Thanks for this video! Have often wanted to get a rack for some of my nano tanks, but don't have a lot of space for a big bulky rack. This would be perfect. A tip for anywhere you put a tank (rack, desk, counter, etc) is to put a wooden cutting board under the tank - the kind that has a trough running around the edge to prevent liquids from spilling off the edge. The wood absorbs splashes of water so you don't have to mop up every drop, and if you have an spill over while working in the tank, the trough gives you time to reach for a towel before the water goes over the edge... :) A family member found some for me that were seconds, so they were dirt cheap... and they work great...!!!

I have this exact one. It’s flimsy, the brackets break any time I try to adjust it, and I don’t recommend it at all. Either shell out some extra cash for a gladiator garage rack, or stack some 2x4s on some cinder blocks.
I love how you interact, but sometimes you remind me of a pair of Zebra finches sitting together on a perch. Sometimes they are all lovey-dovey and preening each other, next moment someone gets pecked in the eye.
There were 6ft Beamswork lights on these stands, but I don't recommend these specific lights - every one of them broke. Hygger is around the same price point and seem to be better.
I have the same racks..I’m a soús chef at a restaurant and we have the those for food storage. We upgraded to some new ones at work and I was able to get those same racks y’all got from my work for free and currently use them for my 75 and 55 gallon tanks..they work great and are super sturdy not to mention they’re NSF certified and have that coating to prevent rust !
Is it the same rack? I mean a 55 gallon on it? Is it able to hold the weight? I'm asking cos I have a 20 gallon tank and am considering buying this after watching this video.
Do the shelves bow under your tanks? I tried a 48x72x18 for my 30 and 40 gallon tanks. The shelves bowed. I put a 1/2” plywood support board underneath, still bowed. I used 3 1/2” support boards, still bowed leaving a gap between the board and the tank. I don’t think I’ll be using these shelves for any heavy tanks.

@@kiranaric I believe that the rack systems in restaurants are way more sturdy. I have the 5 shelf units like the 4 shelves here, and any restaurant I've ever worked at, their shelving is heavier, sturdier then these, by a long shot. If I could ever get a hold of some of the restaurant ones, I'd use them on heavier tanks like the poster mentioned. Deffinately not on these in the video though!
@@lizzyanthus1 Hey thanks for the reply. I'd purchased that rack they showed in the video the very next week and it's really sturdy so far - been nearly a year. I have had three tanks on it at one point of time and it didn't bend or give away or anything. The largest I have is a 28gal but I use a deep substrate system so the tanks get pretty heavy. But your idea of restaurant rack systems is very appealing for me. I will look at them the next time I need another unit.
I've been looking into this because I got the same shelf from Walmart, put it together, then saw someone made a video where they've had issue with tanks falling off of this rack and now I'm afraid to use it, lol. I WAS going to put a rimmed 20g long on the lowest shelf and debated another 20g Long for the middle shelf, but that might be overkill. I don't want anything on the highest shelf/above my head. I have 3 x 5g's, 1 x 10g, 1 x 20g long, 4 x 2.5g's and a weird half hexagon 6.5g. I'm not worried about putting the 6.5g on that shelf. I have nine bettas and I was going to divide the 20g long 4 ways to provide 5g's a piece which would leave me with five other betta. If it wasn't overkill, it'd be nice to do a second 20g Long the same way and have eight betta on the one stand. I may end up just doing one divided 10g, two 5g or 3-4 2.5g's if they can fit. The 2.5g's aren't ideal, but they'll be okay until I get more/better shelving. They were originally got as small quarantine tanks. I'd prefer at least 5g a piece if not more.
These shelving systems are adjustable. You can put the shelves wherever you'd like with varied heights. I have these as dressers in my bedroom but wasn't sure about using them for tanks. Also, you can use S hooks for whatever you need to hang. 😁
I have that racking system in chrome. If I bought it again, I would go with black for sure. I would also get the wood to line the shelf. I used a yoga matt and foam. The wood is a much stronger option.
