Great great clip ! With the usual so much appreciated satirical comments..and the lack of virus hype makes the total even better..one question : how is their booking system..website..app ? I tried to book China Airlines and just couldn't get through the hassle
I love China Eastern Airlines. I've flown with them twice from Toronto to Manila. And to Cebu ( Philippines. ) with the layover in Shanghai. Mind you Economy Class. But still loved it.
I just took a flight from Taipei to Houston, TX last Sunday and there were twin boys sitting ahead of me in Business Class. Being a dad myself I didn't fee; I had a right to complain. Yes, they cried but surprisingly little. The other 9 month old in the back of the Business Class cabin was much more vocal . :-) . The Sony Noise Cancelling headsets are EXCELLENT! I BARELY heard the twins in front of me and didn't hear the 3rd baby until I had to get up to stretch. Highly recommend the Sony MDRZX110 Noise Cancelling Headphones!! Awesome videos Scott! I found your channel by chance and have become a loyal fan. Always looking forward to your videos and reviews!
I travel quite frequently Europe - China with Eastern China in Business Class (Pre-corona). (6 times a yearI have travelled in Economy too a couple of times with them. I have to say that I do not have major complaints! The service sometimes is a bit lacking, major due to language problems, but nothing serious. When the language works, the service is great! The food is really good, and the drinks and snacks available really serves my needs. The seats, entertainmentsystem and aminities is great. The Wifi isn't always the best, and since it is a Chineese company, some pages is simply out of bonds... (facebook, Google etc). Also, on my route (Amsterdam - Shanghai) there is actually the cabins in business. You can close a sliding door and really have your own personal space! The best! That actually makes up for any other issues :-) And, Eastern China is very cost competative compared to many others.
Used to fly this flight back in the 90's on MD-11. No first class. Business class was 8 rows (kind of like today's premium economy), with smoking allowed in rows 6-8. The plane could barely fly.
Nice review. I've flown China Eastern in both Econ & Biz class SFO-PVG and continuing to SE Asia. Decent enough airline. I tend to choose the Chinese food since I figure they'd do a better job with it. Also, the one thing I dislike is their flight times from SE Asia which are in the wee hours of the morning ~2am with long layovers in PVG. However, they typically have the lowest airfares which is why I chose them.
Hey, man, don't knock the automated boarding. We were flying Prem Econ from Munich back to Canada (Lufthansa) after new years - as we scanned at the automated boarding there was a blue light, a whirring noise and it printed out a small printout saying "New Seat - Business Class 5A" Thanks Lufthansa - a lovely belated Xmas gift.
I just did a 11 hour economy trip using China Eastern and I thought the Airline was great. food was fine, got plently of drinks throughout and even on the 2 hour transfer flight you got a meal. The only thing lacking is the entertainment selection (Both English and chinese selections) however my Ipad covered that.
Solid review. China Eastern’s business class cabin is very modern. I always try and stay away from chicken in the air. It just doesn’t work well up there lol. I will say that the KAL Lounge at LAX is not “arguably the best lounge” there. There are much better lounges at LAX such as the Qantas First Class Lounge, OneWorld Business Class Lounge, and the American Airlines Flagship Lounge with Flagship First Dining. Granted, you wouldn’t have access to those lounges while flying China Eastern.
No….I wouldn’t. I don’t have tons of money and I can’t justify the expense. I always fly the cheap seats in the back. Economy. For all my long haul or ultra-long haul flights in the world. I’ve never flown first class/business class. I really like China Eastern and Cathay Pacific. And I love the Triple 7 aircraft. But I will never fly first class/business class. Economy is just fine for me, and easier on my wallet.
6:38 to answer that: certainly everyone has the right to fly, even babies, BUT: on a 14.5 hour flight, there should be options to have a flight without children younger than 10 years of age! I am paying Business Class, sometimes even First Class prices to have comfort, style AND silence! I would really be pissed if there would be a crying baby (or maybe even more) in the cabin!
Nice Video!!!! I was studied in LA for college, and always go LAX to travel back Shanghai. I think the lounge was okay... but the service is pretty nice !! Keep it up!!!
I have flown with China Southern, China Eastern, Xiemen Air, and was treated exceptionally well on all. They have young, beautiful stewardi also if you like that.
