Gnome Angel quilt-a-longs have provided a lot of motivationa and fun while making some amazing quilts. So it was really great to finally meet her and chat with the woman behind who makes it all happen. We had so much fun and I hope you enjoy it too. So grab your sewing and a cup of tea and here's my interview with Angie Wilson of Gnome Angel
Because of this video I have decided to try the sewalong. I am all signed up and have already paid for and downloaded the pattern. I think that I will use the Create line by Kristy Lea for Riley Blake (minus the wasps) plus a few other solids/blenders to round out the rainbow. I hope that they will work well.
What a candid and open conversation about real life this was! Quilters are amazing people. Thanks Karen for these snapshots of life and lovely creative people!
Holy cow! I was not familiar with Gnome Angel but love, love Angie’s honesty and her approach to choosing fabrics and patterns. Wonderful episode, thanks Karen!
I just love you. You make me so happy and introduce me to some wonderfull people and things. Like Gnome Angel my mental health took a dive That’s when I found you. You make me laugh cry and everything in between. I applied your honesty and recognised the strength of character and spirit it take to be as honest as you are with us unknowns on the internet. Thank you Thank you Thank you.
Karen, only one thing wrong with this incredible interview. It was too short. Boy she came across as a lovely person. Seriously could have listened to this beautiful human for hours. I am firstly going to look into her QAL, then make a cuppa, grab some hexies to sew and watch it again. Thanks Karen and Gnome Angel. Oh as a Melbourne quilter, it was fantastic to hear an aussie voice too.
Wow great interview Depression and putting God first and family values back in her life...what a great testimony. Thank you yes Covid 2020 was a renewing of the Mind, Body and Spirit. The battle is real. Put your Armor of God on every day. Amen
Thank you so much for speaking about your mental health journey and your faith. What a blessing you were to me today. Sometimes God allows difficulty into our lives to better us. We just need to see His hand at work and know that He has our best interest in mind.
I was thinking the same thing. Mostly what I hear is how awful 2020 was. For me it was a time to rediscover myself and what’s good for me and what I love to do. I realized the fewer people I am around the less drama there is. I have anxiety and depression so was really surprised I did as well as I did. Thank goodness for quilting and sewing. ❤️❤️
I’m an Aussie and had never heard of Gnome Angel, but as soon as she spoke I thought, hang on, she’s an Aussie too! They say you don’t recognise your own accent, but guess that’s not true😙 I shall definitely follow her, but will try not to bug her! She’s a wonderful lady. Thanks Karen, you introduce us to the most interesting people. God bless her ❤️🇦🇺
Of all the quilter interviews I have seen in the last 20 plus years, this one between Karen Brown and her guest Angie Wilson ranks in the top 5 for interesting, informative, and fun. I love Australian and Canadian accents, and people who have learned be themselves. (I'm 72 and still trying!) Thanks to you both for an entertaining conversation. 😊❤👍❤❤❤
A great interview with Angie. As an Aussie myself, I loved her character and down to earth approach to your questions. So true Angie that we live in the best country in the world and we had so many challenges from mother nature in the past few years that last year when covid hit, lockdown didn't seem so bad. Our creativity helped us overcome it. Sorry I hadn't heard of Angie before but will definitely have to look her up.🇦🇺👍
I love Angie Wilson and Karen Brown, just to name a few. There's no one in my circle of friends that's a textile artist. They don't get the love of colour, pattern, texture and rhythm that working with fabrics brings to me. I'm a hoarder to all of them. So nice to "meet" others like me.
I've noticed that so many new quilters only buy fabric lines, follow a pattern to a "T" - even matching color placements & sending their quilts out to be professionally quilted. When I started many moons ago before you tube and all that, I self taught myself through books and magazines. You need to make to learn. You need to join a guild to grow. And you need to go to shows to see the originality of others so you can be inspired. So many seem to be afraid to follow their own instincts and be patient enough with themselves. I love the whole process of making a quilt. The designing, choosing fabrics (or dyeing my own), piecing, basting and the absolute best part quilting. I love show & tell at guilds and entering shows for feedback, oohs & ways & winning ribbons. It's very rewarding to design something for yourself and then find out others like it too.

The mean-ness of humans is disheartening. This was a fun interview, and really resonated with me about the dangers of putting yourself out there. (How do you get hate mail for designing fabric?!) I like her bravery with picking fabrics and colors! Much fun!

Karen, I love your interviews. I love seeing experienced quilters and designers and entrepreneurs. I’m a novice and thanks to people like you I’m learning so much!

