Oh my god YES! I started off with a 40 litre for my goldfish I won when I was a child at a fair 🙄 the goldfish grew and I got more and upgraded to a 60 litre and a few years later I added white cloud Minos but my fish ate them, I then got dojo loaches, this then started my fish keeping hobby, I have now got 3 other tanks, one with a beta, one empty one I’m going to buy a another beta and now yesterday I brought my 20 gallon long tank, (bare in mind that these tanks are all in my bedroom) this houses my goldfish that are still alive today and I’m getting a pond done in my back garden for them! 🤣
U don’t understand how helpful you are for my 11 year old self, I have been begging for a fish since I was 7, today my dad finally agreed to. U are the only channel that is helping me , thank you so much for your kindness ! 😁
I'm so glad ya'll spoke favorably of the neon Tetras!!!!! I bought some by accident once and I love them!!!!!! I still have all 6, they are doing wonderfully!
Just finished stocking my 20 gallon long today. I got 1 bristlenose, 8 cardinal tetras, and 1 Bolivian Ram. Wouldn’t have done this tank if it wasn’t for you two!
Perfect timing!! Just finished moving all my fish from my 29g to my new 75g. Now I have a 29g free for new ideas!!! The hard will be to pick one between lots of great ideas! Thank you, guys ! ♥️👊 You guys are SO INSPIRING! 🙏
Zebra Danios are a great school fish ! Through not as colorful as Neon Tetras or some other fish perhaps ? They more then make up for with their liveliness and energy. They add welcomed movement and motion to your tank. And it's really fun to watch them zip around !
Guppies! I have them in a 20L with dwarf emerald danios and yellow shrimp. They make a fun wiggly "centerpiece" all over the tank as well as a nice dither fish for shy tankmates. No typical cleanup crew in this tank as the danios' territory is on the bottom, and the guppies scour the bottom also. The danios are much less shy now that the guppies are in there. Guppies are very friendly, happy, colorful fish. ❤💚💙💜💛
I have a 20 gallon high (Aquaone 510) tank - I just restocked it using this formula - I have 1 Bristlenose, 8 Glowlite tetras, 4 Platys & 1 Bolivian Ram - they are all getting along quite well. The Bolivian Ram is so peaceful and has no interest in any of the other fish
I just did a 20g setup. I chose Oto’s, CPD’s for a schooler, CPO Crayfish, blue dream shrimp, and an electric blue ram for a centerpiece. Thinking about adding either ember tetras or cherry barbs as well.
I love your vids. Species profiles are something I look forward to even as a 20+ yr hobbyist. You almost have me looking forward to Monday...almost. 😀 🐠 🤙
The meleagris shellies are incredible ! I had a batch of them and they were so much fun to watch as they were always displaying and active in the tank. Loved those, I also had the multifaciatus and they were also incredibly fun to watch. Thanks for your suggestions. I've been keeping aquariums for maybe 20 years now, quite successfully....and I'm poking around for new ideas with my 20 tall. I would love to have more blue rams, but it's hard to find a good batch of those in the lfs around here. I bred them a couple of times and they are an incredible fish.
Hey Jason I found them I got me a pair of brichardis !!! And can’t wait to get them home in their new tank!!! Only a 10 hour drive one way to find them but I found them !!!
I’ve kept 1-2 angels and a few rasboras in a 20H. Both females and never had a single issue other than when I first put them in many years ago when I was new to fish keeping.I also have a heavy planted tank and do 50% water changes twice weekly
Currently doing a 40G tank (it's all I could afford and find 2nd hand). Started with 12 Rummy Nose. Today I added a Bristlenose Pleco and 6 Common Corydoras (all 7 were very small - an inch if that). So currently not much color other than the red nose on the Tetras. Future additions - spread over time of course - are: 12 " Cardinal Tetras for more schooling colour 6 * Kuli loaches - additional cleanup but love the look, especially the striped or the YoYos. Danio's - about 8 - for top of tank. Trying to decide between Golden Longfin, Gold Zebra or Leopard Longfin. Centrepiece - still tossing between a German Blue Ram or a Gourami (Honey or True Honey). I gather regardless of GBR or Gourami, I still go one in a 40G. I do like the look of Swordtails but was told not to have these due to being live bearers. Loving your videos. Hope you do a "Community 40G" even though it's classed as a breeder tank.
