  • #377: Social Media & Its Impact on Your Nervous System: My Update on Leaving Instagram
In this episode, I share an update about leaving Instagram and navigating the complexities of social media's influence on society. I talk about my personal experience with Instagram and discuss the importance of mindful engagement online as well as reclaiming control over our digital presence. I also speak about the psychological & somatic impacts of social media and lack of relational feedback in online interactions. This conversation ultimately invites you to get curious about your relationship with social media, explore activities that nurture fulfillment in your life, and step into a life liberated from the pressures of online validation.

What we value is something that we can put into a personal Mission Statement. A personal mission statement has the opportunity to give us direction with every moment and decision in our lives!

Thank you for your bravery and vulnerability with taking this opportunity. I wanted to share my thoughts on this that it is a personal choice that I had to ask what is social media bringing to life within me. What do I value and how can I live that. For me it was about having face to face interaction that are based in authentic relations with community that I needed around me physically. I am one who deals with social anxiety and healing wounds that can only be healed through physical contact and sharing myself fully. For me there is nothing scary then walking into a room with other people. Social media gave me a space to work on that and now it is time to level up and move forward into this space of healing. I felt safe on social media - being behind a screen - and that help those parts of myself to connect but now it is time to go deeper. Thank you for this opportunity and space. With all the love I am - Mikel

I reduced my already very private Instagram account last summer to just those people who are regularly a part of my life, or distant relatives. Just 29 people now. It really is just a place I like to post pictures of special memories. Only one of those I took off has reached out to me. Which kind of proved to me that the others and I were not close. I needed to edit for my sanity and wellness.

Mark, I only discovered you this week (thank you algorithm) and have to say you have made a lovely difference in my week. THISSSS video meets such a sore place in my biz and life. When I started ecommerce I told myself I wold go all out and do everything to succeed online. BUT!!! I drew the line at SM. I despise it and am troubled that it seems to be critical for business these days. Thank you for your sharing your experience! Followed Kylie, buying the book and am on the waiting list for the group (money is tightly managed so we will see). Thank you for being a breath of fresh air in the online space Mark. You are awesome

thanks so much for the comment! It's great that you drew a line with SM. I will continue to share what I discover about expanding a business without it. Obviously businesses existed before it... so let's GO! Excited you bought the book!! And can't wait to see you in the community if it's in your budget! It's not a high priced community. :)

It is disturbing to see people driving and checking their phone's. Parents do not pay attention to their children, kindergarten teachers spend more time checking their phones. The playground looks scary because of all small children sitting around and adults playing with the phones instead. So surreal

Life really is NOT black or white. We need the grace to see the grey.