Mrs Prime Time Aquatics it’s in my living room. I’ve had it up for probably 3 years. I think the black would look better in my living space. I think the chrome will look good in my garage fish room and that is where it’s going. I’ve got 2 more tanks to empty then I can move it.
I have a good question, say one had an industrial shelving unit that could support several tanks with no problem, but what about the floor under it ? I am worried about the floor sagging and etc
I have the 48" x 18". One has 3-shelves then I put the extra on the other rack. I do use a rubber mallet to tap shelves to get as level as I could. I used the wheels to make a cart for my water change trash can.
I eye these shelves, but I feel that the legs take up room at the corners...so what is the inner dimension inside the legs? Can it hold a twenty long? Can you fit one in there between the legs? Thanks for great videos...happy Monday every one :)
I am using a slightly bigger version of this for my 20, two 10s and a 5. Hoping it will be sturdy with the plywood! I’ve had quite a few people tell me they don’t think it will hold the 20
Just depends on the weight rating of each shelf. We are running four of these units with no issues. I have 6 - 20 gallon tanks spilt up between the units and a couple shelves holding two tens on a single shelf.
I have these racks and two twenty gallons on them. They kinda stress me out though and there is slight bowing. I have them on plywood. But you never had any problem with this rack right? They have been on the rack for almost a year now
I have 5 of the 5 shelf units of this. I bought them on sale, from a big box store, for like $39. dollars each, for extra canned/boxed food storage. I'm wondering is the 5 shelf unit would be too big to use for tanks? As in, too tall to be stable, tipping over danger? Of course I wouldn't put tanks on the top shelves, but maybe some nice vining plants, or decorations. I see that right now, 7-27-23, this 4 shelf unit is $70. I can wait for a sale though. :) Thanks for your video, as always, very helpfull and informative! You guys rock! Do they say that anymore...LOL.
As of 7-2023, they are $70+change, for this 4 shelf unit, on Amazon. I have 5 of the 5 shelf units, that I've bought over the last 3 years, but got them on a great sale, for like $39, from a big box store, for the 5 shelf units. If you can wait for a sale, it's a great deal. I got mine on sale around Christmas time each year.
Hoping they could hold up a 3'x1'x'1 (about 50 gallons). A quick calculation shows that the water alone should weigh about 90kg, the tank itself around 5-6kg or so. The one I'm getting is rated at 400kg per level. Do you think it's safe or should I just get a real stand instead?
Does anyone know if you should put the wooden board on alone or with some sort of rubber or plastic liner or even foam as they mentioned? I’m asking because I’m slightly worried about the tanks sliding off the wood board! Plz let me know your thoughts!!!
Great video...set up looks awsome, really appreciate the videos you and your family make. My family and I have learned alot from them...have a great day fish nerds!
I was just going to ask how you attached the lights. I would be using this for my african violets and orchids. ??? Does this have leveling feature on the feet?
The lights come with plastic brackets to rest on fish tank rims. For our set-up we are using picture hanging wire and attached it to the shelves above.
Happy Monday, so good to see you both 😍 Darlings you are reading my mind, this is exactly what I intend to bye these days. I need one for my tanks, now I have 5 aquariums. Your nano wall looks so amazing and beautiful. 😍😍 Wish you a happy new week.❤️
Can I ask a question? The clips are plastic and the shelves sit on the clips right? so the weight of the tanks and shelf is all held up on 4 plastic clips. This is the only worry i have about it. what are your thoughts on this please ?
That looks good!!! Definitely going to have to get that. Then I just need to wait for a dollar per gallon sale and load it up and rescue w few more betas
When you put the board on the top of the shelf did you have it just fit it inside so it’s not resting on the outside of edge bars of the shelf? I have the same shelf and I noticed the bars on the edge at a tiny bit higher then the rest of the shelf wires. I think I am going to get board that sits on the inside but worried that won’t hold as much weight?
