Concerning the reference to men not crying: a few years ago I stepped on a nail that went through the sole of my boot. I did not cry, but I cussed pretty good.

Sounds more logical than saying "Fiddle-dee-dee, that will require a tetanus shot..." (Homer Simpson)

And then you start laughing. Irritates the p!ss out of my wife. “Why are laughing when in that much pain?” I say “why not”

Layin in the back window sleepin on the way to FL, that was literally what my dad usually did way back in the day, Indiana to Florida in the back window of a '48 Studebaker commander. I know that story well, grandpa tells it all the time but I guess that's what you do when you're 94 😂

I appreciate the way that Jeff openly admitted to having gotten a spanking when he did something wrong as a kid. I'm a person who is in favor of spanking if/when a kid truly deserves it. These days, that has become more of a hush-hush subject because of the dreaded political-correctness monster. I'm so tired of the anti-spanking movement: the people who say things like, if you spank a child even once, you're guaranteed to turn that kid into the future Charles Manson. *rolling my eyes* I grew up in the mid-70's-to-early-80's. Only got a patootie-warming twice. Same happened with most schoolmates and other kids of my generation. Once was usually all it took to teach someone right from wrong. Then, I went to college and came across a psychology professor who begged us never to spank our future kids. That was 1986. Nowadays, parents have to ground their kids from using their cell phone for a day or for an entire weekend...and I swear those kids cry their eyes out as if they're being whipped with a strand of steel-belted tire or something. They're grounded from using their phone (or iPod or some other electronic device...and suddenly they don't know what to do with themselves. Gee, here's a radical idea: how about having those kids read a book for once?!) I'm tired of seeing parents hauled off in handcuffs because of spanking their kid for once. For goodness' sake!

I think ppl who work in certain fields need to do stuff bc they just feel that it's what's right for their lives. But obviously, not project & leave their problems at the door. You know? Like how most other ppl working have to find a way to do. Kids will test their limits. & If coming from a broken home, they may learn how to play sides. Especially if the other side isn't as cooperative. Making it harder. So, discipline is in need. .. Not where it's being flamed for what it isn't tho. But if ppl cared about kids, truly, don't pick and choose. I'm not just talking about family dynamics. But for anyone else that could possibly involved. Ppl need to see the whole picture. & If not, then it's prob just best to focus on your own. Bc I could pick & choose too. But we'd be here all day. ..

If it happened once or twice in an entire childhood, I would not by any means consider that abusive if it was followed up properly. Many parents I know have spanked their kids perhaps once or something similar but usually as an absolute last resort. This isn't what most child development specialists are harping about. It is those parents that took spanking to an extreme though. And used it to punish for nearly, if not every infraction. This IMO is very abusive and I think in many cases is just a lack of parenting skills. And there is plenty of evidence to show this to be detrimental later in life both socially and developmentally.
I am personally against spanking and have 2 boys 12 and 15 that have never been so much as spanked, smacked or screamed at. And they are pretty good kids that I have trust in when they are out with others, or I need to leave them on their own for whatever reason (and achieving this is also a big part luck). They aren't angels by any means but they are pretty good. The other day a friend who borrowed my 1500 watt fog machine returned it while my younger boy was home alone. It is all good and was sat inocuously in the corner of our living room. He thought it would be a fun prank to have it plugged in and set it off a few minutes after I got home...... Needless to say such events get me pretty excited with a series of colorful metaphors. He didn't realize that it is a different world compared to the little 250 watt one we use for our gatherings in the summer.....

This is why kids are walking around like they own the place. Everyone needs to be knocked down a few pegs. And the best way to do that is with a spanking.

I like you said "truly deserves it". I received countless spankings as a child based on the lie of another child. Twice i never even found out why. I ended up with OCD so bad because of it i went to prison for compulsions.
