What do you do for upkeep? Just got a pair on sale and want to try to make them last. I heard they can build up moisture and possibly damage the internals. Have you been able to prevent that?
@@cwrager84 I have had mine for 3 years and they're spotless. I bought a case and put an AirTag in it. When I don't use them for more than an hour, I put them in the case. It might actually be harder now, given theres no significant discounts on the new market and the used market has nore demand and more older pairs floating around than it did 2 years ago.
Actually after looking around the ebay market just now I found several listings that i would consider good, and theyre all at or around 300. So it looks like these are definitely easier to shop for than 2 years ago.

I bought a pair for $592 (taxes) and returned them the following day. Why? Well Best buy had them for 70 dollars off, but my friend had a pair that she never wore because of the weight and sold them to me for $250.00. I got lucky.. If they come out with a refresh, now I won't feel bad purchasing the new ones.
On sale at Amazon $449.00 not a bad got a pair very happy with the purchase. Got some clear covers for aluminum areas of the speakers, I used my Max for music and movies. The best part traveling on the airplane, the noise canceling is the best. I don’t care if Apple puts a new model, I am enjoying my Max.
This is the best review I’ve come across! You’ve convinced me to get a pair. You talked about stuff needed to know like how they fit around your ear rather then smashing them and also how they aren’t as sweaty as others.
Good vlog; however, you can tell the difference in audio very easily. Try listening on iPhone various quality/volume, then try on higher quality upstream. A simple A/B with the iPad/iPhone has different results. The reason that Apple can keep the form for 3 years is because of the technology in an Apple versus a regular headphone : the firmware can be easily updated. When new ground is broken from a form factor, Apple will be ready to pioneer it.
What about the weird case and lack of an off button? I don’t own a pair but my memory is that those were both issues folks had with the Airpods Max. I’m going to continue waiting because I can’t get rid of lightning ports fast enough.
Theres good hardcases for 25 dollars. I have one myself tho i never use iit. As for the offswitch, If you go into the findmy settings and set your house as a safe location, then the idle battery drain drops to bout 10% per 24hrs. Since i use them daily for hours at a time, that idle drain doesnt bother me. They dont die even with 2 days of heavy use, but i usually charge every other day so theyre never on low battery.

I loved mine. Until two months after Apple Care was no longer. The mesh gave in and the metal rested on my head causing unbearable pain. I contacted Apple and they wanted $325 to replace the headband. No other option. The third- party silicon band and other products didn't help either. I sold them for $200 and purchased Bose. Not the same thing but at least they don't hurt my head.
@@RiqMoran no. The mesh never broke. It got loose. For about two years it was fine. Practically unchanged. Then, it started looking a tad wavy just like the one in the video. A couple of months later, it was as loose as a piece of cloth. I tried using the silicon adapter, both the one that wraps the headband and the one you insert with pressure. Nothing worked.
I have the Airpods Max lightning and they are still great! Great sound, ANC and works so well in the Apple ecosystem. Still worth a pick-up in my opinion. I'm looking forward to the next iteration but these are performing just fine.
If you have them, you could try buying the apple dongle and cable to use them wired. They are able to handle up to 24/48 and do sound noticeably more detailed. Only drawback is that spatial audio and accessibility settings are disabled while wired. So if you enjoy spatial audio or have EQ'd your pair with an audiogram, thats unfortunately disabled while wired and you basically get the fresh out of the box EQ.
the biggest change they need to make / could potentially make is LIGHTER BUILD!!! dealbreak for these compared to the competition is that these are far too heavy to use for working out or full days of work
Problem is the difference between H1 & H2 chip. There is a significant improvement between the two along with those additional features. As promptly covered we might get Hi-Res Lossless support given that AirPods Pro 2 supports lossless audio via Vision Pro. Above all USB-C!! its better to wait unless you've someone to pass this over. Note: Listening to lossless audio via dedicated DAC/AMP is a big difference. If we get an in-built DAC like we get in Focal or B&W, then we have a wired headphones killer. So I feel its better wait.