2 favorite things about Monday: Jason & Joanna!!! Toss a random fantail Goldfish in just for fun! I've kept them for luck in every community tank w/no problems. The tetras especially love to follow behind them while they're eating and grab the tiny bits that come out of their gills! (Goldfish groupies!) Would love to see the 'Nano' version of this Vid on 'The Small Scape'.
Love this video! My 20 high has a Bolivarian Ram as the center piece, 8 harlequin Rasboras, 6 peppered corys and a small colony of neo caridina shrimp. I also put my female betta in there while her 10 gallon cycles but she’s buddied up with my ram and they do everything together. Should I move her to the tank once it’s cycled or keep her with her buddy? Aqadvisor says my filtration is at 1500% and It’s heavily planted. I do 25% water changes 2x a week.
Day two of fish tank research has led me here. Are you saying that the given numbers per fish type (from each category) can fit in the 20g long tank? What I mean is, obviously some of the recommended fish could be a group of five, where as another type would be one. If combined with all the largest numbers (presumably the smallest fish) would that still be okay for the tank? (I feel like I complicated that question, but not sure how else to phrase it. haha) Second question, do all of the mentioned fish require the same environment (ie: temp/ph/etc etc)? It's a good base list if I can use it to mix and match with as I'm learning. There's just an overwhelming amount of information and differences is tank size, water details, fish details...so many fish details.. and more. Just trying to understand. Hope you can somewhat understand what I'm asking... Again, I feel I made it way more complicated than necessary. Lol. Thank you!
It’s always best to look up the specific fish, but most mentioned here will do fine in the same water parameters. As for the numbers - you can use the numbers from each category for stocking.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics - Appreciate the fast response! I’ll pick from the list and then do research from there. Finally, a starting point! Haha. Thank you!
Quick question, I currently have a non planted aquarium 20 gallon long. However, im going out of country for a month so I am removing the fish i have and puting them in my friends koi pond. I want a change so i was thinking of getting a planted tank. Are their any good plants i could leave in the tank to grow while im gone. And should i keep the light on for those plants or not because i dont have a timed light? (I am planning to keep the fish mentioned in this videos).
i set up a 20 long with multies over a couple of months ago! no fry yet started with 4 multies may add one or 2 more just to increase likelihood of them breeding...i love them more than anything just about!
So I like to over stock my tanks… In one of my 20L I have 14 black neons, 15 Lambchop Rasboras, 4 Panda Corys, 1 Apistograma Caucatuoides, 1 lemon blue eye long fin Bristlenose, a pair or guppies, and 2 Nerites… I keep a close eye on this tank because it’s overstocked but the fish seem to get along amazingly and my water parameters are always stable and the plants keep my nitrates at around 5ppm. This is not a setup that I recommend for anyone who is not experienced or willing to do semi frequent maintenance. I have been in the hobby for years and just now feel comfortable with trying a tank that is this heavily stocked. Love the recommendations in this video, obviously I’m already implementing this stocking recommendation lol
Love this idea! Very timely for me. I have a 20high with a bn pleco, and a female krib (she harassed her mate to death). All she does is hide, and I thought I would go a different direction than a breeding pair. Thanks you two!
