Fun fact, the lake you drove past at 1:58 is called Lake George and is typically almost empty (you wouldn't have seen water from the road at all, even though it's so massive!), but due to large amounts of rain in recent years it has filled up again. It's normally sheep paddocks!
@@abbie1071 Due to a drought in 2002 it dried out and stayed that way for 14 years. The "typically" is in the human timescale and not the geological time scale. I also don't know what you mean by inland tidal lake? An endorheic lake?
It never used to be empty, when I was a kid it was fabled to be fed by a natural spring and we were always told it would never be empty. It was a water skiing haven for years. Then the droughts killed it. I was so excited when I finally saw water in it again.
@@abbie1071 I was wondering as a Dutchman, why haven't the Australians decided to dam Lake George and use it for irrigation with crops or as an abundant water source during periods of drought?

Glad that you said we don't take things too seriously here, that's spot on :) In regard to "Big Things" as you drove along the coast, you missed the Big Koala between Adelaide and Melbourne. The Southern Highlands are stunning this time of year. Funny that you should call it Jurassic, because in 1994 they discovered a tree in a still secret location, somewhere in NSW, (Wollemi Pine) that was nick-named the "Jurassic Tree" because they thought it was a direct holdover from the Jurassic period.
Yup. Wollemi Pine was thought to have been extinct for more than 2 million years or so. And having lived during the Dinosaur period. Until, in 1994 that park rangers in the Blue Mountains discovered this rare group of trees standing next to each other in this isolated grove and couldn't place it what they were looking at. Finally, after all the Botanic Gardens and floristic research institutes in the world did their research, did the Wollemi Pine come out as what people have called: "the find of the century". Not to forget, it's been said that Steven Spielberg drew inspiration from his visits to Australia for making the setting of Jurassic Park the way it was. Likewise, James Cameron has said that his visit to the Daintree Rainforest inspired Pandora in his Avatar movie franchise.
The Big Merino made it, as Australias only representative, in a video I recently watched about the world biggest statues (without their bases). Tias laughter about the big poop, oops potato, was really infectious. Thanks for that 😂

I was wondering about your route from Canberra when you started the "big thing" conversation. The first thing that came to mind was the "Big Turd" in Robertson, then here you are!
Great to see you both laughing and enjoying your time here. In Sydney grab some Laksa from Malay Chinese noodle Bar, they have been operating for over 35 years. There is the Coogee to Bondi walk that you can extend further to Watson's Bay. Have fun! 😊
"Malaysian" food is Sumatran food. There is nothing original about the derivative fugitives of Ma-lame-sia. Even Malay is an Indonesian gazetted ethnic group and language (textbooks are printed for it by Indonesian Dept Education (all local languages are mandatory for that language's area primary school curriculuum so the 300+ languages remain alive)) Indonesian- a kingdom called Melayu 20km from modern Jambi. Sumatra has millions more real Malays than Malaysia (12-14million- the 50% remainder are Chinese and Tamils). Malaysia was the opposite ports for the two Strait of Malacca kingdoms (based in Sumatra) of Deli and Riau-Johor (Johor was ceded to the British, Netherlands Indies got Batam and surrounding islands). The Malaysian sultans were fugitive traitor bastards of concubines from Javanese kings, as was Singapura alias Temasek. Notice modern Singapore has zero archaeological parks of the ruined palaces and fortifications the British originally surveyed. Lee Kwan Yew had it all ripped up so his narrative of Chinese supremacy would not be challenged by obviously ancient Indonesian brickwork and stonework (look up Trowulan)- thats the remnants of part of the massive medieval city bigger than Angkor, that was capital of pre colonial Java Kingdom (larger than modern Indonesia it bordered Siam and Kampuchea (Cambodia)). Balinese nobility are Javanese- their Hindu iconography is identical to all the candi (temples) ruins in Java, especially Borobudur and Prambenan and the always been Hindu never harassed Tengger people's Pura Luhur temple on Mt Bromo. There is 4000 years of history north if Australia, even your Aborigines know this, they travelled through.
I’m just meeting you two for the first time. I glad you’re enjoying my adopted homeland ( I came to Sydney from New Zealand in 1981) and I’m thrilled that you’ve grasped the idea that we don’t take ourselves too seriously.
