    About 35 years ago, I worked in a University town (Western University - London, Ontario, Canada) and Bob Newhart performed at the University.
    It was the greatest stand-up I had ever seen or will ever see. Newhart will always be the master of deadpan - the art of deriving humour through humourlessness. Yes, Leslie Nielsen was also a master in his own right, but he derived his humour through the absurd, Newhart pulled it from nothing. His greatest comedic achievement...making his entire 1992 series a dream he was having in his 1972 series.

  • @Comicsluvr
    @Comicsluvr 2 місяці тому +71

    Newhart was in a war movie with James Coburn, Steve McQueen, and a bunch of other stars. He had been transferred in as a replacement...from supply. The troops found a German mic in their outpost and told Newhart to make it sound like he was talking on the phone. He was supposed to make it sound like the outpost was swimming in G.I.s and they had no room for more. Essentially, they had him doing a skit on the phone!

One instance where he calls to someone unseen in the room, Newhart tells him to “Pick up the Phone, It’s Nutty Noah! Was this to placate the religious sensitivities? Still brought a titter with my reminiscing.

      But imagine the chutzpah of Christian missionaries in the colonial days! They travel to some far flung south sea island, and try to convince the natives that they need to start believing in a god they've never heard of, or forever suffer in a Hell they've never heard of. "All your historic heathen traditions are wrong and heathenous, so I'm going to explain to you godless heathens how to do things properly."

You would have thought Jesus would have said, ‘ Listen up if you don’t follow me and accept me as your personal savior, you are going to burn in Hell for all eternity’. I would think that would be the most important part of the message. Hold on Jesus and let me get something to write this down not 40 years later with Mark and just forgetting that bit 🙄

    As the skit is playing, I am listening to rain outside. The great flood really happen. The whole of the Bible is divinely inspired. there are other writings that depict a great flood, as well. God gives us the rainbow as a promise that the Earth will not be fully destroyed with flood waters, ever again. God knows our hearts, and when he returns, he will be taking those who truly love him to heaven before he pours his wrath down upon the Earth, in the great tribulation, however. May you recognize yourself as a sinner in need of the one and only Savior, Jesus Christ. Confess him to be your Lord and Savior and turn from your sins. He is just to forgive you of your sins. God bless you.