I started off with a 10 g and love the hobby so I upgraded to a 20g and now I got a 75 and I’m enjoying the hobby and still need all the info I can get because I’m planning on getting a bigger tank 😝
Happy Monday Jason and Joanna. I have always liked neon tetras, rams and colorful dwarf gouramies. You have introduced to me other community fish that I have never seen. So cool.😎 By the way Jason I decided against putting a mating pair of discus in my empty 36 gallon to make babies. I don’t want to stress them out and give them a crummy life. Thanks for the feed back. P:S.. A few more days and I get my one year badge. So excited! 😀🐠
@@PrimeTimeAquatics got 6 Cory’s and apistos “super reds” I got a pair… not a single I couldn’t resist 🫣. They only had 1 multi so I held off and the hatchet fish came in today and are in quarantine fyi lol
Starting my first 20 gallon tank! There are 3 fish I really like which are the Ember tetra, Bristlenose Pleco, and the Peacock Goby. Do you think I can fit all of these fish in my tank safely? How many of each fish should I put in the 20 gallon tank if I can fit all 3 in safely? Also, to avoid bringing too many fish in at once, do you have a recommendation on an order in which I should bring the fish into the aquarium? For example, ordering the Ember tera's first and putting them in the tank, then waiting a week and then ordering the Peacock Gudgeon, etc.?
Hey ,enjoying learning about all of the possibilities in a 20 gallon tank. I have a 25 gallon tank , soon to finish my cycling . Out of those suggestions , is there a total number of fish recommendation ? I don’t want to over stock .!
Another question. Lol I plan on adding to my 20 gallon. I have one Kuhli loach and four purple harlequin rasboras in now as my bottom feeder and schooling fish. I want to add 4 bearing fish and a center piece. Probably guppies/platys and a ram. How many more loaches and rasboras should I add with them if any?
Great job as always! Out working in garden all morning, just a Thought have you ever done a video on NPK of tank water for plants garden/ house plants. One on plane tank water versus water that filters have been cleaned in. Might be a good one for Farmer Jo’s channel!
I am new to fish keeping I bought a 20 gallon aquarium. Never cycled it properly because I didn’t even know that was a thing till I start googling things. I added stress coat and nitrifying bacteria readistart The next day later I added 5 peppered Cory cats then a few days after that I got a loach (4 inch max growth) he’s either albino or a golden dojo not sure. And 3 zebra danios I plan to buy 3 more. Guy at the pet store told be to only add 3 at a time... anyways I tested my water today and it all came back good besides NO2 level is 1.0 was wondering if you had any tips on how to lower it and also am I overstocking or you think I may be able to add something more would really appreciate your helps thanks
I just started cycling my 20g, it's in an old TV console...debating on fish, I'm thinking male fancy guppies, and tetras... but, how do you figure out how many total to ha ve? I'll do 6 ottos,...but how many each of tetras and male guppies?...including one centerpiece fish
I’m super late to this video but thank you guys it means a lot I’ve had a 29 gallon for about a year now and haven’t had nothing in it but zebra danios genuinely helpful
Let’s say you plan on creating a community tank with many of the fishes mentioned included would you recommend adding some cherry shrimp or will they get eaten by the larger fish?
I think a great center piece fish is a Betta. I have one in a 40g with gold white clouds, neons, and bristlenose. They are also pretty easy to come by.
If I were to go with Dwarf Gouramis as my centerpiece would it also only be 1 for my 20 gallon long? Second question if I were to get Peacock Gudgeon for my centerpiece would it also be only one or would I be able to do multiple since they are smaller?
Great list Prime Time!! I really enjoy these lists since I lack the experience with keeping a lot of these fish!! This really helps me immensely 🙏 Thank you for sharing I hope you all are having a wonderful day!👍🙏🌿🐟🌿💚
Can anyone tell me what the black fish at 7:27 is and if it theyd be okay to include in a 20gal high along with the other fish mentioned in this video?
Greetings from India. Thanks a ton for this lovely helpful video. I have 2 questions. 1. Can I keep gourami with ram? 2. As per this 20 gallons Stocking idea, can I keep multiple female rams or gouramis? Thanks a lot.😊
I won a goldfish at a carnival 4 years ago..went from a 5 to 10 gallon tank...now I'm about to go to a 20 but want to bring some pals for him...any advice? Introduce everyone to the new tank at once?
Probably dumb question lol but just wondering could you have 1 peacock guby and 1 ram together in a 20 gallon? I love both and not sure which one to pick!!
i have a 20 gallon long tank with maybe 50 cherry shrimp in it. the tank is dense with plants (mostly guppy grass). i trim the plants 3 inches from the top of the water. if i put a Betta fish in with my shrimp would some shrimp still make it to adulthood or would he wipe them out?
