It’s great that AF is back, but the real story so far this season is Sarah Strong. Consistent and contributing points, inside offense, rebounding, defense and effective passing as a freshman, at UConn. Think about it, how many freshmen in UConn history have had this Strong (sorry..) of a start? Paige, Stewie, Lobo, and maybe 1 or 2 others. I don’t even remember DT playing like this as a freshman, again just amazing for SS to be contributing and at times leading on the floor as a true freshman. Geno seems to agree, he typically does not expect much from freshmen, even the HS player of the year types. Will be interesting to see how she reacts when she gets against stronger (can’t help it) competition like ND, SC etc..
The shots will start to fall soon enough. This whole team is new and learning their roles and each others roles but this team can definitely shoot the rock.

However, I’m really worried at how strikey Shade is. I’m truly worried abt her. I’m hoping and looking for a lot of great things from Azzi. The big 3 ARE scary. Azzi will start over Shade soon. Getting Jana to focus on doing what she does best when she is on the court is key. Ice is the starting 5 this year, thigh she is not the natural 5 that Jana (we know little about this version of Patterson who is clearly a real power 4). Once AG returns and gets her playing legs, then she will be a key part of the rotation as well, subbing for Strong and others due to her unmatched versatility, game impact, D and athleticism. W hats fun this year is we have at least 4 or 5 teams with very realistic national title hopes. Uconn certainly one of them but I think the days of prohibitive favorites is gone
I like the Bueckers, Fudd, Strong, Chen, and El Alfy lineup. In their toughest game so far, Geno played eight players (those 5 plus starters Brady and Shade, and KK). Q, Ziebell and Cheli didn't play. I'm really curious to see how Ayanna Patterson plays when she is healthy, which should be in the next game or two. She could really add some power on the boards. Once Aubry returns that will add even more firepower up front, which will be needed against some teams (UCLA, for example). I don't see much PT for those who did not get into the Ole Miss game, except for games with big U Conn leads (which will probably happen pretty often once Big East play gets under way).
I was never worried about Jana , as for Azzi very worried. One thing they have in common is that they don't have to work as hard knowing they have loads of help. The game they played against OLE MISS would have been perfect for players like Aubrey, Patterson, and Samuels because of their athletic abilities.
I don’t believe that Ole Miss game planned for Fudd. Their players were out of position a bunch of times that she touched the ball and there was no help defense at all. It was 1 game. Maybe not point guard, but she's a good ball handler and a monster on defense. She'll be coming off the bench even if not a starter. Needs to work on her distance shot in the off season. Morgan Cheli, I predict good things. Maybe not this year, but definitely going forward. She's Geno's kind of player; great defense, good passer, active on the boards-- she's always in the lane, somehow-- even if a merely superior shooter. Her time is coming, and she can help this year. Von Oelhoffen at USC, Hunter at TCU, Paurova at Kentucky, Beers at Oklahoma, Hansford at Iowa State, etc. ... The Bruins deserved the flowers. I think they had a good game plan, and executed it about as well as I could have hoped.
Nah, Azzi ain’t back. Everyone knows she can shoot and play well in a one off game. Let’s see her play well and stay healthy for at least ten games before we build her a statue, okay? 👍
She was "back" 2 games ago. No one needs your permission to State the obvious. I think what you want to say is you don't believe it even when you see it. You need to see it over and over 10 times before it's really true. Ask she did against Ole Miss was luck or a fluke. Is that right?
