If the pump runs for an excessive amount of time with a particular function due to leaks (headrest, soft close,..etc, it automatically disables those functions to keep from burning the pump motor up. W220 owner here and I've had my share of experience with the pneumatic system. Also, for the power close trunk lid, there is a hydrolic fluid reservoir on the right side behind the carpeting where the battery is located. On the standard trim models, that only have soft close, it's controlled by the PSE pump but with the optional power close package, it's hydraulic and controlled by the pump by the battery
I have an 04 clk55amg. I had a lot of electronic gadget issues . I never would've had thought that the solution to all my problems was replacing the 14 year old Key FOB. It cost me $270 through my used car dealer connection with MB Dealership, but fixed pretty much everything. The transmitters in them do eventually weaken. Problems that I was having before was unlocking and locking the vehicle , including distance issues, summer opening feature , remote trunk release , and Keyless Go features. Everything works like a charm now. Worth it.
Recently followed your journey with this s600. I have the exact car in storage with 128,000 miles. Hydraulic line leak behind passenger front wheel. I'm definitely putting her back on the road soon now 👍
Just wanna say something ive been dealing with w220 for like years if you have any questions at all ask :) . And the soft close works when u reset (remove fuse ) untill it recieves the foult code and stops again that means low pressure . If thats the problem and it fixes itself after reset its a leak in the vacum not a pump . if a pump is bad its not gonna do any kind of pressure and the locking will be slow if it even locks with a bad pump :) good luck ! ive finished my project and love the car 2005 S500 !
I just sold a 2003 S-Class that had a central locking and soft close problem. I had to replace the PSE pump inside the left side of the trunk, both front door lock actuators and remove the trunk lock and seal the cracks with an epoxy. Bought the pump salvaged, but the best price for each of the front door actuators was about $475 each. Some bruised knuckles too, info on UA-cam to do the jobs. Good luck.
I'm enjoying the videos on this one , can't wait to see it finished . I bet that it's a fun car to drive. thank you again for the awesome videos. p.s. great deal on the price you paid for this one.
6:55 - shipping airbags is very regulated - they are classified as hazardous materials and should be identified as such by the shippers but if they did you definitely wouldn't get it for 40 bucks shipped.
Not your fault - most people don't know. It's a danger to all of those handling them during shipping, especially because they don't know whats inside. Same reason lithium batteries can't be shipped via airline anymore. There are special "explosion-proof" boxes for airbags - I did a little searching and it looks like these boxes cost around 5 bucks each, then the hazmat shipping that goes with and you can see why even those that do know don't comply with the rules.
for the trunk you should check if the license plate lights work. if they don't, check the wiring harness on the right side of the trunk.. likely a broken brown (ground) wire. very common on 220 and 211 chassis.
I asked my neighbor as he was in his garage tinkering and he says there is a yellow and red vacuum tube going to the latch in the trunk. Open trunk, push trunk open on key fob and see if you can hear pump run. He thinks it's on the left side on the S600. That pump also controls the soft close and he thinks the head rests. If the pump isn't running check fuses, connections.
Since it was raining here all day, I took my lap top over to his garage and let him watch the Mercedes videos. On your Mercedes you might have a hydraulic trunk. There is a pump with fluid by the battery ? Also, there are vacuum lines throughout the car. The vacuum box I posted about above controls door lock/unlock and possibly the rear seat head rests, but sometimes they have their own.
That car is made with high quality parts, so dont be afraid to dissassemble and check the mulfunctioning part if you can fix it. Most of the time disassembling cleaning and reassembling will solve the problem. The parts wont disintegrate in your hands like in the low budget cars.
I once had a partially working dome lamp. Turned out the solder had let go of the lamp lead but you'd never know it just looking at it. Also, a lot of electrical issues can be blamed on poor connections which can be fixed with simple cleaning or just disconnecting/reconnecting.
clean your entire interior with warm water and woolite..don't rinse and when it drys follow with a micro cloth with "bag balm" which you can find in cosmetics section at Walmart..let that sink in and buff off excess with a clean micro cloth..smells great and your leather will be soft and rich looking as new :-) your vinyl and plastic will look great too
I think it turned out really good for the price you got it for .. that been said i think the leak is from the coolant , check the container and the hoses and you might have a malfunction sensor there its pretty common with this generation .. i noticed the brakes they probably need some fencing to remove that rust .. And for the trunk opening its the pump next to the battery check that out .. I hope you get this beast up and running fine ASAP 👍🏻
