You can get topology as an addon, it's great to get an overview of how the modules are networked together and which modules isn't communicating on that particular line.. obviously you do not need this feature but it does help.

That is interesting, I did not know that.
Yes, topology is handy because it shows you which networks each module is on, but so does the wiring diagram so I’ve just never found it necessary.
Thank you for sharing that tip, I’ll look into that add-on.

TOPOLOGY has its CONS, it does not show the proper layout of the modules in Series or Parallel to each other in reality, it does not tell you when a module is dead but installed unless you know what is installed such as the ECM, ABS, etc but if a silly example, if a heated seat and heated mirror and heated steering wheel module was dead and you did not know that module was installed, no help at all MAYBE, you would only get some Ucodes with no comm to this module and not even know what it was for?? If I am not mistaken, the screen does not give a count of modules on the main screen, you must scroll down to see what the highest number is on some scanners or count the installed ones yourself with no idea as the actual number of total installed modules, Snap On counts for you in 2 important places. NO, I am not a S.O. fan. Some scanner list everything and tell you whats not installed, but not all.
If you know what is not online, just look at the schematic and you may find the general area of the malfunction so no TOPOLOGY needed but the schematic is very useful, for guys with access, cheers.

@@DuaneDonaldson schematics requires you have a subscription or access to the diagrams. I DISAGREE about topology being a CON it’s a great feature to have but it’s not MANDATORY to fix an issue. More than welcome to stick to wiring diagrams and schematics to fix everything or even just stick to Snap-On if you HAVE TO COUNT MODULES. Who’s to say the car was programmed correctly for it to have the right count of modules? Many DIYers use older diagnostic kit with no topology wouldn’t even have knowledge on what modules are installed and have managed to fix their cars. At no point did I say it’s a REQUIREMENT to have topology. If you can’t see a module you will have a no com code stored somewhere. Like you said if YOU know what is NOT ONLINE then start there no point in WASTING anymore time than required. All features such as Topology should aid troubleshooting. Should help you in diagnosing. This post is 6 months old and yet you had to dig up a post and PICK and POKE at something that was only meant to let the content creator aware of a feature that is available to the product he was testing. So off your high horse as you DEFINITELY SOUND LIKE A S.O Fan