I really understand somewhat. The arthritis in my hands put me on disability early. I have friend who will cut larger straps & pieces. Also saved for the accuquilt go but only bought the straps 1.5"- 3.5". So what if I'm slow sewing & let others finish my quilt. Keep on keeping on.
Wow!! She was so interesting, funny and so honest. I will listen to this again I’m sure many times. Thanks so much Karen for getting such interesting people. 🪴

Everyone has already said this... the best interview yet. Y’all had me laughing and thinking about how I go about my quilts. Thank you for having Angie on your video. Thank you for all the work put into these videos. I appreciate you sharing with us.
Wonderful interview and I love Angie! Being a small business one woman band myself I feel a kinship with Angie so much! My customers love your designs and I hope you take that to heart! Keep up the wonderful work but please keep yourself Healthy!! Take some time for yourself! Thank you Karen for a great interview and for all your tips! Your chats with Angie are so fun & friendly. I enjoy listening & learning…….& laughing. Humor is definitely a necessary part of any creative craft! 😄💗☕️🍩
I have to say that I joined along in Gnome Angel 2017 100 Blocks 100 Days and it is still my most enjoyable quilt along. And, I finished my quilt and still periodically use it on my bed because I thoroughly enjoy reviewing my blocks. I still receive lots of compliments on this quilt. One day I may join again and make a 2nd version. I hope you enjoy participating as much as I did. I am so glad you had Angie on your channel. Thank you!
I have enjoyed watching your "Let's Talk" series very much. This is the first time though, that I felt like Angie understood my own quilt philosophy and how I approach quilting! Thank you!
Really great interview. Never heard of Gnome Angel before. Can't wait to go to her Instagram page. Thank you Karen for sometimes introducing new quilters to me and allowing me to listen to favorites that I've followed for many years. You do such a great job.
Good morning everyone! I just checked the Toronto Public Library and they have two copies of an online book by Laurie Hird entitled "The farmer's wife homestead medallion quilt : Letters From a 1910's Pioneer Woman and the 121 Blocks That Tell Her Story". It is a 2020 edition. I couldn't locate the one that Angie is referring to, but it's good to know that there is this resource. Happy sewing ladies, and thank you Karen for bringing these awesome talents of the quilting world to us!
I love this interview with two of my favourite quilting people. I live in the same city as Gnome Angel but have only met her once in a hotel lift in Houston.
OMG. I've been a huge GnomeAngel fan for years following the Gypsy Wife QAL. I cannot finish a quilt to save my life but I got that one done on time and it is gorgeous. I get so many compliments on it. I've recommended the GnomeAngel website at least 100 times to friends and strangers alike. I've never seen Angie in video but she's just as I had imagined she would be. I hope there are more QALs to come.
I really appreciated Angie's honesty and vulnerability as she shared how challenging some of the work has been. Also her fabulous sense of humour. Thanks for a great interview!
I thoroughly enjoyed your visit with Gnome Angel. You two brought back my Australian memories! We lived there from 1962-1964. Singleton, NSW,Mildura, Sydney, and Perth. My oldest son was born in Perth in 63. No quilt shops anywhere back then, so I took up knitting. Karen, my DH worked on a seismic crew out of Broome while I stayed in Perth. Aussies are the nicest people you can ever meet!
I feel like you have hit a home run with your interviews! It’s revealing to just let the guests talk with minimal interruptions. Am learning so much! 😊
Such a wonderfully rich interview. I'm going to have to watch this a few times. Love how genuine and authentic this Aussie is. Great interview! Thank you!
I LOVE that you just go with your gut lol. My quilt layouts are whatever "makes me happy" lol. I don't like buying full lines either. I just buy what I like and figure out what to do with it later. I get bored with repetitive things, which is probably why I have so many UFO's which are really WIP's.
I tend to get bored very easily and make a test block and then another sounds or looks like a great idea and make another! I have sew many ufo blocks and keep trying more! Help!
I too do not buy quilt lines. I do not want to make cookie cutter quilts where it looks like everybody else's. I Wang my quilts to be as original as possible.
This was a GREAT interview! You both were just so animated, it was so much fun. I see why her quilts are so amazing, they are so full of her personality. I loved her Gypsy Wife! I have always wanted to do one ... now I can hardly wait to start. I would love to have a quilting retreat with her!
2020 brought me quilting! Being shut down for so long (we are still really restricted in Michigan) I spent so much time on UA-cam. I have made several quilts.
What a fun interview, Karen. I'm Aussie too but had not heard of Gnomeangel so thank you. Angie is delightful, love her laugh. I agree that cutting us boring too. No way can I cut all the piece at once. Its cut some, sew some for me. And forget about the doves!
Thank you, again, Karen, for another amazing interview. I began to look at forming quilts, quilting in general and color in quilting differently, and in less than an hour, just ausssome!
What a great conversation. It was so comfortable and authentic. I felt like I was sitting at the kitchen counter enjoying a cup of tea with two fantastic, honest and creative women. Thank you.
This was my absolute favorite! I feel as if she and I are kindred spirits, in that I just like to put fabric into things that make me happy Also one of my favorite sentences came from a wedding planner with my daughter got married who said nothing will go perfectly; it may not go the way you wanted it but it will be perfect to those who see it
Wow what a fabulous interview. Angie is great. She's the kind of person that I could hang out with. Mental health issues is a real thing and it's so important that we talk about them. I spent a month in Australia going to different parts of the country and found it to be the most gorgeous land. It's nothing like America. So beautiful and yes they have some of the scariest critters known to man. 😄 You and Angie have totally inspired me to put some of my pieces together and quilt away. Great interview. Cheers! ~ Arlene 🙂
As a quilter and sewist for decades, I adore quilt retreats, and sew alongs. I have met so many amazing human beings! During this time of COVID/Quarantine, i am truly grateful for all the zooms, and support of other quilters, knitters and crafters! Never have there been such a wide diversity and accessibility for all crafts! Thank you thank you all...
I was not aware of this person prior to your interview, I wish the interview could have been longer. She said so many things I think about and I want to know more. Thank you.
I truly enjoy these interviews you do! When she mentioned the large prints, I thought of Tula Pink too! It's so hard to cut up all those large prints into really small bits. It's nice to enjoy the largeness! I enjoyed hearing about where she lives - I have a friend in Australia. I have been blessed to get to visit on three different occasions. Hearing her voice is a pleasant reminder of my friend. I have great memories of Australia. Next time I go back, if I get to go back, I will have to find some of those quilt shops!
I am brazilian too! So nice to see a brazilian quilter since we don’t have many quilter down here. I think that, like in Germany, the language is a barrier because there are few people who speak English. And we are atached to centimeters as well 😂