Just received a 20gal tank from a friend and was looking into making it more exciting than our past small tanks with a betta or golfish in them. Found this video and was wondering, what do you feed or how do you feed a tank with multiple fish? Can the regular fish flakes work as food for all of them? Is there difficulty in making sure they all get food without overfeeding? This is for my children and would really like to keep it as low maintenance and cost as possible.
I want a 20 gallon, and I was wondering if I put some Zebra Danios (or Harlequin Rasboras), Cherry Barbs, and a Kribensis would that make a great 20 gallon??
is it okay if i were to get a super red bristle nose pleco if i were to get some cardinal neon tetras and a bolivian ram or should i wait until i can get a clown pleco (out of stock where i wanted to get one) ?i tried to search and see if they had a temperament difference and i really couldn’t find a straight shot answer..
Hey I just bought a 20 gallon I have 3 fake plants I want to have more than one species of fish and maybe a community what would you recommend as hide out spots do I need live plants and fish from this video I’m a beginner I have handled fish before and had bettas but I took a break and just helped my friends care for fish
Hi there! I'm going to be upgrading to a 20-gallon tank, I've got the filter, heater, bubbler, etc all ready for it too. I currently have a 8 gallon tank, with 2 swordtails (3 inches), 2 guppies (1 inch) and 2 tiny ghost shrimp. - I'm planning on getting a group of neon tetra to school and 2 more guppies when my 20 gallon gets here. What do you think about that? (Maybe I can get a cleaning fish too, since the shrimp are only so small!)
I just got a 20 tall. I really want some neon's with angel fish. With one tiger Oscar. Would that be to much? I'm new to all of this so any info would help!
Angelfish should be kept in at least a 55 gallon. Oscars - 125 gallon minimum and even that is pushing it. Your neons are good but maybe try the fish we highlighted in this video?
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I have a beta and a African dwarf frog now. Do you think the beta would do well with neon's or some of the other highlighted fish? I'd like a variety of things!
My 6 year old son wants 4 fancy guppies, 2 dalmatian mollies, 2 gold dust lyretail mollies, 4 neon/cardinal tetras, and 2 cory catfish. Very specific on the number, but that's what he wants lol. Would that be good for a standard 20 gallon? Or more or less? I want to get what he likes(I talked him into having "his own fish" instead of a puppy lol), but I also want it to be colorful and fun because my 1 year old LOVES fish. I don't want fish that just sit and don't do a lot. Would a yellow convict cichlid work with the rest of those as a centerpiece fish? Thanks!
The guppies and neons will work in a 20 gallon. I might add a few more neons. The mollies can sometimes be really hard on one another in a 20 gallon tank. The yellow convict could potentially eat the neons. Maybe platys instead of guppies?
hi, might want to pass on the mollies as they breed to much and very often. had to get rid of a ton of babies, they had around 15 babies every few weeks at one point. i imagine you don’t want to deal with overpopulation in your tank
If I did a 20 gallon high tank with otocinclus cherry barbs guppies and a German blue ram how many cherry barbs and otocinclus should I have along with 3 guppies

Happy Monday. Wow, so many great choices again. Would love to get some Furcata Rainbows, very cool looking 🤩
Coridoras are the sweetest entertaining fish! I have them in all my tanks. They are the absolute best fish.
Love this idea! Very timely for me. I have a 20high with a bn pleco, and a female krib (she harassed her mate to death). All she does is hide, and I thought I would go a different direction than a breeding pair. Thanks you two!
can i do a setup like this in a 20 gallon tall tank? i mean idk if its really tall but its not long.
I started off with a 10 g and love the hobby so I upgraded to a 20g and now I got a 75 and I’m enjoying the hobby and still need all the info I can get because I’m planning on getting a bigger tank 😝
Awesome!
So excited! 😀🐠
One year badge!! Woohoo! :-)
Happy Happy Monday Monday...nice variety, something for everyone. Love it.
