I know him!!! Hi Fashion Fabrics was a *fabulous* store when we lived in Grand Junction--an independent fabric store with the most wonderful selection. Hello, Jeff!
This video introduced me to Bernina Jeff. He is now one of my primary sources of information and encouragement and unique custom notions for my Bernina 770QEE w/Plus
Woah! He is FABULOUS! It's so nice to hear someone speak who is clear, concise, knowledgeable and doesn't say 'ah' every three words. Definitely will check out his videos. Woohoo!! Thanks! 🥰
How did I miss this video. It was fantastic. I'm so excited to learn more from Bernina Jeff. I have only owned two machine's in my life, both a Bernina. First one bought in 1979 and it still runs well. Just now starting to get squeaky. My last was purchased about 7 years ago and I love it so much even though it's not the top of the line. B550. I'm going to get my husband to view his videos to help me keep things running more smoothly. Thank for this.
I continue to be delighted with the content of your interviews. You are the sum total of each individual interview. Without your curiosity and know how we would probably never benefit from all this fabulous information. I continue to bless you and urge you forward.
Just bought a Bernina ! Love it❣️and sew glad to discover Bernina Jeff too he’s been especially helpful enabling me to enjoy my new Bernina Sewing Machine. THANKS JEFF 😊 and Karen too
Jeff is awesome. He has a wealth of information and is more than willing to share it. His videos are clear and so helpful. His videos have saved me many trips to my local dealer. I will call him first if I have a question. He is old school and common sense personified.
Thank you Karen & Bernina Jeff. I live a few hours away from Grand Junction and my friend has an RV. So let’s do the workshop, Bernina Jeff! Come on down, Karen!
Bernina - excellent machine. Bought my Bernina Favorit 740 1966 and used it for sewing clothing, patchwork and even canvas. Has served me well and still going strong. (South Africa)
My brother lives in Grand Junction and I so wish I had learned about Bernina Jeff when I was out there last summer. We travel there often with our travel trailers I have a Bernina 830 Record that I have loved and used my whole adult life and just recently bought a Bernina Artista 185 second hand that I would love to have in for a "check-up". I'll check that May retreat for sure!
I used to live near Grand Junction and bought several Berninas from Jeff. He is every bit as knowledgeable and genuine in person as he is on UA-cam. He has walked me through taking my machine apart while on the phone. And getting it back together! I’m glad you found him. And I’m happy I found you!
Great video. I love what Bernini Jeff said about the type of machine you buy. I have quite a few friends that have multiple machines with all the bells and whistles. When I got into quilting about 8 years ago, I couldn’t afford those expensive machines from the dealers and bought a Brother on Amazon. It stitches the 1/4 in seam just perfectly and is a work horse. I have it serviced once a year. I did purchase a long arm machine about 4 years ago instead of wasting money on a fancy domestic machine. I am very happy with my set up. Like you and Jeff said, there is no need to keep up with the jones’.
I just watched this and you both are so pleasant to listen to and learn from. Karen, your questions are wonderful and Jeff, as always is so approachable and sincere. A great interview!
Karen, I know this is off topic for today, but I just wanted you to know how thrilled I am feeling today. You have talked about UFO's a lot and a couple weeks ago, I just realized that the project i was avoiding was causing me a lot of stress. 15 years ago, I promised to make my husband a Civil War Reproduction quilt and talked him in to paying $300+ for the fabric. I got a good start and stopped. There it sits in plain sight making faces at me while I tried to ignore it. Then the light bulb came on and I realized I was looking at "Karen's UFO" she has been telling me about. I got it out and started working on it. As the days progressed, I realized that some of what I wanted to do with that quilt was beyond my skill level at that time, I just didn't realize, what my problem was. I am so grateful to you Karen for all you do to help us get over ourselves. Your good advice has helped me so much. I no longer feel like a twit. My project is just not done yet, but I am working on it and can see the end. Thank you so much.
My sis got me an electronic Brother for my b-day ten or so years ago. From Wal-Mart no less. 😊 It was maybe 150 bucks or so. I love it but was thinking it was lesser than my friends who had Bernina's, Baby Locks & Janomes. I'm not tech savvy & it's a multi stitch computer machine & I've decided it has waaay more stitches than I care for. I went to my local Stitch and Vacc shop & that man said the most profound thing to me that banged my brain...most people only need a mechanical machine that uses straight & zigzag stitches. That's my goal! To find an old clunker that's mechanical with no frills. He has those but wants way too much $$$ for them.😏 The search is on.
I love your channel and never miss a post. I thought I was such an experienced sewist that I didn’t need anyone’s tips and tricks. Was I wrong! Thanks for having Bernina Jeff as a guest! I discovered him when I was locked down, no access to a dealer and my 740 was not cooperating at all, then I got the dread 1010 error message. I frantically searched for some help, and finally found Jeff’s video on just those kind of problems. Half an hour later, my machine and I were happy together. I then watched all of his relevant videos, and I’m a much more skilled Bernina driver.
This is Cathleen from Nevada, and I Love Bernina Jeff, but I’m not leaving my husband for him :) he’s extremely knowledgeable. I was honored to meet him at the shop and work through a few issues I was experiencing.
This was the BEST interview. Thank you so much for providing the video for all of us to learn from. I have a Janome, but no dealer, watching Bernina Jeff provides so much valuable information. He is amazing as are you.
@@redhen689 I am pretty good about cleaning mine, but I do need to find a dealer close to home that I can take it to when it's time. She is only 4 months old so I am good for the moment. You are right though, I absolutely LOVE my machine. Which one do you have ?
I am so blessed as Jeff IS my local dealer. His shop is only 3 miles from my home. I have been quilting since 2001 and as a mask maker for the past year I can tell you that my machine just FROZE and I thought oh Lord, I have ruined my machine. (17 yo Janome Memory Craft 6500)! Jeff took it to the back and came back out with it a few minutes later and said "you mask makers need to remember to oil your machines"...It runs like new again. I have taken classes at Hi Fashion and been to a few trunk shows. Now saving for a new Bernina!! Grand Junction suffered from an oil bust in the early 80's and this was like a ghost town. Now we are over 100,000 and Jeff is still here. That itself tells you the quality of his character and work! I love your you tube channel Karen! I never miss and re-watch several (color theory). Thank you for your diversity is sharing so much with all of us sewers.
Oh this is fabulous! I discovered Bernina Jeff a while ago and quickly began to follow him. I LOVE his content. Love that you have discovered him as well..
I accidentally discovered him during covid shut down. He is amazing and enjoy his honest tips. I purchased some of his tools and ittle oilers. I love the round screw driver of his. its the best for me because regular ones just don't work well for me. I also love the tiny "q-tips" . I learned so much. I have a 930 Electric one that a very good friend gave me - my first ever Bernina and his information on Berninas is great. However i mostly use Brother and Babylock - and his information is still useful!!
Hello Karen! I love Bernina Jeff's videos. I have learned so much about my Bernina from him. I saw his video on the BSR mat thingy. I want it because I have clumsy/arthritic fingers and find it hard to plug my little connector into the port. Keep up with the great interviews.
I’m fortunate enough to live in Grand Junction and get to shop @ Hi Fashion and have my Janome serviced by Jeff, which I just took in in April! Enjoyed the interview, as I was not aware he had started a UA-cam channel! Thanks Karen, as always! 😊💜
Loved the interview, I found Bernina Jeff on UA-cam some while ago, the Bernina dealers are so knowlegable and never too busy to help! I am in the UK and have received free classes from both the main dealer in London and also my dealer David Drummond in Edinburgh, invaluable!
Great interview, Karen. I have been subscribed to Bernina Jeff for a while now. I bought a Bernina 435 (their 75th Anniversary edition) because my sister had had such good luck with her old Bernina. I also bought the embroidery module for the 435 but have never taken it out of the box. My Bernina dealership is about 165 miles away and they are super knowledgeable and helpful. Thank goodness they have the next generation working with them in the service department. Now I have to see how far I am from Grand Junction ;) .
Just discovered your videos and Bernina Jeff's. I'm so happy that you are both making videos -- they are so helpful. I've learned a lot from you both already. Thank you!
Most enjoyable interview! I discovered Bernina Jeff yesterday when I had the 'blue screen of death" come up on my Bernina 720 ... his calm and informative approach is just wonderful!!!
My mother owned the Bernina Sewing Center in the late 70’s/early 80’s in Grand Junction, when Mesa County lost the oil shale Industry and became the most depressed county in the nation. Broke her heart to give up the most liquid business she had. I still sew on her 930 and am a fan of Karen Brown. I felt real nostalgic watching this video. Thank you Jeff for your business!
If it weren't for the bust I would have gotten a new machine in '85. As you know it was a challenge for some of us to find full time work and no one was really getting ahead. Your mother was a delightful person. Even though I couldn't afford a machine, I went there for thread, needles, etc. My best friend bought a Bernina from your mother and still uses it. Jeff has done right by the Bernina name. Your mother would be happy about that.
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts I need to subscribe. I was impressed when you said you use a 910. I thought I was the only one with a 910, a gift from my folks for college graduation. It seems to have a short in its motor that the Sterling CO dealer can’t fix ☹️. But the 930 I inherited works great.