I’ve been battling with myself to wait for the next version for couple years now, i want to use them for traveling and whenever i want. But i’m loosing it😅 Like i said i want to use it on the plane too watch and listen to music/movies, and i’m traveling in 4 weeks, now i have to decide in less than 3 weeks to get it anyway or heading for a Sony version. But i kinda dislike the plastic feel 😅 and who knows when Apple is gonna release newer version of Airpods Max. Any suggestions ?
Hi i know I’m a little bit late i love mine soo much! But I do have a small question dose anyone know were i can buy clear cups for the outside of the headphones ?
What a well balanced and well thought out review. I have a pair coming today and I just have the next 14 days to decide wether to return or keep based on my own experience.
Id say buy some, they are so good! I doubt they’ll release a new version so soon without having made any announcements yet. maybe in Dec but no way in Sep, but I doubt they’ll even come out tbh
One of all-time favorite Apple purchases! I used to teach at a private school, and the cafeteria was right next to my classroom. I’d use lunch period to fine tune my lesson plans and grade papers, but the unbearable cacophony of ravenous elementary students was quite the distraction! With my trusty AirPods Max, however, all it took was one, magical press of the noise cancellation button to transform the huge din into blissful silence! I absolutely love them and will keep using them daily for as long as possible!
This is funny I finally broke down and bought the max after waiting and waiting for usbc and ended up returning them for the Sony xm5s and couldn’t be happier. AirPods Max was just too much for the value , too heavy , stupid case, no power button and lightning charging got old fast. I was scared to wear them in the gym. That being said I loved the sound balance they did a good job there but the sonys just made more since for me.
My biggest reservation is the lack of a decent case. I've been ready to buy for a long time, but I want the reassurance that my expensive headphones come with a protective case.
from how popular these have become its very unlikely that apple will change the design, so really the only reason you would wait is for either the updated software or the USB C change. either way I agree and there is no time like the preset to pick one up.
I had to sell mine due to condensation so unless Apple fix this issue in a Gen 2, I don't see myself ever having another pair despite how great the features and sound are.
Best design. The plastic “premium” headphones suck. The connection issues and lack of on/off switch are problems. I’ve returned 3 or 4 pairs under warrantee. The 2.0 upgrade, assuming it has upgraded chip Bluetooth and on/off will be my new daily and the ones I have will become backups.
I tried the AirPods Max, in the Apple Store. they're honestly not that great sounding headphones. I cannot seem to see myself pay that much for those pair. I however done my research and gone with the Sony WH1000XM4s. IMO the Sony XM4s are great sounding headphones for music, you can hear the mids, lows and highs, better than the beats and AirPods Max. the Bass is just right amount, sounds so good I can adjust the sound and Sony's good preset how you want. It's better than the apple preset equalizers. Hell of a lot better. but I still love the AirPod Pros and AirPods 2nd gen.
When you then on the highest audio quality/ dolby atmos.. its soooo impressive! But the design like not being able to fold or turn these off need to be sorted
2nd gen is rumored to be there by the end of 2024, more than for improved sound quality i would be looking forward to better chip, FINALLY AN ADAPTIVE MODE, i use it all the time on in-ear ones, and maybe some update to spacial audio, some even better tracking or something
I have no regrets just purchased and used them on a long haul flight and found them more comfortable than Bose QC over the ears which get warm and are tighter after a few hours it really makes a difference - the noise canceling is better than Bose too because no hissing sound - I agree with most of what this says. I got some at Best Buy and they did not work properly I had several issues, so I returned and paid the extra $70 at Apple with peace of mind. I suspect the Best Buy were refurbished by Apple and sold as new, Best Buy told me they were brand new direct from Apple and I believe them, maybe it was just a defective item but I did not want to take a chance. I would not trust Amazon either. If the next APM's come out soon and are much better it will be easy to sell these purchased from Apple still under warranty to fund the new version. That's what many do when upgrading their Iphones so why not for headphones?
The latest release is a total cop out. No way I’m spending 500 quid when a real update could be within a year away. USBC and a colour makeover, do me a favour apple after 4 years this is the best you could do in a highly competitive market!
Don't fomo, if you want them, just buy them. Don't overthink too much. Btw, the small (rumored) changes, are worth nothing to me if not for USB C, but everyone in the Apple universe charged with Lightning for literally years...
I’m waiting for the next generation of AirPods Max and I will sell my first generation AirPods Max. It’s unfortunate that they don’t charge with MagSafe, like AirPods Pro 2.
I still have an iPhone 12 Pro and an iPad Pro, bought during Covid, which I only did because my iPad Air stopped working properly after being dropped when boarding the ferry at Dublin Port and I needed an iPhone for the Irish Covid vaccine passports - these iPods are still too expensive for me to consider buying here in the U.K. and that is based on advice given to me by staff in the Apple Stores here in the U.K. - based on their advice, I still have not upgraded my iPhone or my iPad Pro - travelling frequently between where I live in the U.K. and my family in Ireland, there are way cheaper alternatives out there that work perfectly well with the iPad and iPhone and allow you to have two devices connected via Bluetooth at the same time, such as both your iPad and your iPhone
I don't really care about the USB-C, I recently got an Iphone 13 pro max, which uses lightning. and im prob not gonna get a new phone for quite a while as the 13 pro max's are amazing
I love My airpod max when they actually wanna work. He's sugar coating it like a fan boy. They are good headphones but they have a condensation issue and connection issues as well. And they get dirty quick so you have to wash them like twice a month.
I’ve had mine from day one part from the cups need cleaning sometimes my silver ones still look brand new I would buy them again tomorrow if my broke down because we are coming up to 4 years with out a upgrade to the second generation which is very unlikely Apple so I don’t think new ones will come anytime soon if at all
I have just went to a store to try the AirPods Max on my head for the first time, and holy shit are they HEAVY. Like someone place a brick on my head. I cannot comprehend how people wear them willingly. It took me a minute to realise that I am not gonna buy them
Well, Apple showed us! New colors in a USB-C port. I want a pair overhead earphones on my Apple TV that basically will mean I don’t need a stereo. I have AirPod Pro twos and the same quality is just kind of garbage. I have environmental Noise so if I can do it with headphones, their noise canceling instead of speakers, I won’t have to turn off like my Dehumidifier when I’m watching TV. It was crap update, no new tech, but Costco who is selling them about $100 cheaper than Apple dropped theirs by another $50 and so I will give them a try because I’ve already tried the XM5 and the quite comfort. The Sony’s were changing the volume to 3/4 full volume some of the time I came back from pausing, my PTSD didn’t like that. The Bowes on the other hand, click out, like they make no sound, for a fraction of a second periodically and my ASD didn’t like that. I’m in apple ecosystem, i’ll give the max a try and since it’s through Costco, they will actually take returns, which is much better than Best Buy who says ewww that’s touched your flesh
“The headphones did not receive Apple's H2 chip that debuted in the AirPods Pro 2 a few years ago, meaning that they will continue to miss out on Adaptive Audio features, and there are no improvements to active noise cancellation either.” 21 hours ago
I have a number of quality lightning cables from Apple fan so doesn’t matter compared to $150 price difference. $779 plus $79 apple care [$858] vs $578.49 and $59.99 for applecare [$638.48]. $219.52 price difference now that I’ve done the math.
Thinking about getting these now that they have USB-C. I was hoping they would come out with some new features considering those headphones are now four years old. But they still seem good. I would be switching from Sony headphones.
Said I wasn’t buying cause price ain’t worth it compared to other options , I folded and recently got one 2 weeks ago not upset at all. Does that mean they’re worth $550? No but I love em and imma just trade these in or sell when 2nd gen drop.

from how popular these have become its very unlikely that apple will change the design, so really the only reason you would wait is for either the updated software or the USB C change. either way I agree and there is no time like the preset to pick one up.
I’m soooooo glad you feel my pain! Thank you for making this videos it’s therapy
I always wanted a pair but considering it is 4 years old now, I have been waiting for the new one forever
The upgrade that is not an upgrade a couple of new coolers and usb C that's all
I’m hoping the new ones drop so these go down in price. Ik they’ll probably discontinue these but I’m hoping to find them elsewhere.
I had to sell mine due to condensation so unless Apple fix this issue in a Gen 2, I don't see myself ever having another pair despite how great the features and sound are.
If they can reduce the form factor on the external shell, that would be awesome. These things are YUUUUGE.
2 of my AirPod max shit too bed not connecting or issue
I have the first gen and will be getting the second gen as well
You made me buy a pair today 😍
Hope you enjoy them!
Love them! No hassle when switching from different apple devices. Should have gotten my pair sooner haha@@GregsGadgets
It’s like the only Apple product I don’t have and want so bad ., but I’m not gnna buy one with lightening charger
I’ve been trying to choose between these two for the past 2 weeks. I think you’ve convinced to go with the XM4s now
When you then on the highest audio quality/ dolby atmos.. its soooo impressive! But the design like not being able to fold or turn these off need to be sorted
2nd gen is rumored to be there by the end of 2024, more than for improved sound quality i would be looking forward to better chip, FINALLY AN ADAPTIVE MODE, i use it all the time on in-ear ones, and maybe some update to spacial audio, some even better tracking or something
and maybe use titanium somewhere to make them lighter while still durable
I’m gonna wait. If I buy now and they come out with a new version I’m gonna be mad.
Needs to be smaller, lighter, USB C, better looking, a better case…then they will be the category king.
Thank you. I love my AirPods Max, I even now using them for gaming on my PS5 and Xbox.
Love HIDUPZ the way you show it! You really focus on showing off the bag. I don't think any other UA-camr can show off bags in as much detail as you.
I ended up buying the Beats Studio Pro. Close enough on the features and much more affordable. You can get them on sale for $199.
oof
What can they really even improve in the refresh? Ergonomics are quite nice and sound quality will only increase by a negligible degree
Apple should put a built-in battery life LED screen on their Airpods and headphones. Cheaper brands have done this, so why can't they do it too?
I just bit the bullet. couldn't wait any longer lmaooo.
The latest release is a total cop out. No way I’m spending 500 quid when a real update could be within a year away. USBC and a colour makeover, do me a favour apple after 4 years this is the best you could do in a highly competitive market!
Great video. You make so much sense as to why these are a great pair of headphones. Lightning port is no big deal and the case is nobiggie either.
I got lucky and bought my AirPods Max last year Cause my Best Buy had it on deal for 329.99 I just bought them
Only a few months now. Well, I waited for almost 4 years. Why not wait a little while for the next generation
I’m waiting for AirPods Max 2 and HomePods mini 2
I purchased these two weeks ago and used them twice. They’re a solid okay, AirPods Pro are more superior.
Could you make a video if it is safe to put a case on the MacBook air or pros please because this is my first MacBook that I will be buying soon
Or d brand sticker?
One problem with them, Lightning! I’m slowly getting rid of lightning
Don't fomo, if you want them, just buy them. Don't overthink too much. Btw, the small (rumored) changes, are worth nothing to me if not for USB C, but everyone in the Apple universe charged with Lightning for literally years...
I hope they add more colors anybody else suffering from rust on the magnetic ear cups?
I know this is a month old but thanks for the honest review!
I AM waiting..waiting for split screen on iPhones 😅😂
USB-C and get rid of that required case for standby mode
I love My airpod max when they actually wanna work. He's sugar coating it like a fan boy. They are good headphones but they have a condensation issue and connection issues as well. And they get dirty quick so you have to wash them like twice a month.
Make them smaller?
9:12
Nice choice of music ( stay with me)
You should definitely wait on the max 2’s if for no other reason than the original’s will be cheaper
Canadian pricing of course
Thinking about getting these now that they have USB-C. I was hoping they would come out with some new features considering those headphones are now four years old. But they still seem good. I would be switching from Sony headphones.
take it to the publisher bro
I’m too broke to buy these, 3 years and the price has not gone down
At my Best Buy it’s $300
i’ve been waiting for two year i remember wwdc 2022 waiting for airpods max 2 :(
I got some for $300. They’re legitimate and in excellent condition.
eBay!!!
Were they new?
My name is also Greg and I feel like you're talking to me when you say stuff in 3rd person lmao
Said I wasn’t buying cause price ain’t worth it compared to other options , I folded and recently got one 2 weeks ago not upset at all. Does that mean they’re worth $550? No but I love em and imma just trade these in or sell when 2nd gen drop.