On some MB models the rear headrest control is disabled when the rear window shade is raised. To prevent damage to the curtain/mechanism. Retracting the curtain will "fix" the problem. Not sure if this applies to the w220, I know it works like that on the w124.
The accumulators are broken. The membrane in the accumulators is a hole in it and fluid leaks intoit and down to the ground. Or there is a hose running beside the tunnel of were the gearbox is
The keyhole in the trunk has two positions one position you can use it from the switch and the key fob the other position you must use the key at all times
I have a 2006 E 55 AMG that has a massage seat issue. I bought it a few weeks ago and the massager/dynamic seats on both sides has never worked. I hear clicking but nothing happens. I saw something about checking the fuses in the trunk. I am a little unsure about how to start troubleshooting. I was looking at SL models with the ABC suspension and read about all the nightmares. I see quite a few that have lost their suspension. It looks like yours is good that is very nice. The other nightmare with Mercedes is the SBC braking system. It looks like you don’t have a problem there either that’s great.
Soft close is in conjunction with the vacuum system. Has a leak somewhere. Soft close will work off and on due to the how much air the car sucks up when you shut the car off.
It’s a hydraulic pump that works the trunk but the pneumatic system has to unlock the trunk before it will engage the hydraulic pump to lift the trunk lid there are many articles online regarding the PSP pump
Go under rear passengers seat in footwell pop out the light thats located there and there is fuse panel pull the 20 fuse and put it back then check all soft close and head rests That hydro pump in the trunk is for the trunk when you close it with the red button on the trunk deck fill it up with hydraulic fluid from mercedes and it may work
The air pump has multiple lines coming out of it. I think one is for the trunk. Check that there is vacuum on the trunk line. Or the pump unit can be bad. Actually air pressure on the trunk line will pop the trunk. I remember that from when my pump failed and I had to get in the trunk.
If u like the car, Enjoy it has much as possible because u will regret it later in the future, nice video and the car is Renault Sandero we have it Europe as Dacia. Thanks.
That red car is a Romanian car produced under the license of Renault. In Europe, it is called Dacia Sandero Stepway (Dacia is the Romanian brand) and for the rest of the world and for Russia it sells under the Renault brand so it is called Renault Sandero Stepway. It's a budget car in Europe is selling for 5000-6000 euros brand-new !
Hi there, the reason that PSE pump fuse blew is because it was running all the time. I would take the fuse out otherwise the pump will fail ( happened to me). i would fix the air leaks before connecting the pump up again. The pump does work the soft close on the boot, but i know that the S500 had an issue with the handle. Its made of plastic and breaks easily. With the ABC system, i can guarantee the pump seal has failed. It is right at the back of the pump. The oil runs down the back on to the subframe and dips on to the floor. If you get it up in the air with the engine off you will see it drip. When the engine is running the pressure is up which kind of seals the leak.
*if you ever do find a vehicle you do want to dig into the little small stuff on you might check out alldata that is a site that gives you break downs and repair pointers for fixing all sorts of issues*
Check inside your glovebox, there must be a switch that turns on and off the trunk connectivity for security purposes, my car has it and if it's turned on nothing can open the trunk except the key
Disconnect the pump line from the trunk and put that trunk line in a other port that one of the doors unlock with Mercedes Benz use air pump to unlock the door you can test that pump by swapping the lines in other ports to diagnose an issue with it for a trunk or door that does not unlock with the air pump. The air pumps do go out sometimes swap rear door air line with the trunk air line if it does not work the air pump is faulty and it’s on its last lags.
Hi you could have fuse gone again or a rela on it or do a reset on it that would do it as my friend did that and it reset the ecu to do a relane might help you out nigel
If its the sam as Audi, same time period, the rear key lock sits in a special orientation and then it opens bye remote, And Audi uses vacum blather for trunk lock but the struts are probably the hydraulic pump
hey partner, I got the $20 trunk shocks on ebay and they work great so far. Also got a $15.99 D2S xenon bulbs off of amazon from KENSUN, 6000k they work great you get two. Careful replacing them things can get broken
If you are going to change something with the headlights, check out the facelift ones (or aftermarket) that came with the 03-06 models. They look 10x better, same with the rear ones :)
Hi Randy, I like your UA-cam Channel, Just a Caution note on the Renault Sandero, Most likely that car is a stolen car, if no vin or missing vin, then, I suggest that pass on that one. Nice Benz... good work so far. ! Keep posting Videos.