Cool, I use the 3 Tier Origami shelf rack that holds 250 per shelf without wheels. I have four of them and got a set of connection bridge racks to have additional shelves between stands. And of course I used 1/2" plywood per shelf for added support, painted them black as well :)
Looking for something strong enough to hold 20 and 10 gallon tanks stacked. The heavy duty shelf I got bows in the middle and bends the metal frame. It's supposed to hold a lot more than the one tank I had on. All the other ones I find don't look sturdy at all 😭
Menards carries the Honey Can Do brand racks that are almost exactly the same and I think they're a little cheaper. A great local option if you have Menards in your area.
Can use please tell me what you are using for lighting on those racks? I’m setting up pretty much the exact same rack and I’m curious about the lighting.
I have a question for prime aquatics how many guppies and platys do you suggest in a 40 gallon I also plan on keeping my 3 Cory's in there as well ? Just want to make sure i dont overstock as they will probably breed as well
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks for the reply I was thinking 10 of each but didn't want to over do it but am confident now just wanted your opinion Thanks Prime Aquatics.
Interesting video but I’m confused. I thought I understood you to say you’re not sure you’d trust a 20 gallon longs weight but isn’t that second level on the right longer and heavier than a 20 long? 🤔
I know you said, you would stay under 10 gallons. But, do you think this would hold/fit a 20L that wasn't filled with water? Trying to find something inexpensive/sturdy that will hold one 20L, one 10 gallon, and one 5 gallon tank. They are all reptile tanks. The heaviest thing in each tank would be the water dishes and random climbing rocks in them. Thanks.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks!! They are for snakes, so there are some heavy water dishes, a few rocks, caves, etc. But, I can lift them completely filled, which I most definitely cannot do if they have water in them. This stand looks perfect.
I have a 3 10 gallon tanks and a 20 gallon tank. But, my fish need more room. I do try to breed shrimp and soon fish. So now I am looking at two 40 gallon breeders and soon want a 55 gallon tank, maybe the 20 gallon tank or a 10 gallon tank. I want a 1 main rack. Do you have any solutions similar to this that don't look like 2X4s or cinder blocks, but can handle the weight?
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks. I was looking at some of them...like a Husky, but not sure if I wanted it in my living room. Would you put a 40 gallon on the bottom of the rack you have?
I've not tried the painted one but the chrome is slick enough to lead to a disaster in the fish room. I had one to collapse and lost several species of dwarf chameleons. The enclosures were the small zoomed one's with the opening front so they basically weigh nothing.
Okay so I just picked one of these up just waiting for the paint to dry on the plywood. The actual wire bars on the shelves seem suuuper thin and they bow with me pushing down on them same with yours right? 😅
I'm getting ready to set up my first tank. (29 gallon) Forgive me for a newbie question but I notice you don't have lids on some of these tasks. Do I need a lid? I plan on getting Corys, neons and a betta and I want live plants.
The general rule of thumb I was told years ago was to assume any fish will jump and always have a lid. In practice, the fancy long fin bettas and snails in most of those tanks are probably not much of a jumping risk. If it were me I would assume the neons are potential jumpers and get a lid just in case.
Google kids on fish tanks. Figured out, you meant lids on fish tanks. 😄 Thanks for replying. I've learned a lot from your videos. I'm about done with research and ready to get going on the actual set up.
Have you modified the 2.5 gallon tanks in any way to get the lids to lay flat? My 2.5 is a Seapora (Aquarium Masters) tank. The air hose and heater cord pops the lid up at the back. Been tempted to get a glass cutter to trim the lid, but it's a very small amount to trim.

IT'S GREAT TO SEE YOU 2 :)
THANK YOU FROM ISRAEL :)
Thank you!
We have 2 of those things in our garage for normal storage, they hold quite a lot! If my ~60 year old mother can set them up, anyone can!