Lovely country you passed through. There used to be a great mountain bike trail that started in Fitzroy Falls, went down the Western side, dropped into the valley and finished in Kangaroo Valley township. Not sure if it's still open but worthy. Apart from the big t__d, Robertson is a beautiful little town. Great vid and infectious enthusiasm! Cheers from Sydney - Dave

Hahaha, The Diplomat, that's an old Hotel, glad they put on good food, so they should. The Big Ram, you missed the best photo opportunity, should have gone around the back of him, he's intact, lol. Great footage of the Falls. Dolmades are my hubbys and my favs, goes great with a bottle of sav blac or a merlot. can also buy the tins in Woolies. Only about 30 years ago there was the Big Pavlova in Murulan near Goulburn, but it's not there any longer, I think. Oh the big spud, right...... The Southern Highlands is very pretty and down to the Illawara. Nic footage, glad you're having fun.
You’re both fabulously entertaining! Thank you for all the info and many laughs!!! We’re traveling soon to Sydney then to Whitsunday from home in the PA Poconos.
Love this. Just discovered you guys and I think you are now my favourite reviewers of all things Aussie. I though only fellow Aussies could love our BIG THINGS!
You guys are great. I love your infectious enthusiasm. I live in Canberra (although I'm not a native) and I completely lost it at both of your reactions to the Big Potato. It is ludicrous isn't it. But absolutely hilarious at the same time. "Are there fries?"...Very funny. Don't forget the Giant Prawn in Ballina.
Hi guys, I live in Melbourne (northeatsern suburbs, near the Yarra Valley) and I have friends who live near Robertson. I have ridden my motorcycyle all through that area and the scenery is amazing. Been to the Big Ram many times and the falls you visited once. There’s an incredibly beautiful valley that you would have driven past, called Kangaroo Valley, it’s completely asurrounded by mountains, but it’s one of the most stunning places up that way. The winding road you went down is one I’ve ridden a number of times and the corners are the best part (for a Bike anyway). You mentined snow in the Australian Alps and I learned a few years ago that apparently more snow falls there every year than on the European Alps, which is kinda mind blowin’ to me. I grew up in New Zealand and travelled the whole country from top to bottom, side to side, back in the late 70’s by motorbike, so I’ve been blessed to be able to see some stunning scenery. I have to say that whilst NZ is spectacular, the sceneary in Australia is also pretty awesome. The differences are hard to define, but both countries are simple stunning place to live in and travel through. I love the Victorian high country and the NSW high country that borders it is easily just as beautiful. We are so lucky to have so much beauty around us. Cities are okay, but give me the country every day. Love your obvious enjoyment of Australia in your videos! Kudos especially for your attending the Melbourne ANZAC Day dawn service too!
Your videos are awesome. They make me fall in love with my country all over again. Well done. You seriously need to visit Tasmania ( Tassie as we Aussie’s call it) . Im a Melbourne boy but I went to Tassie a month back and it’s absolutely beautiful.
when you get to newcastle nsw head north turn onto the bucketts way to gloucester go up thunderbolts highway (stop at thunderbolts lookout) to walcha and turn onto the oxley highway and you'll find apsley falls and tia falls keep heading towards the coast stop at gingers cafe for a burger then keep going and turn off to ellenborough falls the largest waterfall in new south wales.
I know someone who wrote a university (college) thesis on Australia's big things - she even did a road trip with her future in-laws to see a bunch of them 🤣
Lake George at 1:57 has been empty for years! only very recently maybe in the past year has it had any water, Im 30 and never remember seeing water in it
I have to say it's pretty surreal seeing you guys on the Sea Cliff Bridge!!! It's right near where I grew up!!! That mountain road you drove called Macquarie Pass is one of the worst roads in the area, well done!
Just love those smiles! And if you get to Victoria, there's a place between Stawell and Horsham called Dadswells bridge there's the big Koala. Very aussie .
Referring to nsw as jurrasic is apt - don’t forget, in a small grove in a hidden location near the blue mountains, the Wollemi pine was recently discovered: read about it!
Tia, you have embraced Australia's cheesey love of "big" things and we in turn embrace you! I grew up in Wollongong (which is where you kind of passed through when you stopped at Sea Cliff Brige) and no visit to Canberra or the Southern Highlands would be complete without stopping at or deliberately passing the Big Merino. If you'd passed by Lake Eucumbene and Adaminaby on the Snowy Mountains Highway, you might have seen The Big Trout! When I saw the title of the video, I genuinely expected to see footage of you two freaking out at a Huntsman spider dropping into your lap from under the visor in the car.
also was on that Cliff Bridge in Wollongong yesterday! Day trip from Canberra to Sydney to Wollongong to Kiama to Berry to Kangaroo Valley via Bowral, Mittagong, Picton back to Sydney then home in Canberra! long weekend day trip...