I fly on CE J class a lot and I enjoyed your review. I prefer their 8 and 9 seats as they are more private and you’re less likely going to hear someone snore extremely loud when you’re sleeping lol
I flew MU from PVG to JFK in F a few years back, their inflight meals were terrible, but inflight service was MUCH BETTER than that of Cathay. Then I flew more in F with QF, BA, CX, JL… MU still has the BEST service. CX was the worst, QF is comfortable and relaxed as always, BA is similar with more attention to details, and JL has the fake smile service, which ticks me in all the wrong boxes. Japanese service was severely overrated somehow, the movie “Lost in Translation” perfectly illustrates how I feel about the whole fake hospitality thingy - not my cup of tea. I won’t hesitate to fly MU again. Bad reviews don’t matter much as I can write a few terrible reviews flying JL in F & J, but overall they were not that bad, just uncomfortable.
Of course. Try making the same trip regularly in economy. Anybody can do a trip of just about any length in business or better. But even in economy, just about any mainland Chinese airline is better for international than any US airline, in my experience.
Oh by the way the reason they might call it bad is because the hard product is very inconsistent, while ur enjoy ur leather seat there, I still take the old blue ish seats in my flight from Hangzhou (near Shanghai, I know, nobody knows that unless I say Shanghai) to Sydney
I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking this lol. Qantas First Class Lounge, OneWorld Business Class Lounge, and AA’s Flagship Lounge with Flagship First Dining are all much better.
Most flight attendants will offer you alternative if there is a problem with a meal in Business Class. I have always get mine corrected and sometimes it just simply isn't enough to eat since at times my Indian meal turns out to be very French portion. You should have say something and ask the purser. This is a test of the level of their customer service.
Honestly, I missed China Eastern. Been a customer since 2018, from Cebu to San Francisco. Cheapest fares available for only $420 ++ roundtrip with food and drinks!!!! Beat that.
You are correct. I recently did 6 flights with them and they were better than what the internet gave them credit for. Great trip report. I give you 10 wiener points for you sense of humour.
Airplane socks! cool, we will be monitoring SANspotter Scott's health for the next week or so. You would think someone would have at least dumped those wilting flowers in the lav.
If you are flying an international flight on a Skyteam carrier (either with a business class tix or Delta Gold Medallion status and above) out of LAX, it's more worth it to take the complimentary Delta's terminal connector and go to the Sky Club in T2. The KAL Lounge is par, which is the reason why I avoid it and take the trip to T2.
Ataro Shoji-Vallin If ur flight is from TBIT, how can u pass the custom into T2? TBIT does connect to the T4~ T7 but rather long walk and has only the Alaska Lounge & T6, BTW.

As always great seeing you videos. I actually just made my decision between China Eastern and Asiana Business class for my flight to BKK in 2 moths; I went with Asiana
Scott, now that you ticked off EJ and RYR from your bucket list, you might want to incorporate Wizz into your itinerary someday. Also, it's worth checking out some extraordinary destinations in and out of Budapest, while we're at it. But maybe I just want to hear you talk crap about Hungarian flight products / airports - we Hungarians do that all the time, it'd be an honour if you joined in on the choir.
Information I received in the recent past is that China Eastern preformed a "relaunch" in 2018/2019. So, it should be better. Sorry, confused... You are flying China Eastern but went to "Korean Air Lounge"?
For business class I would have to say it was inconsistent. Some good points and some real missteps. There are other airlines that fly to Asia with a bit more class.
I’ve flown this airline and there are valid complaints . 1. Like all mainland carriers you will find significant language barriers that will impact service levels. They simply aren’t as good as EVA or JAL. It’s unlikely they ever will be.
Nice to see an unbiased review of China Eastern. By no means they're that great, but other reviewers have let passed-around gossip and badmouthing influence their reviews of CE. Strange, the salmon dish in the end wasn't on the breakfast menu. It didn't look like a mid-flight snack either, anyway! The first meal didn't look too convincing, except on the menu. The seats in business class look superb and comfortable.
To be honest now this business class is like the mid range level product from China eastern, the A350 has a suite for business class. And you may try it later on once the pandemic is over (well pretty much over in China anyways ;) )
