I was thinking about adding Christmas Moss, but you really sold me on the Fontanus here. I had Java Moss in the past and it grew so thick and dense i had to thin it out all the time otherwise it would turn brown and unsightly underneath.
I once got some driftwood from a river that had no moss whatsoever on it when I got it, I dropped it into my high-tech an a week later noticed some Phoenix moss growing within a month it covered the entire peice, it was actually a stump about 12x18inches it was the most prolific moss I've ever had. It grew for about 18months an slowly died out, once it was disappearing I tried to save it but not matter what I did or where I positioned it it would not grow as if it had reached its life span, was the weirdest thing. I've since tried replicating this as this was atleast 10yrs ago to no avail. Sometimes it's just dumb luck.
Thanks for the info! Just got some fontanus. Had java moss in the past and I have to agree, that stuff just keeps growing forever + definitely requires some maintenance.
I had to chuckle at comparing phoenix moss to a peacock feather while knowing there's already another moss specifically named for exactly that, but it's true, the texture of this one of the 'featheriest'.
I would love to get either type of fissidens! I have some java moss, but it doesn't seem to like me very much. It is still alive... some of it anyway. Great information, thanks for sharing!
Hi Justin, what is ur take on seed shrimp? Cause I found some in my 5.5 planted tank. I ck water conditions 3-4 days, regular water changes like partial mid week & 50% every 2 weeks, gravel vac with changes, root tabs & liquid fertilizer, Fluval stratum & pebble gravel. Betta, nitrite snail, plants all doing great. What have I done wrong? I'm not happy abt these lil' invaders! How did they get in my small but beautiful aquarium? Looking for answers did some research, kinda still not satisfied. Can you help me out? V.
I have this moss on driftwood growing for about 3 months now and finding lots of long green strands of hair (algae?) coming off it. I have to pull out as much as possible after every weekly water change otherwise it will get out of control. Are you or anyone else out there with this moss finding the same issue? It’s a beautiful looking moss when it’s thick and full but some part of me regrets getting it now because of this issue.
I ordered some water lettuce Malaysian driftwood and java moss on May 8th it is now May 14th and on your website it said that it would arrive 1 to 3 business days it has been it has been 4 business days is there a reason why it's not here yet I'm just wondering
I got some nobilis and im having a hard time keeping algae off it. black beard algae might actually kill this hobby for me tbh. ive been fighting it for like a year now and i just cant win. no matter how much i play with light and nutrients and liquid carbon and PH.
@@green3975 yep. stuff has almost had me to the point of quitting the hobby a few times. id be here for an hour telling you everythything ive tried to get rid of it. ive done everything you can think of.
Would of liked to see some close up shots of it underwater but good info, I’ve made the mistake of using Java moss and now I’m always trying to remove it, any good tips for subwasssutang?
gbjanuary have you tried growing it coming out of the water or close to the top? It alway Seems to do better with more light, i had some nice driftwood covered in it, then I transferred the wood to my larger tank and the moss got all leggy and looked messy and detached from the wood... :(
This is so informative! Great job, fantastic reporting!🌻🌼🐝 Keep it up 🙌

If you want a low maintenance moss that is the most attractive... Riccardia chamedryfolia (technically a liverwort but to us it looks like moss)
It can help if you can add a shot of how they look inside water