Jeff is awesome! Hi fashion was my quilt store for 15 years! Before I moved to Texas, every time I go back to grand junction I always stop by and say hello. They are family. I still send Jeff questions and ask for advice. He is always so willing to help. He is awesome!!!
Love Bernina Jeff. While looking for 'how to' on my new B570 last summer I found his tips and I've shared them with my Bernie friends. I'm so happy Jeff is out there for us who are not close to our dealer.
Great guest , I have watched him so many times . Ordered his oil , bottle and needle holder. I hope I live long enough to go to his shop. He is so right about getting your machine from local dealer . Have to mention my dealer , its Quilt Beginnings in Dublin , Ohio, They also give good tutorials on You Tube with Caity and Pam.
I’m From Columbus too, QB is my store too. Great people and lots of great fabric. I agree their UA-cam videos are wonderful..Very informative also. Found Bernina Jeff about a month ago and have purchased the oil, needle holder, extra thread cutter and tweezers.. Don’t know how I lived without them.. Attached the Wonder Clip on the back of my 790- no more flying thread.. Great tips.
That's so fabulous that Jeff is giving us all his knowledge about sewing and machines through UA-cam. So much of this information is a lost art for our younger people who were not educated by the Mom or a family member as they grew up. Or even in school at Home Ec. Very few kids are being educated on basic stuff like this and way too much education is centered around technology or accessing it for the career they decide to go into. Thanks for the interview with Jeff.
I had a sewing machine that had the option of stopping with the needle in the DOWN position. I took this for granted when I bought a new machine and now regret I don't have that wonderful feature anymore!
What a wonderful interview and man. So nice that he could help so many throughout the pandemic. I can't wait to watch some of his videos. Karen you are a natural at interviewing. Great guest and great questions. Thank you for all you do for us quilters. I've learned so much from you. 🙂
Hi I don't do comments very often but I have been following you and Jeff for afew months now. It is great to see you together.I have learnt so much from you and Jeff. Thank you,for sharing your knowledge 😊
I may have turned into a machine collector over time. My favorite machine is my first Bernina, a 730 Record (that has recently been restored). I also own a newer Bernina, B330, a Singer 99k from 1917 and a Singer Featherweight that is my most recent acquisition. I sew garments and quilts and think this all got started from my grandfather who was a garment cutter after WW II who taught me to cut fabric for doll clothes. Loved this episode!
Omg have been seeing over fifty years. Did not know I could change the screw on my bobbin for tension. Just remember being told not to mess with. This has been an awesome video. Thank you both.
I was told to get an extra bobbin case for that, never to mess with factory settings as you'll never get it back right. The extra case would not be factory set so it didn't matter with it.
My mother taught me a valuable tidbit about this. She said that 1/4 of a turn on that bobbin screw what a big amount, so turn it carefully. It has helped many times. LOL that was over 50 years ago. @@charlottekelly4204
Great interview. Tips were great. Must check his u-tube videos. Was great to hear how he diversified at the start of the pandemic and made so many masks. Great job.👍🇦🇺
Jeff is my dealer. Love him. Miss the 18,000 square foot store. He had a sale every November for a week where all quilting cotton was 10% off. The new smaller store is full of wonderful treasures. Looking forward to next May
I have Vikings, a Janome and of course my beloved Featherweight, but I have learned so much from this interview! I have to agree about finding a dealer who will be able to support your purchase - no one will love a machine that they can’t use easily.
Enjoyed the interview. I found Bernina Jeff during Clovis pandemic. I learn so much and watch several twice. I am retiring in September. I think I need to make my retirement trip a “Me Trip” from Va to Colorado next May to his retreat.
Holy Smokes! Bernina Jeff is my machine mechanic!!! He is a good man and very helpful to me and my Gunnison Middle School. Thank you Jeff! And I just dropped off 9 machines and I live just over two hours away. See you in a month Jeff! I do a whole humans-as-parts lesson on how the machine is threaded, how it does the sewing, and how the thread goes through the tension. We use a 4 lb yarn ball as the upper thread and a 3 in yarn ball as the bobbin. It is very effective in helping students see how it all works. I tell my students to not touch tension in class but too explain that tension can be adjusted on projects sometimes.
So I go to work this morning at the local Bernina dealer & quilt store and told one of the other women about Bernina Jeff, and she said, "I saw that video too!!"
Thank you for your interviews with people of interest to quilters! I have learned so much from watching your videos. I have especially enjoyed the videos that encourage me to "just get it done"!