Great program! Thanks for introducing this talented lady to us all.💝
I really enjoyed this interview. Thank you.
Wonderful interview between two humble women. Thank you ladies!
We love her! And all Aussies! She’s infectious and very articulate about her art. Thank you, Ladies. A wonderful use of my last 40+ mins
This was a GREAT interview! You both were just so animated, it was so much fun. I see why her quilts are so amazing, they are so full of her personality. I loved her Gypsy Wife! I have always wanted to do one ... now I can hardly wait to start. I would love to have a quilting retreat with her!
This was a terrific interview- I really enjoyed everything Angie had to say.
Thank you Karen. Another great video with another great guest. More please.
I loved this interview, it was fabulous! Sometimes it's nice to know we are all the same. Thank you Karen for being so real with us.
I learn something new every interview. Thank you!
2020 brought me quilting! Being shut down for so long (we are still really restricted in Michigan) I spent so much time on UA-cam. I have made several quilts.
Absolutely loved this interview! Thanks Karen and Angie!!!
Thanks Karen for another awesome interview as always!
What a fun interview, Karen. I'm Aussie too but had not heard of Gnomeangel so thank you. Angie is delightful, love her laugh. I agree that cutting us boring too. No way can I cut all the piece at once. Its cut some, sew some for me. And forget about the doves!
Isn’t that such a good saying
Thank you so much for your honesty
Loved that... she’s such a down to earth person 🤩
I love her. When you are uneducated about color it's easier to just choose what you love.
Thank you.
Thank you
This was my absolute favorite! I feel as if she and I are kindred spirits, in that I just like to put fabric into things that make me happy
Also one of my favorite sentences came from a wedding planner with my daughter got married who said nothing will go perfectly; it may not go the way you wanted it but it will be perfect to those who see it
Wow what a fabulous interview. 😄
You and Angie have totally inspired me to put some of my pieces together and quilt away.
Great interview. Cheers! ~ Arlene 🙂
I really like this interview. Angie is down to earth. What a fun lady. 💕
I'm trying to decide if I should do her 100 day quilt along !! Any advice ?
I absolutely loved this video I couldn’t believe how quickly the time went. Thank you so much for bringing this to us. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I was not aware of this person prior to your interview, I wish the interview could have been longer. She said so many things I think about and I want to know more. Thank you.
Love the quilt behind you Angel....
Totally unique.
So pleased to have heard your story...
Let's quilt!!!🤗
I truly enjoy these interviews you do! When she mentioned the large prints, I thought of Tula Pink too! It's so hard to cut up all those large prints into really small bits. It's nice to enjoy the largeness! I enjoyed hearing about where she lives - I have a friend in Australia. I have been blessed to get to visit on three different occasions. Hearing her voice is a pleasant reminder of my friend. I have great memories of Australia. Next time I go back, if I get to go back, I will have to find some of those quilt shops!
Thanks Karen for sharing this interview. Angie is such fun . Cheers from Melbourne.
Thank you for the Gnome Angel interview, I find your interview series to be so interesting and love the opportunity to expand my knowledge!
I am brazilian too! So nice to see a brazilian quilter since we don’t have many quilter down here. I think that, like in Germany, the language is a barrier because there are few people who speak English. And we are atached to centimeters as well 😂
Thankyou Karen and thankyou Angie.
She is really fun! I can't imagine blocks that small.
