- Have coalition politics and governments been a GOOD, BAD or UGLY development since the last local governemnt elections?
The once beautiful seaside tourist mecca of Knysna has been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons, as the town has deteriorated and service delivery all but collapsed.
The new coalition of the ANC, Patriotic Alliance & EFF are accused of mismanaging the town.
The question is; is this coalition mess the future of Western Cape and South African politics?
What do residents of Knysna think of coalitions?

Anc and eff should go
Nearly everybody we spoke to agreed.
AND THE PA
@@BigDaddyLiberty happy there is some consensus. The election result will be interesting.
Coalition to get rid of the anc is good. BUT know your partners and stay clear of the anc and eff.
@@lynpetzer2746 I am voting PA, we had enough of DA neglect.
Successful towns attracts job seekers. Job seekers create informal settlements. Job seeker numbers increase & informal settlements grow. Job seekers eventually reach significant numbers & come municipal elections, vote for the same political parties that destroyed the towns that they originally came from. So, yet again, a once successful municipality, overseeing a town with great prospects, is flushed down the toilet. Unfortunately, there’s no good reason to believe that this will not be the eventual outcome of every successful municipality in SA. Stats SA recently reported an increase in the unemployment rate. It seems there’s no end in sight for the job seeking tsunami & the destruction that follows it.
This is great comment. Especially when they vote the party that they ran away from
And all th😢toilets end up in the world class wild life estuary. Wonderful
YOUR COMMENT SHOULD READ DA GOVERNS FOR WHITES NEGLECTS NON WHITE AREAS AND THE OUTCOME IS NON WHITES VOTE FOR OTHER PARTIES. THE BLAME LIES AT DA'S DOORS.
Voter education needed?
Will voter education work help? People are like lemmings will follow their leaders over the cliff. They want instant solutions & don't get having to sacrifice & hard work. And you can clean your own yard & neighborhood. And if you have no toilets be like a cat & make a hole & bury it. Don't do it above ground & leave it or throw it in your drinking water. Starts with the small things. No matter what they tell you. It makes a difference.!
Says it all, be careful of voting for PA in Western Cape
The PA is not an alternative to the ANC. They would happily maintain the status quo if they gained political influence in the process. We've seen this play out already, so don't think it wouldn't happen at a national level. The PA are self-serving sellouts.