👍💓👍
😃😃😃
I’m doing two 20 longs based off this video! Multis and then a corycat, hatchetfish and apisto tank! Thanks guys
Have fun!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics got 6 Cory’s and apistos “super reds” I got a pair… not a single I couldn’t resist 🫣. They only had 1 multi so I held off and the hatchet fish came in today and are in quarantine fyi lol
I’m so excited for this video! I am planning a 20g set up. :) Love new ideas
Good luck!
I’m about to upgrade from 5 to 20 gallons!!!
My 5 gallon has just 2 white cloud minnows, so I’m going to get many more fish!
Another great video with a lot of information for establishing a 20 gallon tank. Excellent!
That would work well. You could easily do 8-10 embers, 4-6 peacock gudgeons and one BN. Order doesn’t matter. Have fun!
Both of you do a great job presenting the information and this one is no exception. A lot of other channels my boys and I just tune out.
Thank you for being here!
Hey ,enjoying learning about all of the possibilities in a 20 gallon tank. I have a 25 gallon tank , soon to finish my cycling . Out of those suggestions , is there a total number of fish recommendation ? I don’t want to over stock .!
You could go with the numbers suggested in this video?
Very good info. I plan to start a 20 gallon community tank soon. What do you guys recommend for foylage and substrate?
Crypts and Anubias work great. Any inert sand usually works well too!
I ask because I’ve read they both like company and 4 is too few for the schooling and the loach might need a friend.
Loved this, thanks guys.
I just got a 29gallon high tank and once it’s cycled I’m planning on doing 4 dwarf suckers 4-6 cherry barbs 3 guppies and a blue ram and maybe 6 neons
About how many fish will i have if i follow the recommendations? Thx
I love your videos and all the references you make to previous videos. I did a 20 long with a male betta, rummy nose and neon tetras!
Nice!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics do you all have a blog where people can share tank setups?
Jason you're videos are great. GOOD JOB
Thank you!
I just started cycling my 20g, it's in an old TV console...debating on fish, I'm thinking male fancy guppies, and tetras... but, how do you figure out how many total to ha ve? I'll do 6 ottos,...but how many each of tetras and male guppies?...including one centerpiece fish
I think 6-8 each should work well.
I’m super late to this video but thank you guys it means a lot I’ve had a 29 gallon for about a year now and haven’t had nothing in it but zebra danios genuinely helpful
Good to hear!
How do you feel about balloon belly mollies in this kind of tank
That might work.
That's awesome content and ideas for my 20g! deff subscribing now!
Let’s say you plan on creating a community tank with many of the fishes mentioned included would you recommend adding some cherry shrimp or will they get eaten by the larger fish?
Some of them might eat shrimp. Generally all cichlids eat shrimp.
I think a great center piece fish is a Betta. I have one in a 40g with gold white clouds, neons, and bristlenose. They are also pretty easy to come by.
It can be, but have to be careful with some of the schooling fish :-)
I absolutely love these videos, makes my fishkeeping hobby more fun! Jason and Joanna thanks a lot👍🏻🙂❤️And happy Monday!
Yay! Hope you have a great week 😃
If I were to go with Dwarf Gouramis as my centerpiece would it also only be 1 for my 20 gallon long? Second question if I were to get Peacock Gudgeon for my centerpiece would it also be only one or would I be able to do multiple since they are smaller?
I would do 1 dwarf gourami. If you went the peacock gudgeon route you could do 4-6 easily.
Following this, could you put an angle fish in as the centerpiece?
I recommend at least a 55 gallon for angels.
Great video. Can't wait to see how Joanna sets up that tank.
Lol - that makes two of us. 😂
What do you think about a red tail shark in this tank
I wouldn't put a Red Tail Shark in anything less than a 4ft tank. They can be very aggressive, especially as they get larger.
Great list Prime Time!! I really enjoy these lists since I lack the experience with keeping a lot of these fish!! This really helps me immensely 🙏 Thank you for sharing I hope you all are having a wonderful day!👍🙏🌿🐟🌿💚
Thank you :-)
Can anyone tell me what the black fish at 7:27 is and if it theyd be okay to include in a 20gal high along with the other fish mentioned in this video?
