Born and raised in Palermo. I’ll try to’ answer your question. To me, regarding The panelle and crocche panino, which yes is a pretty dry sandwich, The only toppin “”allowed “ is raw limone juice. It changes The game trust me.
when you will be in Puglia try "focaccia baresana" in Bari zone and "panzerotti" too. Also burrata and scamorza are very good. Try of course some pasta with seafood (spaghetti alle vongole or linguine allo scoglio). In Napoli check out "Tandem Ragù" shops to try sugo genovese. Remember that neae Napoli (30 km) there is a city, Caserta, known for the Reggia di Caserta, a marvellous palace, where you can find the best pizzeria in the world: I Masanielli, but you havve to book in advance, for sure.
This is actually not the best street food in Palermo. You have not eaten the sfincione, the sandwich with the spleen, the stigghiola, the frittola and much more. Basically you only ate arancine and bread with panelle! This is not a correct title for the video. Nice format and nice video, but you didn't do justice to the Sicilian culinary culture. greetings from Palermo
@@DelightfulTravellers I saw till the end. That 'sfincione' is not the real one, you can find it in the Backery, but I understand that you could not know this. A part from that, you don't eat all the rest, which are the most typical street food. For the next time, I advice you to eat them.
The chick pea fritters are called panelle. My Aunt and Grandmother would make these all the time, but we ate them by themselves not a sandwich. I agree with you they are probably to dry to eat in a sandwich.
We make panelle when we make fresh bread, pan'e panelle are a treat. Eating them plain is usually for the feast of Santa Lucia when people traditionally don't eat bread on that day.
Did you guys went around the old markets like ballarò, capo and vucciria? Those are the most characteristic places where you find the proper street food. Very nice channel, well done 👏🏻
You don't like Anchovies?? We can't live without them - but then again, we are foodies that eat a lot of Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and French cuisines.
I came into your videos a bit late. Started the week you started sharing your Greece vids. Now working my way back through your journey. Enjoy your warmth and down to earth-ness. In 2009 our family went to Sicily via a cruise and I swore I would go back if not just for the cappuccino. I still talk about Sicily being one of the favorite spots I’ve been (even if ever so brief) Hands down the best cappuccino I have EVER had was in a little place I popped into on our way up to the amphitheater in Taormina. It was so divine that I almost caused us to miss our bus grabbing one more on our way out of town.

Ciao ragazzi! I know that two very popular street foods in Palermo are the spleen sandwiches and burgers or panini made with horse meat(cavallo). I would never try them but I have seen how they are quite popular with the local Italians. Definitely not for me!!! New to your channel and enjoying your videos! Grazie, Paul in FIrenze P.s. Are you heading to Cefalu? 🙂
Well, I personally wouldn't dare call that stuff food .. maybe the reason is that I respect my body and value my good health more than the junk that is offered on the streets for a cheap price .. but yeah .. if you like it - good luck with that 😆 However, thumbs down for promoting junk 😉
I'm glad I watched this video right before breakfast. You guys made me hungry! I know this will make me look like a total foreigner, but I think that chickpea sandwich would be tasty with some lettuce, tomato, onion, and mayo. Everything looked good though! 👍
@@DelightfulTravellers Very common in Sicily, is thought to be very rich in iron, so if a person is low in iron, the doctor will recommend horsemeat! Tastes like a cross between beef and veal. Very strange concept for us from America, but while is Sicily do as Sicilians do? Always seen at festas in a panino!
Was just thinking of you guys... I really think that you should visit India soon.. Weather will be good from now on.. North East India and kashmir, himanchal is heaven. Would be good for getting a lot of sbiscribers too
Hello there,I’ve been following you for a couple of years. Born and raised is Italy and in 2013 I’ve decided to move to Canada. Newmarket (Ontario) based. I’m from Cosenza (Calabria) and you guys NEED to go and visit CALABRIA without any doubt. full of great places and beaches to spend summer vacations. Most people skip CALABRIA and go to Sicily or Puglia and when I heard you guys are going to Puglia I had to write you. CALABRIA is full of surprises, great food, mountains and of course beaches. Some of the best locations to visit are TROPEA,SCILLA,REGGIO CALABRIA,CROTONE,DIAMANTE,SAN NICOLA ARCELLA,PRAIA A MARE and many more. I hope you guys find the time to go there as well and show everybody that CALABRIA is worth the visit and not to be skipped. Have a great vacation over there.
Another great video....but (not trying to be critical) I think you missed the "real" street food. There are literally street vendors who sell foods that are not found anywhere outside of Sicily. One is called Pani Ca Meusa. Maybe you saw it and were afraid to try it when you learned what was in it. Not gonna tell. You'll have to look it up. It's not my favorite but it is true street food. And no gelato? I have it at least once a day when I'm there.

guys, you have to go and see Taormina while you're in Sicily.
OMG guys! why not "pani ca' meusa"? Why not "stigghiole"? You lost the Palermo best street food ...😭🤣

Highly suggest trying them on a sandwich. Yum 👌 - Trevor

Holy cannolo! Looks amazing. I can’t stand super sweet cannolis in the US. I bet I would love that Cannolo! Thanks for the food tour as always guys!

Can't top Italian food! Absolutely everything looked so amazing. 🤤
So good!
Since I moved here I gained 13 pounds and I keep going up lol.
I'm from Greece we love Sicilians, are cosins... Magna Grecia
And i’m from Palermo and i love goino to Greece 😊
You don't like Anchovies?? We can't live without them - but then again, we are foodies that eat a lot of Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and French cuisines.
haha i know i know 🙈 - Trevor
The reason you don't taste the anchovies to much is because they melt the anchovies in oil before they add the tomatoe sauce.
Good to know.. though Anna tasted it right away ha - Trevor

While in Sicily try to get fresh made Paste di Mandorle. Best almond cookies I’ve ever had.
Thank u for your videos always enjoy them
Thanks for the tip! So glad you like the videos Lucia - Trevor
Good job. Arancini is plural. Singular is arancinu or arancina depending upon area of Sicily.
Thanks!

With the granita you had the sicilian brioche, you have to try the brioche with the ice cream inside, we do that too in Sicily
If we see it we will try it! 😀
the Idea of Italian food really does not exist . we have 20 different Regions with 20 Different cuisine. Ciao From Italy
Trevor listen to Anna, Arancina is singular and the sfincone is Sicily's equivalent to Focaccia.
Maybe you should order different things. It's redundant that you both review the same dish.
Considering I’m half Sicilian, I’m loving this video!! Enjoy guys !!
🤗 We hope we're not making you hungry Maureen 😅 - Anna

We are heading off to Palermo on Saturday and you’ve given us some great ideas. Love the food.
Have fun!
Sicily is not Italy, they are two different things, for everything !!
Great video! Burro means butter in Italian. Was it buttery?
Didn't know that and now that you say it.. yes it was ha - Trevor
👍🙂👏🙋

Oh my goodness guys! This food looks amazing
Thank you 😋 and yes... so so good! - Trevor
The main pedestrian street is filled with tourist traps
You should have the gelato on your brioche… that’s what we tried in one of the gelato places in Palermo😋😋😋
We do that in another video 🤗
You have to try Stigghiola and horsemeat, also pasta with squid ink, while in Sicily.
We will look up some of those dishes for sure. Horse meat though? 😬 - Trevor

Is it easy to get by in English? And, by way of aside, I can see that, there in Palermo, you have long left behind easy DR prices. Lol

Oh my…I would starve as I have a severe allergy to wheat and gluten….dang! Indian street food was awesome because they use chickpea flour.