Arkurian-Pattern Stormblade thanks for the feedback!
Happy Monday, so good to see you both 😍
Darlings you are reading my mind, this is exactly what I intend to bye these days. I need one for my tanks, now I have 5 aquariums.
Your nano wall looks so amazing and beautiful. 😍😍
Wish you a happy new week.❤️
Ooh - 5 aquariums - yay! Hope you enjoy your week as well! 😊
@@mrsprimetimeaquatics5497 thank you so much 🙏❤️
Deff small tanks build I like that long one what gallon is that?😊
12 gallon long bookshelf tank.
Can I ask a question? The clips are plastic and the shelves sit on the clips right? so the weight of the tanks and shelf is all held up on 4 plastic clips. This is the only worry i have about it. what are your thoughts on this please ?
That is true, but they are tapered, so it would be really hard for the shelves to slip through.
I just got the 5 shelf version of this (still has 350 lbs per shelf) but it is bowing in the middle slightly. Should I be concerned.
I use plywood over the shelves and haven’t seen that - except a little if I have a standard 20 gallon on a shelf?
So use plywood and foam?
You certainly can, but I mostly just used plywood.
I use that in the uk it is called erecta shelving for various things.
john glenham that’s cool!
I have used this for 5 & 10 gallon betta tanks and also the 10g bowfront ❤️
Glad it's working for you too!
I have a 55 gallon tank, would you recomend this stand for me?
This shelves are only about 32” long so the 55 wouldn’t fit. I would opt for industrial shelving for that size tank!
I need something that can hold 4 10 gallon aquariums on one shelf and a 20L and 2) 2.5 gallon tanks on another
Home Depot and Lowes sell industrial shelving units that can hold more weight as well.
That looks good!!! Definitely going to have to get that. Then I just need to wait for a dollar per gallon sale and load it up and rescue w few more betas
if i double this up and put a wood plank on top will it hold a 100 gallon tank
No, the shelf max is only like 300lbs or so? I would get the industrial rack they sell.
Great video as usual. Love the practical info and I love the delivery. That’s teaching. Kudos!!
Why thank you so much! 🙂
You said in the video that the heaviest load is a shelf with two 7.5s on it. What size is the long uncovered tank on the second shelf from the bottom?
That was a 12 gallon long
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thank you!
Wanna laugh? My husband turned white when he heard me watch this video 😂. More room for nanos !!!! We could arrange next to my giganto 🤣🤣🤣
HeRo that’s awesome! 😀
LOL!! Yayy!!!
What would you recommend for a 50 gallon tank? Should I just build it out of wood?
Yes, or you can buy industrial shelving from home improvement stores.
I need this in my life! Thanks 🙏🏻
✨☺️✨
When you put the board on the top of the shelf did you have it just fit it inside so it’s not resting on the outside of edge bars of the shelf?
I have the same shelf and I noticed the bars on the edge at a tiny bit higher then the rest of the shelf wires. I think I am going to get board that sits on the inside but worried that won’t hold as much weight?
Ya, I wound up cutting it to rest just inside those bars on the shelves,.
Very helpful. Solved a big issue. Quite a selection at Amazon! Many thanks!
What do you have laying down on the rack under the tanks? Is it for stability or just to contain any mess?
Plywood - just to even out how the tanks are resting on the rack.
Is the wooded piece required? I have 2 racks but one of them I didn’t do the wood, it’s already set up with a 20 gallon high, should I be worried?
It definitely helps balance out the weight.
I know these video is pretty old but I am investing on the 75 gallon tank and I would like to know can this that you are showing can hold it
No - the shelves here are only able to hold a 20 gallon.
what type and size is that long tank on the third shelf?
That is a 12 long that we got from Flip Aquatics a while back. Very hard to come by though.
