He's talking about the door's handle, not the lock, because they'd tried the handle, and it doesn't matter, it requires manually unlocking first. They're already working on the lock, that she eventually gets, when he was talking about those handles.

Why did he come out of the house? He could of gotten away with that. They had probable cause to search the car but nothing on the house. This is why you dont talk to cops. You give them your identification and say I dont answer questions without a lawyer I dont know anything. They have a car with drugs no proof on how the drugs got there. They thought they saw a past offender, hence getting out of their vehicle. 3. As soon as they step out of the vehicle, the person that would later be charged immediately ran back into the house 4. They smelt marijuana and tried to trace the smell to the source which appeared to be around the vehicle. 5. They looked into the vehicle through the windows, which is legal, and found crack in plain view. 6. With the crack in plain view, there is plenty of probably cause to search this vehicle without a warrant 7. They attempted to question the house near the vehicle, which just so happened to be the subject that had previously ran back into the house upon the officers’ arrival. 8. The suspect is questioned about the vehicle, where he says he has been borrowing the car. 9. Suspect arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine
