Yes! More coverage of Korean EVs! E-GMP is great of course but the Niro EV, Kona EV don’t get enough time in the spotlight on this channel. I drive a canadian 2021 Soul EV 64 kWh, those a really great EVs!
Yay, please make a couple of videos in the new Niro! I bought one just a few weeks ago and it looks like you're in the lower trim. I think the US just gets 2 trims, Wind and Wave, Wind being the lower.
I test drove a new Niro EV earlier this year and really liked it a lot. The lack of power was a bit disappointing but everything else I thought was great. Lack of power having just recently test drove the EV6 & HI5 but compared to pretty much any other normal car I'd say it was fine
Last Fall, I rented a "Managers Special" from Budget in Atlanta. It was NOT an EV, but an older, somewhat threadbare VW Jetta wagon. It ran well, but the interior had some stains and it actually had some dents on the car. But everything worked well, and it was 30% less than their usual rental prices, so it was okay, even good. Thanks for the information about Hertz at LAX. I live 8 miles away, so now I know where to go to rent a faster charging EV than my Bolt EUV for out of town trips.
I did the ev managers special in the Detroit area a few weeks ago while my car was in the shop. Got a bolt For a week for 240. Actually made me really like the bolt for the money. It rides much better then a model 3.
1. the beginning of the video in Colorado surprised me. I always envisioned Colorado as very mountainous. 2. saw that Hertz GT-H Mustang painted in black and gold. I know it isn't an EV, but want one. 3. rented the previous generation Kia Niro EV three years ago for a month, while my 1999 Lexus SC was being painted. While small, it was a decent car and convinced me I could go EV. Do not trust Hyundai/Kia longevity. The new one looks good. The center screen is pretty cool. I remember the interface as being very useful.
As a Bolt driver, I think a Bolt is absolutely the best value for your money in terms of an EV to own. But, if I were renting an EV, I would absolutely go for a Tesla. They're cheap to rent (a model 3 costs about the same as a compact gas car), and even if you're just driving around town, you'll still appreciate the supercharger access when charging the car at the end of the trip. After all, the last thing you want to be doing when you've got a plane to catch is waiting in line to charge the car at a half-functional Electrify America. And if your car is a Bolt and you have to charge to 80% to reach the rental office at 70%, it's even worse. I personally don't see what the point is in having CCS vehicles in the rental fleet at all - at least with the current charging situation. As a rental company, Hertz has to deal with lots and lots of customers that are used to gas cars and know next to nothing about EVs. When they find Electrify America sites full and glitchy, some will inevitably blame Hertz and write bad reviews. People that don't know to leave themselves a buffer in case a charger is down may even get themselves stranded somewhere, increasing the load on Hertz's roadside assistance service. Simply put, a mass market EV rental service needs the charging system to be idiot-proof, and the closest to an idiot-proof option that currently exists is to rent out Teslas and tell customers to use the superchargers.
A deal-breaker for me picking a used Niro over a used EUV was headroom in the back. I’m 6’4” and I fit in the back of the Niro but not the EUV. I found official rear headroom specs to be very inconsistent and picked the Niro after sitting in several EVs.
I just rented a Kia Niro EV here in New York for the weekend, also through Hertz! Not particularly a driver's car, but it was smooth and seamless; exactly what I was looking for a quick jaunt across state lines. I was certainly happy to get behind the wheel of my MINI Cooper SE after returning the Niro, though!
I just found out the Niro EV I ordered last October won't be available until mid-July. Originally we were promised it in May. If we get it in July it will have been a 9 month wait (during which time Tesla dropped the price of the MY below that of the Niro EV (in France anyway).
I Followed an iX out of a parking lot this AM and it’s a Really nice looking car. First one I’ve seen in the wild. It’s Far better looking than this thing, I think. I do like the roof also. The club vibe is spot on. I like it. Good choice on the Niro! It’s high on my list as a city car.
I dont like to travel but enjoy your trips. Just looking at, deciding which car got me anxious. Enjoying and waiting for more of the trip. I'd be lost in a minute!
I vote range test. Apparently this refresh is more efficient. I need proof of this. Also, interior looks way better than the Bolt, but you pay for that.
wait until they finished the Rental Hub at LAX soon, its going to be a nicer experience rather than taking a shuttle to a lot... you'll be able to take the "People Mover" to the hub.
How come you dont raint about Hertz crazy charge return pricing. I rented from Hertz and the agent has fuel at 100% then told the lady at the exit and she lowered it to 70 which car was at 84% Then look at there charge return info and is you get above 80% you have to bring back 80 or above but if you get 79 to 50% you can bring back 10% less. Very strange.....
Just did the hertz manager EV special at JAX but that was the only way to select an EV. They offered me a bolt EUV. I wish they would of had a Kona because with 4 ppl, luggage, and 185 mile drive I didn’t trust the bolt with our needs. Unfortunately they wanted to charge 2x the rate for the polestar that I paid for at LAX so we had to go with a gas car.😢
I am surprised that the iX top model would be available for "only" $115k. In Germany the price would be €150K (165USD). The XM fully spec'ed €188k ($207k).
I just booked EV manager special and wonder EV manager special guaratee the EV car? or they could offer economy class cars instead? if there's no EV cars' left or something.

Sign up for the AMEX premium rental plan and it provides collision coverage for a month, even across separate rentals in the same month. Only costs $30/mth, not per day.
I can understand the reasoning from Hertz's perspective. Before a returned car can be rented to another customer, it needs to be charged. If the rental office has only level 2's, rather than DC fast chargers, a car returned with 20% SOC is out of service for hours while it sits on the level 2. That's a non-trivial amount of lost revenue, and the fee for returning the car at less than 70% SOC is effectively compensating them for that lost revenue. Even if the Hertz office does has DC fast chargers, incentivizing people to charge the cars themselves before returning them still reduces the number of DC fast chargers they need to run the facility. It should also be noted that a requirement to return the car at 70% is much less onerous than being required to return it at 100%, and also, even if you don't the fee for not doing so is only $35, which is not the end of the world. That said, I do hope Hertz shows some grace and doesn't slap people with a $35 fine because they misjudged their energy use from charger to car return and end up returning the car at 69% instead of 70%.
@@ab-tf5fl what is the Fee for returning the car less than 70% ? is it $35 that you mention as a "fine"? I am headed to Orlando in a few weeks and really contemplating Renting a Model 3 while there. I am guessing we'll end up driving about 60 miles total.... so guessing we'll need about a total of 20kwh at most, which would be about $8.... Gas prices are going to be about the same honestly... returning it with 50% would be ideal so I don't have to take time out of our trip to go charge it or stop somewhere to charge it.... I know it probably only would require about 10-15 minutes, but just don't want to.