I've been a Benz tech for 15yrs...the trunk lid...the handle is actuated by pse pump..the open and close of the trunk itself is hydraulic...also the purge control valve you may want to check the vacuumlines on the engine...the close Assist on the doors...if one leaks they all shut off..same goes for the trunk lid release...the abc leak is due to a line under the engine...you should Message me. I've had my fair share of working on these...
Try to pop the trunk from the inside. listen for a click /thump sound coming from the back. thats the air, trying. It may just be a cracked bladder. good buy.. I wanted that Model.
Hey Randy that Renault Sandero is from Mexico I see them here all day long. They have all kinds of different models. Anyway hope you get more information on how to fix the little issues with the Mercedes. Like always greetings to you and stay away from that heat.
That's a nice car and a great performer! Sell the car after you fix the trunk and warning light! You can still make a profit without fixing the rear blend door and the headrests!
Brother Randy welcome to the mercedes world. What I would suggest you do it get that software with the mercedes diagrams (google it bro I dont know the name as well) replace all the fuses and get an obd to your laptop with a software as close as oem possible and check all the codes and it will even tell you if you have a nail on the tyre or if the light bulb inside the trunk is busted. That car has more sensors than a person in the icu!! And loads of electronic
It’s a renault sandero stepway, in Romania this car sells under Dacia name, they are the producer! But out of europa they sell this car under renault badge. It’s a verry good car! In Romania this brand new car costs 5.500 euro(base model without ac, servidirection, and only one airbag). If you wanna’ see a more intersting car, look for Dacia Duster!
It’s a 2014 Renault Sandero Stepway rare in the USA and probably not worth buying since parts are hard to get other then by ordering online with a high shipping costs
The problem with the bladders not filling up with air could be a loose pressure hose. I own the predecessor of your car and that was the problem on my drivers seat.
That car from the end is dacia sandero stepway - the cheapest "crossover" on the market in europe with like 15 yrs old renault technology but 1.5dci is unbreakable
Think I would check into a used door for this car since it is the only rust on the car. This Mercedes is a really nice car. You never know unless you check.
It is a Dacia Sandero and is an off road model the Stepway . It is a Romanian car but in some parts of the world Dacia is not known so Reanault puts its sign on it, everything else comes from Dacia.
all door lock, soft close, your back trunk are in vacuum system scope of work. Possibly, there are leaks or you need to install new relay or fuse or install new vacuum pump. IMHO. If you want to keep this car, please ignore all details that you don't need. As long as your car can run well, AC is on and can cool or warm inside the car cabin, is already good. Next time, please get older mercedes benz such as W124 E500 1994-1995. It's still nice to drive, good engine power, but less expensive in fixing it :) I ever had W123 200 77 and W124 230 '88
I would find an Indy shop and get a print out of the fault codes. Erase the faults and see what comes back...that car probably has pages of faults.. those cars were quirky about the pneumatic systems failing...get a print out of your fault codes and post them...
This Renault Sandero Stepway was sold in Europe as a Dacia Sandero. It's sold as a Renault outside Europe. It's the first Sandero here, but since a few years, a new Sandero appeard in Europe. Dacia is a low cost car brand from Romania that belongs to Renault-Nissan. It uses Renault and Nissan parts, and it's a cheap car, but it's not so bad. Dacias main issue is that they are not well protected against rust, compared to Renault or Nissan cars. And yes, this one probably comes from Mexico. If you want any further information about these cars, ask me. ;)
The same air pump that runs the trunk runs the door locks. I dont think its working completly right. It should run the soft close doors also. Take one line off at a time to find which line runs what. It may be running vaccum but not enough vaccum because the pumps weak.
That "2014 Renault" in the video is actually Dacia Sandero Stepway. May be sold as Renault in Mexico. More common in Europe and in Africa. These cars are cheap in their size class. You will find more details by searching on the most famous search engines of the web :)
Get the facelift model's headlights
It'll make the car look a decade younger! But the you'll need the facelift tails too