Those are black mollies. Usually do best in at least a 29 gallon or larger.
Greetings from India.
Thanks a ton for this lovely helpful video.
I have 2 questions.
1. Can I keep gourami with ram?
2. As per this 20 gallons Stocking idea, can I keep multiple female rams or gouramis?
Thanks a lot.😊
I would not keep multiple gouramis. The gourami and ram combo might work.
I won a goldfish at a carnival 4 years ago..went from a 5 to 10 gallon tank...now I'm about to go to a 20 but want to bring some pals for him...any advice? Introduce everyone to the new tank at once?
Rainbow shiners? If you have a comet goldfish they often grow to 8-12” and usually require at least a 6ft tank long term.
I have an angle fish would it work if I did a bristle nose, 7 neon tetras, and 1 angel fish It would really help me out if you answered thanks 🙏
Probably not something I would do in a 20. The angelfish will eventually need a larger tank, but the others would work.
Probably dumb question lol but just wondering could you have 1 peacock guby and 1 ram together in a 20 gallon? I love both and not sure which one to pick!!
Probably work out ok 😀
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you!
For the schooling fish such as neons, can you mix the colours within the 6-8 or would you suggest getting all the same colour?
I would probably get the same color.
i have a 20 gallon long tank with maybe 50 cherry shrimp in it. the tank is dense with plants (mostly guppy grass). i trim the plants 3 inches from the top of the water. if i put a Betta fish in with my shrimp would some shrimp still make it to adulthood or would he wipe them out?
The adults might be ok, but small shrimp will be eaten.
Hi, I've a 20 Long. I want to put in Glo fish but im not sure what else to add with them. What are your recommdations? Thanks, Chris R
Most of the fish on the list would work.
This may help: ua-cam.com/video/18zLyt4h-A8/v-deo.html
I want a 20 gallon, and I was wondering if I put some Zebra Danios (or Harlequin Rasboras), Cherry Barbs, and a Kribensis would that make a great 20 gallon??
I think it would! 😀
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks!!!! 😁
I've had them before in a 20 gallon. But not all at once.
Very nice choices.
Can I also add a couple shrimp for cleanup crew?
The fish choices would have to be really small. All cichlids eat shrimp too.
is it okay if i were to get a super red bristle nose pleco if i were to get some cardinal neon tetras and a bolivian ram or should i wait until i can get a clown pleco (out of stock where i wanted to get one) ?i tried to search and see if they had a temperament difference and i really couldn’t find a straight shot answer..
That would work!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics awesome!! thank you!
Hey I just bought a 20 gallon I have 3 fake plants I want to have more than one species of fish and maybe a community what would you recommend as hide out spots do I need live plants and fish from this video I’m a beginner I have handled fish before and had bettas but I took a break and just helped my friends care for fish
You don’t need live plants. You can certainly use the suggestions from this video. Have fun!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics would cherry barbs tetras and Cory catfish be to much?
That could work. Just keep an eye on the swordtails. They may eat the shrimp and possibly bully the guppies a little.
Half beaks are so COOL
9 neons , 11 glow lights and 16 khulis in my black water 20......they seem happy . plus its my Sunflowers favorite tank.
I agree with the first 2! thanks for what guys do
Centerpiece fish reccomendation : black skirt tetra
Wonderful video lots of great ideas. I really like my harlequin rasbora great, fast and get along with everything.
You guys are great.and thank you.
I have a 16g Bio Cube. Will these fish work in this size or should I go with the 10g recommendation?
I might lean more towards the 10 gallon set ups.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks so much for the reply! I will let him know!
hi, might want to pass on the mollies as they breed to much and very often. had to get rid of a ton of babies, they had around 15 babies every few weeks at one point. i imagine you don’t want to deal with overpopulation in your tank
Thank you guys 🙏
I’m looking to get some glow lights; I’ve never had them. Panda garras or gastromyzons. Platys as your showpiece. 20L are such a fun size.
That will be fun!
If I did a 20 gallon high tank with otocinclus cherry barbs guppies and a German blue ram how many cherry barbs and otocinclus should I have along with 3 guppies