Cool, I use the 3 Tier Origami shelf rack that holds 250 per shelf without wheels. I have four of them and got a set of connection bridge racks to have additional shelves between stands. And of course I used 1/2" plywood per shelf for added support, painted them black as well :)
Oh wow - sounds like a nice setup. 🙂
@@mrsprimetimeaquatics5497 Thanks, I love my setup. Now I just need more plants and some multi babies 😊
Good to know!
Another great video with information really unique
Can use please tell me what you are using for lighting on those racks? I’m setting up pretty much the exact same rack and I’m curious about the lighting.
They are 6ft Beamswork lights that I do NOT recommend - they all broke with 1.5 years.
Thank you. Believe it or not those were the same lights I was looking at! Now I don’t know what to get that will be cost effective.
I'm not sure if you put a video out but I'd love to know how you made your double 125g stand.
Ryan Z I actually do have a video out on that one!
Hey.
Do you think i can put a 20gallon high on the top, AND a 10 gallon down?
Thank you
It might get a little top heavy?
I have a question for prime aquatics how many guppies and platys do you suggest in a 40 gallon I also plan on keeping my 3 Cory's in there as well ? Just want to make sure i dont overstock as they will probably breed as well
Tyler Liskey you could start with 8-10 of each and let them breed?
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks for the reply I was thinking 10 of each but didn't want to over do it but am confident now just wanted your opinion Thanks Prime Aquatics.
yayy i found the english version on amazon
this will be perfect for my bedroom tanks
This was a great video, I was thinking of setting up a rack my self.
What do You guys use for filtration .?.
One central air pump for the most part. We have an older video detailing the system.
for small tanks this is nice, but cinder blocks all day for big tanks imho.
I have this rack for my reptiles/fish and its awesome
Still working?
Wondering what your using under the tanks, self leveling mat? I was going to get some wood cut to size
LOL, just got to the end of the video, heading to home depot now!
Yeah, Lowe's will cut it when their machine isn't broken. 😂 Which seems to be every time I visit in my area lol.
Lol
What did you guys put on top of the racks that the tanks are sitting on?
Plywood cut to the size of the shelf.
Interesting video but I’m confused. I thought I understood you to say you’re not sure you’d trust a 20 gallon longs weight but isn’t that second level on the right longer and heavier than a 20 long? 🤔
20s are ok. I probably wouldn’t trust a 29 gallon. We have four of these racks now and have 20 gallons on five of the shelves.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you! 🙂
Thanks.
Absolutely. We had a filled 20 long on there and didn't have any issues. I was being cautious about the weight. WIth no water you will be fine.
Johnny Macalvee most big box home stores also sell heavy duty racks that can easiest hold the weight!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks. I was looking at some of them...like a Husky, but not sure if I wanted it in my living room. Would you put a 40 gallon on the bottom of the rack you have?
Johnny Macalvee the racks for the nano wall are too small. You’d probably want larger ones.
where did you get that long rimless tank ad how many gallons is it?
The best place to find them are local fish stores. A search for Life Guard Aquatics fish tanks is a good place to start.
Did you guys put plywood on each shelf as well? Or are the tanks just on the metal?
Ya, we added the plywood fist to give the tanks a nice level footing.
Yep - they will do that, but had never had an issue.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics awesome thanks. Thoughts on a 20 long on a shelf?
How do you guys clean the bottom tanks? Im planning on doing a rack system too
We have a floor drain and run a gravel directly to the drain.
Amy G We have kids on almost every tank (some remove for filming. It’s definitely better to have a kid if possible.
Google kids on fish tanks. Figured out, you meant lids on fish tanks. 😄 Thanks for replying. I've learned a lot from your videos. I'm about done with research and ready to get going on the actual set up.
Amy G just saw that. Hahahaha oops
Mine pop up the same kinda drives me a wee bit nuts. I may do the same and try to trim a bit or something else...
Would this be good for one 20 gallon long tank?
Yep!
@@PrimeTimeAquaticsso the 4 shelf unit would the tank be better on the third shelf?