Ahhh thank you!!
Show off your ride! That S600 would be an awesome Uber car.

Check the wires between the trunk door and the car, maybe they are cracked because its opened and closed million times
Even with all those little issues here and there, that S600 is still one awesome car.
It's the pump near the battery for the truck lid. how ever check them both.
I just sold a 2003 S-Class that had a central locking and soft close problem. Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish and a 3M buff pad for a hand drill and BAM clear headlights. No sanding and it's amazing and looks new.
If your going to change the headlight motor anyway, might be worth taking it out and stripping it down to clean in case you can get it going again.
I'm enjoying the videos on this one , can't wait to see it finished .
I bet that it's a fun car to drive.
thank you again for the awesome videos.

Thanks brother! I'm loving working on her too!

Rear seat headrests and soft close are on a vacuum system. You have leak. Yes, trunk is on air too. My CL has the same issue.
Yellow fuse out, wait a second, reinstall, that resets the pse, but it will melt if you don't fix the leaks.

A temp fix between washes is CRC applied to the head lights , Works ok.
Soft close is in conjunction with the vacuum system. Has a leak somewhere. Soft close will work off and on due to the how much air the car sucks up when you shut the car off.
Check the relay under driver seat. At-205 additive could stop the leak from dried seals on ABC pump.

I really love the vids on the cars you buy from salvage auctions, thanks man.
Thank you for watching!

Wow!! LOL
8.000-10.000€ in Germany brand-new. And they are pretty reliable
Its a french Renault bought it
Theyre not that cheap. In Spain the cheapest one is about 9.000 euros

The red car is called “Sandeero”. It’s a good car, handle very well the Brazil roads! We’ve a lot of big holes in our roads!
Great videos as always man
Thanks man.
Doing great Progress on the Mercedes. She really is a BEAUTY. Thanks for video.
Thank you Joe!
If it's losing fluid check the hoses and gaskets and metal lines as the connectors that's where it could be

Interesting that Oklahoma uses the letter Q on their tags, many states don't use the letters I,O,Q in their tag combinations to avoid confusion.
Your hydraulic fluid may be from a break in the braided line, the connection from line to strut or my guess, a leaky actuator ball.
check wiring harness on the doors , german cars tend to have their harness deteriorate over time causing wiring to break
hey partner, I got the $20 trunk shocks on ebay and they work great so far. Also got a $15.99 D2S xenon bulbs off of amazon from KENSUN, 6000k they work great you get two. Careful replacing them things can get broken

An alignment with camber adjustment on an ABC car... I wonder if you can get that done. As far as I know, not even all Mercedes dealerships can do it as it needs a special instrument called Romess. And even then I'm not sure the camber can be adjusted at all.
The trunk actuator drains the battery when parked for some reason l, people normally disconnect it to avoid drainage.
Good progress! Once that SRS and check engine light clear should be smooth sailing!! (minus the driveway puddles lol)
This car history on your channel made me subscribe... keep it up

Good Luck.
Airmatic does not control the trunk because mine has been disconnected and updated with normal struts,,and the trunk still works
I would fix the center consel head rest and trunk
Same reason the soft close doors and air bladders are deflated in seats. Good luck finding the leak.
You should do more car of the day towards the end of your videos. Ask your viewers to send you in listings from Copart /iaai . I liked what you did at the end of this video

Auto Auction Rebuilds sent you an email dude
Yea when deliver down by the Mexico border like Texas and Arizona I see vehicles only sold in South America quite strange to see lol

That's a nice car and a great performer! Sell the car after you fix the trunk and warning light! You can still make a profit without fixing the rear blend door and the headrests!
Put the fluid at the right level , them see if it leaks If you have to mutch fluid it could be leaking at a seal because of over fill
The central locking system is separate from the trunk. For that u need what's called a "trunk actuator". They're cheap. About $100.
I'm glad your channel is growing. I aint going no where.
Hey there
I also own w220 S Class. Where did order those parts?
Think I would check into a used door for this car since it is the only rust on the car. This Mercedes is a really nice car. You never know unless you check.
It is a Dacia Sandero and is an off road model the Stepway . It is a Romanian car but in some parts of the world Dacia is not known so Reanault puts its sign on it, everything else comes from Dacia.
Randy the rattle noise in your videos are due to your camera? Or sprinklings working in the background...
Bugs in the background.
who stole the number 1 from v12 cover lol now u have v2 engine :) btw good car
LOL Thank you.
Lol that was a good one 😂😂
all door lock, soft close, your back trunk are in vacuum system scope of work.
11:10 that is a sandero stepway in romania you can find it as dacia
that renault is original dacia sandero(stepway) if is 1.5dci its very cheap car but good for that price(a lot of parts is from megane 2)
Such a beautiful car
Thank you.
If you want any further information about these cars, ask me. ;)
what is a partially blown fuse ?
The same air pump that runs the trunk runs the door locks. I dont think its working completly right. It should run the soft close doors also. Take one line off at a time to find which line runs what. It may be running vaccum but not enough vaccum because the pumps weak.
Had same issue with my S500; had to replace main pneumatic pump 220 800 12 48
The Renault car is a Sandero, the version is called Stepway... We have this one here in Brazil...
I'd pull that headlight and hit it with some CRC clectrical cleaner on the connectors. Re seat all the headlight connections.
That "2014 Renault" in the video is actually Dacia Sandero Stepway. May be sold as Renault in Mexico. More common in Europe and in Africa. These cars are cheap in their size class. You will find more details by searching on the most famous search engines of the web :)
Oh, and the trunk not opening too. All related to central vacume system failure.
Still in great shape for this year
Its a Dacia Sandero with Renault (Renoo) badge with the Steaway trim level. Check Dacia.ro
It’s a Renault Sanders Stepway, a very normal car to se here in Argentina
Hi, I'm French and what a surprise to see a Renault and what's more - is not sold here (excuse my english is google which translates )
Your car must be stuck on valet mode. Usually valet mode does not allow you to open the trunk on valet mode