Great interview!!! I can’t wait to start following him and watching his videos. Thanks Karen!!! You always bring us such great informations with your Quilt circles! ❤️
Thank you for this interview - I still own my 910 and Artista 180 in addition to my new 770QE E. I plan to subscribe to Bernina Jeff and get those machines out for some “maintenance”. What a wonderful man to share his knowledge at such a much needed time.
I live in Grand Junction and Jeff has been invaluable in keeping my Bernini in good working order. You can trust what he tells you and is always very helpful. What a great interview.
Thank you Karen 💕 Makes me want to buy a Bernina. Glad you're taking time for yourself. I bought a timer like yours and when it came, my husband took it to use. lol. I said, "hey, you bought a timer just like the one I bought." He gave it to me. lol
Dear Karen, I'm a sewist all the way from Pakistan, I bought a Bernina 770qe from Dubai several years ago. After a couple of years I had a problem of the bobbin case getting stuck in the hook, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't detach it from the hook, obviously it meant no sewing till the matter got resolved. I had to send the hook with the bobbin case stuck with it to my dealer in Dubai (Mala is the dealer and the sole agent for Bernina there and a darling indeed) and she helped me replace the hook but I had to buy the bobbin case. Well just a couple of months ago the same fiasco happened again and guess who came to rescue? Bernina Jeff !! He has a video on how to dislodge the bobbin case from the hook. It took seconds to fix the problem. You cannot imagine my relief because Dubai was not an option in times of covid and I did not want to spend incredible amounts of money in transporting the pieces to and fro. I even wrote to thank Bernina Jeff in the comments of that video. Said all that, thank you for this interview. I absolutely love watching your videos. They are precise, well thought out and fantastically executed. Many many thanks for your wonderful input in my life. Your son is in my prayers always. One more thing, please make a video on how to make videos for UA-cam of your own. I'm 52 years old, thinking of starting a quality, patchwork channel in my own language, but do not know the first thing about video production. I admire the way you use the computer images to explain piecing combinations and layouts etc. Fantastic work.
I love Bernina Jeff’s videos! So informative and helpful 🎉

Was that with Gary Carter?
I wish Bernina Jeff could have given more tips and tricks. Great choice Karen!
OMG!!! My first Bernina was the 1130 and I have a 750 but still love my 1130.
You have both inspired me to go into the garage and get out my mum’s Bernina . Thank you
I own a Viking machine and love it because at the time I was not familiar with Bernina
What a wonderful interview and man. So nice that he could help so many throughout the pandemic. I can't wait to watch some of his videos. Karen you are a natural at interviewing. Great guest and great questions. Thank you for all you do for us quilters. I've learned so much from you. 🙂
Awesome interview!! Thank you, Karen and Jeff! Love the retreat idea!!!!🙏
Bernina Jeff is such a wonderful teacher.
I discovered Bernina Jeff during the pandemic, too. He’s awesome. I enjoyed this video to get to know him more. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the information
I loved that Bernina Jeff referenced NH in his example of finding a reputable dealer, as that is where I live. Great interview! Thank you Karen🧵
What a great interview!!! Two of my favorite You Tubers chatting together!!!
Looking forward to next May
I think I remember some parking lot fabric sales at the old big store. That was a great place!
Im watching this but I just bought the Husqvarna Viking Epic. This guy is very interesting.
Whenever I have a question about my Bernina I always check his channel
I have Vikings, a Janome and of course my beloved Featherweight, but I have learned so much from this interview! I have to agree about finding a dealer who will be able to support your purchase - no one will love a machine that they can’t use easily.
I LOVE THIS!!! THANK YOU!
Thank you for all the interviews you do. They are wonderful
Wow! What a humble and knowledgeable guy! I've seen some of his work on a UA-cam video and he is also an AMAZINGLY talented guy! Thanks, again, Karen.
Thank you for your interviews with people of interest to quilters! I have learned so much from watching your videos. I have especially enjoyed the videos that encourage me to "just get it done"!
I’m glad you took a break - I went back to work temporarily- am soooo looking forward to binge watching your videos!!!
I really enjoyed this interview with Bernina Jeff. Bless him for organizing mass masking construction! I will check out his videos!
Fun sew chat and I already follow Bernina Jeff and he is awesome! Thanks for posting this!
I live in Grand Junction and Jeff has been invaluable in keeping my Bernini in good working order. You can trust what he tells you and is always very helpful. What a great interview.
Thank you Karen 💕 Makes me want to buy a Bernina. Glad you're taking time for yourself. I bought a timer like yours and when it came, my husband took it to use. lol. I said, "hey, you bought a timer just like the one I bought." He gave it to me. lol
Excellent video, thank you for sharing!!!
