Pass thru shots increase lethality, improves blood trail with two holes, and many times, you get an "arrow refund" out of the deal. Perfect example of the unpredictability of when and how much an animal can move during and after the shot. It did not appear he was reacting much to the bow going off. He just simply moved during the execution of the shot.

Good. Now go from a 150 insert to a 100 and bump up the broadhead to 200. So much better quality in 200 plus broad heads.

    Things you will never control.
    Blood trail.
    Movement.
    Wind.
    Unforeseen obstacles.
What you can control is everything before the shot and you can do one other thing you can make it so on impact the arrow or bolt will exit lower than where it entered increasing a chance of a better blood trail. Please note the chance factor. But that was a hell of a shot and very well done guys.

@@traviswarren394 If you have underspined or untuned arrow systems. Who knows.
I advocate for proper spine to fly 200 grains and bare shaft / nock tuned arrows.
Little known fact (the industry hides this)
Accurate broadhead flight is an accurate arrow launch and offsetting the lift of the broadhead with the arrow system.
If you do have an arrow tuned for 200 grain broadheads. You bet they'll fly.

Nice! I’m still playing around with twizzlers, but found out that my particular 340 spined twizzler on my particular bow at my particular draw weight does well with 225 grains up front (bare shaft)… just that extra hundred grains made a huge difference in penetration, with waaaay less shaft wobble at impact. Keep testing, keep making videos… keep helping people become more lethal in the woods. Have a great day!

Really thinking about swit hing from 250 grain abowyer brown bears and 13 grain GT inserts to the 200 grain RF broadhead and 50 grain inserts next year, my thepry is that the 200 grainers should just be more durable, and there for i can practice with them more. The abowyers are great, let me put a 520 grain arrow clean through a mule deer doe with a 43lb(at my draw) recurve. But, the tips bend, ALOT, even with practice, after it went through the doe it may have just hit a rock as it exited but the tip was curled super bad. Not fixable. I think the 250 grainers also require less material to be removed with each sharpening since the cutting edge is smaller. In addition, that slightly more abrupt angle, while im sure it hurts penetration a tiny amount, makes it a more durable head going through bone AND helps it cut more on its way through😊

Blood trails can be very unpredictable and the more animals you shoot, the more you understand how unpredictable they can be.
Even if you might not always a great blood trail when using a sharp cut on contact broadhead, you will still usually get a short blood trail when using such a broadhead and a heavy arrow that makes your bow silent.
And that makes it to still be rather easy to find, instead of when you have an animal running far away in a high speed before it drops.
The animal doesn't panic as it often does when hit with a mech or a dull fixed of hear the sharp sound from the bow when using a light arrow.
I have shot many animals with mechs over the years, but I have totally stopped using mechs on deer sized animals and larger.
When using very sharp cut on contact broadheads and heavy arrows, I often experience that the animal just react and run for a few yards and then just stand there for a few seconds before it wobbles and drops.
Or it walks away cautious, having no clue it is dead on it's feet, till it drops in a few seconds.

Quick question..instead of putting alot of weight in the incerts, wouldn't it be better to put in a better quality broadheads. Meaning solid steel, I have seen alot guys use 100gr or 150gr inserts and 100gr broadheads. I personally changed after seeing some of your testing. I went to a 75gr inserts and 150gr Oz cuts, but thinking about 200gr. Right now my arrows are sitting at 521gr.

Now that's a HOLE ! From the blood trail, it looked like a heart shot, spraying all the way. Only think i'm cautious of on injured pigs is when they have that infection grey meat. I'm not brave enough to eat it. Happens to boar hogs alot from fighting. Infections like crazy.
I have always contended blood is a liquid affected by gravity. The lower the exit, the better your chance for blood to seek thru the hole. If the cavity is lower than your exit, guess what gravity does ? It flows the blood to the lowest place, which might not be your exit or entrance but the chest cavity.
Every recovered animal you find with a poor blood trail, open up the cavity and see how much blood is swooshing around. It's truth. this was a great hole done by the broadhead. But also snuck that head right into the spot where the leg in normal conditions would be, but because it was eating corn and moving, that leg exposed the target uninhibited. Perfect.
