No dish deserves a zero unless it’s undercooked (raw) or overcooked (burned). If you don’t like it then don’t eat it... just avoid insulting other dishes to an extent where people can get hurt or offended.

This could possibly mean that her tastebuds are more sensitive than others (yes, this could happen due to gene regulation). Which in turn means that she probably needs less of the seasonings to be able to taste the details of her food.

I could consider this a proper explanation. I remember her mac and cheese is actually nicely baked, it got so much brown bit and the texture looks actually quite nice, though it's a bit dry. I don't think it's "inedible" in any way, to be serious. Leony's dishes look very neat and appetizing, to be honest.
I've been a culinary student for years so clearly I know what I'm talking about. the browning on the mac and cheese deserves a standing ovation. it simply gives away A LOT MORE FLAVOUR than some of those bland looking ones 🤷🏻♀️

I'm glad that Shauntelle was disqualified, and I'm glad that Buzzfeed caught on to her trying to cheat by giving unfair ratings.I feel like she gives other people's dishes zeroes so that her food will receive better ratings than everyone else's. The last time that she won a competition was because she scored one of the other lady's food a zero, even though everyone else gave it a decent rating. That other lady would have won if Shauntelle had rated her fairly.
Don't know why they just don't bring her back. We've had enough of her negativity. Nasty personality that one.

I do not know the other videos with her, but in this case here I thought it could be, that there is coriander in the dish, which for some people genetically tast like soap and she just did not know this herself and so she thougt it's the dish...
@@aminoir4281 I am one of those people that get's a soapy flavor from coriander/cilantro. Even a little bit is VERY noticeable in a dish for me. That said, I would still never rate somebody else's dish a zero. I'd also have a hard time believing she doesn't know about coriander as a Caribbean person.

Why on earth have Shauntelle again?? All she does is insult peoples dishes, and more to the point by her statement doesn't know that Rice and peas are traditionally made with other "peas" in particular GUNGO/PIGEON PEAS!! Other non anglophone countries in the Caribbean, for example Puerto Rico/Cuba/Haiti have rice dishes which use pigeon peas/other beans as their version of "Rice and Peas" ! Mek har gweh!! Crosses!!

3:42 "it tastes like soap" I know EXACTLY what she's talking about. Coconut are very versatile fruit. They are used to make soap but also used for cooking. If you use the wrong grade of coconut oil once it hits a certain temperature it gets a soapy smell/taste. You have to buy coconut oil that is made for cooking. My mom is an excellent cook but she started using a certain coconut oil and it would ruin all her dishes for me. I googled it and learned why. It doesn't happen with all of them but some.
Shauntelle is so critical and got so much to say and her rice and peas looks the worst. My grandma would box me if I give her some rice and peas that looked like that.

you guys should change the ranking system to where they have to rank the dishes either first (1), second (2) or third (3) so a 1, 2, or 3 and then just add the scores so that the person with the lowest score wins and there's less unfair scoring.

I need to see the deeper purple colour from the red kidney bean. They need to boil the kidney peas until dem soft. Then add coconut milk or the hard version and add spring onion , scotch bonnet, thyme. Then add the rice. But take the scotch bonnet out before it buss.

You can’t really replace coconut as the flavour is distinctive. You can still make the dish without coconut but be sure to add plenty of fresh seasonings and perhaps stock. Won’t be exactly the same though.

It's so interesting to see how different Caribbean countries cook. In Guyana, when you mix the peas and rice together(in the same pot), it's called cook-up rice.
Our peas stew and rice is cooked separately. We use black-eyed peas, red-eyed peas, pigeon peas and even beans. Coconut milk and meat is a muss
