?!
Smoking was about the only vice he didn't have
A marvellous translation of the Bible as well.
@@Alan-ss3xp Yes.
Too bad few people heeded the warning for so long. My mother smoked for over 50 years and got about every health issue from it except cancer.
Classic comedy sketch. Brilliant.

This is class entertainment.
what a great laugh he had :) ☕️🌷🌱
Tobacco also has medicinal uses. Doctors would fill a bellows up with tobacco smoke and then blow to smoke up and into a patient’s posterior.
I always wondered how the phrase, Blow it out your ass came to be.
This performance was said to be the first use of a wireless phone. True story ... ha.
Rip bob and dean ❤

Dean Martin did drink, just not always as much as it may have seemed to be. Oh, and Bob Newhart is hilarious.
Tim Morris His history’s a bit of though!
"Sir Walter Raleigh was a gentleman"
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT I HAVE ALWAYS SAID IF GOD WANTED US TO SMOKE HE WOULD HAVE MADE US WITH A CHIMNEY ON OUR HEAD 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🏻💯😎
If a "God" wanted us to inhale Marijuana, we would have THC Receptors, in our Brain(s)
Or a tail pipe out our well tail is a really big hint
Comedy - back when it was FUNNY ...and still is. Please bring back comedy.... please.
This is my brother Darell and this is my other brother Darell. 💔
Great comedic talent😂Today is 1 month since this dear man has passed. He's probably making 'em laugh in Heaven😢
And with all his friends and his wife that passed before him
Great bit till i read the comment section. Omg go live on an island by yourself and leave us to enjoy ourselves.

I dont know why people smoke. Most useless thing to do. Im glad i didn't get hooked as a kid.
Same reason they take drugs and get tattoos today - to be like "everyone else" while claiming it is their Individual choice.
Excellent comedy. Now we just get fed crap from the Agenda Seekers.

Rare clip of Dean Martin absolutely hammered in the beginning 0:00
normalize slurring all your words and clapping for no reason on TV
he even looks at his hands in disbelief "why am I doing this?"
Here in England we do not call it fall, we call it autumn
We used to call it Fall over here too. Then we changed it to autumn. That’s the U.K. for ya!
Good for you????
*"I called it
...Oh Shit Winters Comming!!!!*

When i eat rancid Clam Chowder, i say "Au Tumny Ache", then, i fall down.
I have NO idea how Dean Martin ever became popular.
Dean Martin became popular because he was very talented. Great singer, great actor, and very funny comedian.
Dean half snazzeled as usual.
Wait, Bob Newhart was actually young once?
Why did he say "Thank you David" to Dean Martin?
Buurga Topek probably because he was pickled
Bob Newhart says, "Thank you, Dean." Maybe you'll need to listen with headphones or ear buds, and it's not really that big of a deal anyway, but he does say Dean. :)
He doesn't he said Dean.
I thought he said David.
Is Dino slightly drunk … ?
Always was so they tell me ...
He was always drunk :)
Sittin here watching this routine smoking a cigarette. How ironic.
.
Coffee was from Africa not the Americas just to be pedantic.
In the 16th and early 17th centuries they didn't have telephones, just to be pedantic

I don't see mocking Britain but mocking how willingly people do crazy things just to get a high.
What was your first clue? The phone? Oh ...you don't have one