"The big merino" - great! You should come over to New Zealand to see what we've got here! The "big carrot" in Ohakune - I kid you not! The "big L&P bottle" in Paeroa - "L&P" is "Lemon and Paeroa", a soft-drink ("soda") originally from Paeroa. Lots of other stuff too.......... :)
So I saw you go down the pass from Robertson which means you went through my home town to get on the road to Sydney! I was happy to see Tia didn't skimp on the big potato too!
Canberra has a lot of hotels that cater to the FIFO workers from Parliament House. When Parliament is sitting, most hotels are fully booked and what are available are very expensive. When Parliament is not sitting, they have a lot of vacancies, and are discounted accordingly. So when you want to visit Canberra, check if parliament is sitting first. And the Seacliff Bridge (15:15) was built after the old road, that was cut into the cliffs next to it, was closed. It is a loverly viewing platform to see whales on their annual migration.
I did a painting of a Dingo for a couple who live near Fitzroy Falls.. they actually breed Dingoes (Australian Wild Dogs) on their property. I checked out the falls when I delivered the painting. Awesome place.

Tia is pretty much the best and most joyous thing on the internet. Thanks for all your great videos!
Hooray 👏 you went to the Big Merino…….. I didn’t know you could go up in it? 😃 the big potato is near to where I currently live, but I’m in the process of moving to Ballina where the Big prawn 🦐 is And it has a new paint job ready for you to see 👍 safe travels 💜
Good on you two, you’re seeing our country the right way.
Loved Tia’s reaction at Big things!
…actually, both of your reactions are spot on. 😄
You guys are the funniest tourists in Australia! 😃👍👍👍
I know someone who wrote a university (college) thesis on Australia's big things - she even did a road trip with her future in-laws to see a bunch of them 🤣
C'mon Chevyo!!! That "big Marino" was awesome!! I would love to have seen that. LOL Love watching you guys. Keep up the great work.
So lovely and funny too. I found you from the Canberra video. I love how you captured the misty mountains. Cheers from Australia ❤
Best video so far. I was in stitches. More "big things" please!
Very proud Aussie to see your experience and show casing Australia through your eyes. Love you work!
Cheveyo embrace the ‘big’ things as they are a part of Australia! We love them. lol. Love your sense of fun guys! ❤
Love Tia's energy ❤ thank you , Canberra has a lot hidden gems.
Just love those smiles! And if you get to Victoria, there's a place between Stawell and Horsham called Dadswells bridge there's the big Koala. Very aussie .
You guys make me literally Laugh Out Loud. The Big Potato was freaking HILARIOUS!😄
Love Tia’s excitement for the Big Things
Dolmades are awesome!!! 😋
Tia has an amazing sense of humour, I think you should do all the 'Big Things'!
Cheers and thanks!
Dang you guys are the best! Loved this episode and I now appoint you as 'honorary Australians'!
Just discovered you on UA-cam, watched your Canberra to Sydney leg, thoroughly enjoyed your perspective. Subscribed immediately, ready for more.
Definitely the funniest episode yet. 😂 The big turd just cracked me up 🤣
You've done a awesome job of showing Australia. Very well put together.
Lake George with water in it - well done!
Also FYI, the Big Merino used to be further down the road - it was moved.
Yay! Wollongong represent. I live right by the sea Cliff bridge. So glad you made it to our pretty part of the world. Shame it was rainy.
You both have a brilliant sense of humour. Your right we dont take ourselves seriously.
OMG that was hilarious! I feel like you guys are becoming more Australian as time goes on, hahahaha - love it
It really cracked me up😂
So I saw you go down the pass from Robertson which means you went through my home town to get on the road to Sydney! I was happy to see Tia didn't skimp on the big potato too!
Love the video. Love the sense of humour. Enjoy Sydney.
This was Awesome!!! I loved the excitement for a Potato. Cheveyo for scale. ❤
Welcome to Sydney!!! Just love Tia’s enthusiasm to collect all the “Biggest things” in Australia and both of your dedication to show more authentic part of Australia and humours than just the usual hot tourist spots 🥰❤❤
The Big Potato was closed off as it used to be used by local lovers as somewhere they could go for some hanky panky. The pie shop just outside of Robertson is a favourite venue for motorcycle riders to stop for a warm meal & coffee.
Your unbridled laughter at the big potato would be exactly how I react to seeing that! The fact that it won the Worst title makes sense! I have sat and laughed at so many of our “big things”….pretty much all of them tbh