McKenzie is skelm
Oh I'll be voting for PA here in Delft
The PA have sided with the ANC on all three occasions. The people of Knysna voted PA to get rid of the corrupt ANC. But voting for the PA, they got the ANC again. If you don't understand how this work, then you deserve to be ruled by the ANC.
I lived in Knysna in 1997 one of the most beautiful places in SA ,,, its sad to see what it has become after the anc eff an pa took over😮
What was it like before the ANC/PA in your view? Let's say in the 3-5 years before the ANC/PA coalition
Destroying Tourism...😢
The people who ran away from ANC led provinces. Are the ones who voted ANC and PA
Typical!!
same can be said for the Cape flats, got worse under a DA government.
WCape take note! This can be you by thursday
FOR THE POOR IN THE WCAPE ITS ALREADY LIKE THIS UNDER A NEGLECTFUL DA. THE DA NEEDS TO BE PUNISHED!!
The same coalition is in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). They are absolutely disgraceful, everything is falling apart. Never seen our city in such a state. EFF & PA = ANC
A vote for PA is a vote for the wind and the ANC
Same as DA. A vote for the DA is a vote for the ANC.
A vote for the DA is a vote for the ANC
The PA is the ANC's middleman. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME, OTHERWISE EXPECT THE SAME ROT.
We have rot under the DA, I won't waste my time voting again for the DA rot.
Good interviews Big Daddy!!
Thank you so much
It determines who are in the coalition, CAPE TOWN coalition under Helen was successful.
The coalitions of the ANC, EFF and PA have been an absolute disaster, everywhere they govern has been dismal.
PEOPLE VOTE WISELY. DO NOT complain afterwards if you vote foolishly.
IF you want change vote for change.
WHAT YOU SOW YOU WILL REAP!
Right now there's new kid (MK) in the block.
SUCESSFUL FOR WHO. DA RUNS A TALE OF TWO CITIES AND WE WILL NOT BE USED BY THEM.
@@Tinker8531 You really should travel to the other areas in South Africa. In Ekurhuleni where the ANC, EFF AND PA govern.
That municipality is effectively so badly run down. The worst part of the Cape Town is better then the best part of Ekurhuleni.
Let that sink in.
@shanaazcloete8531 If you want more from the DA, then we need a blue national government. There is no quick fix for any city in SA, there is no money.
A vote for the PA is a vote for the ANC .....
The DA governs poor areas as badly as the ANC, so not sure what your point is. DA/ANC both provide bad service delivery to Coloureds and Blacks.
@@Tinker8531not true. The DA is statistically MUCH better and they are held back by punitive budget allowances on a national level.
Wow, the first interviewee is very well informed!
Even the street views were balanced
It depends on who the coalition parties are !!! Get rid of the ANC and the EFF … Don’t generalise !!!
Same in Beaufort West and everywhere else the PA is in government.
PA is not in government in the Cape Flats. The shoddy bad service delivery in the Cape Flats is thanks to the DA.
Enjoy your visit Big!
I agree and disagree regarding coalitions. Knysna has certainly gotten the raw deal thanks to trashy parties in a coalition but it must be remembered that the DA are in a coalition with the VF+ in 7 municipalities in the Western Cape and nobody ever hears about it. Why? Because they are more successful than a party running a municipality standalone.
My ideal scenario for the Western Cape is the DA get between 46-48% and the VF+ can fill the gap. I believe it will lead to even BETTER governance and perhaps as this guy said that the "perks" of being close to Cape Town.... the VF+ may push for it to be pushed to all parts of the province......
The DA will get the Majority vote in the Western Cape Gayton talks utter rubbish
We all know what happens with an ANC PA and EFF coalition Governs a ward disastrous Knysna bankrupt
The circuses are getting out of hand
Good to see Big Daddy in Knysna. Coalisions of like minded smaller parties makes sense but it certainly isnt fair for larger parties to join and just bulldoze over the will of the majority
Anc eff and pa in the same boat??!!!!
Perfect interviewer ⭐️⭐️
He gave a great analysis.
One of our biggest challenges is the storg belief that you can only be represented by someone from your community that understands the challenges of your community. This is exactly what the ANC leaders said 30 years ago. To take care of people's needs you need good governance and leaders that are not political appointments. City council members there to perform a job and not pursue a political agenda. PA = ANC
The biggest mistake is voting over and over again for a party that treats its poor citizens with absolute contempt, show their ugly faces in your area around election time to get your votes, so they can continue to govern for one section of the Western Cape and treat the rest as if they not human. I am voting for my people, I will not be manipulated by Swart Gevaar nonsense any longer.
Sedgefield is forgotten in these conversations, our rates go to Knysna. Sedgefield should be independant, it has grown significantly and is neglected. It used to be independant, let us take our town back.
100% asap ,a no party management team would be best.
AGREE 100%
I am not sure how the ANC/EFF coalition came into being without the voters? Could someone explain this?
DA lost votes to other parties because the poor was fed up with poor service delivery.
@@Tinker8531 they were manupilated with promises and perhaps KFC and and and...
As a knysna resident, I can confirm that if it wasn't for private efforts by private citizens we would have much worse problems. Residents fix potholes, maintain public toilets at public beaches, plant flowers and bushes, clean up... etc!
We can't wait to vote the ANC out in next local elections, by a landslide. Election turnout will be huge. We all learned our lessons about not voting last time.
Yes my question also is how can they have a vote of no confidence without such a vote going to a by-election...it is us the people who should be given a chance to make the decision as to who sits on the council...
Anything can be better than the ANC ruling the country.
People shouldn't look at a ANC , EFF and PA coalition and then hate coalitions.
Coalitions can be bad, but they can be good as well.
City of Johannesburg is a great example of how the PA sold us out to the ANC and we now sit with a very similar situation to Knysna.
We should all be hopeful of a coalition that contains parties that put the needs of the people above party wants.
The Multi Party Charter has a good chance of taking us in a better direction. If not, it should at least take us in a direction thats better than what the ANC, EFF or PA can provide.
Not true about smaller towns. Very well run. George Paarl. Worcester Caledon Mossellbay etc etc.
What do you expect look whose in control
Nothing can improve in SA for anyone until there is an end to the Eskom problem and the economy is grown then employment will follow for all.
Only a couple of days left till the election…let’s see if the power stays on afterwards.
The orcs are killing knysna
That's what the coalition means to them, leave the area, but take the money!!
Min 1:53 someone shouting for help in the truck?
Is it a coalitions problem, or is it a Self Serving Politicians problem?
Coalitions work pretty well in Switzerland and Germany, so there are examples of effective coalition government to be found in this world.
What I've heard about our coalitions is that there's a tendency for the politicians to prioritize the "Who Gets What" aspect, over the "Who's going to DO what". Agreements are made, and then some parties break them to try to gain some advantage, so the promises a coalition is founded on are often not worth the declarations of honesty that they were made with.
For too many South African entrepeneur politicians, politics is a game to play for maximum personal gain, to too great an extent. (I suspect that the personal gain aspect is a part of politics everywhere, but here there are less limitations according to e.g. morality and concern for the voters.)
Not me watching from Knysna 😅
Hope you enjoyed the show.
Let me know what you think about the coalition there, and does it influence your opinion about possible national coalition?
@BigDaddyLiberty dude, my time here has given me enough ground to send a Human Rights violations investigation request to the UN.
Knysna District already has an active matter with the SAHRC... but as we know...if you want something done right... you have to do it yourself.
Would be nice if you checked in on my journey.
No coalitions.

They fight amongst themselves …….they don’t give a crap about their own people ….thats reality …sad sad sad
Imagine having a whatsapp group with over 2500 people 😅😅😅😂😂😂 crisis
One thing people and you fail to understand is that a town can't collapse its up to the people.
Maybe Coloured folk should also take responsibility for their sons and gangs and girls getting pregnant at such a young age
Come to Capeflats also under 18YRS OF DA RULE pls..its 10times worse
At least the whole of the WC didn't choose gangsters as their heroes and then blame government.
Tge ANC joked about the missi g front teeth of the Cape people and now they stand with Palestine instead of South Africans that are suffering everywhere
I can't come to the cape flats, I would leave naked if at all. Saps is responsible for crime issues there. That's not DA. Other than terrible crime, what municipal problems do people there struggle with?
@@antonvrb1510 I'm not talking about crime the bad conditions the coloured communities must live in under DA rule..10 times worse
