It’s not about HDMI and having PS5 to transmit the signal to your TV or monitor. Which doesn’t make much sense for a 1080p Portal screen, but it takes way more bandwidth creating additional latency, compression artifacts and such. Therefore, when you unplug your TV, the PS5 doesn’t need to create 4K signal any longer and this is why you may see some improvement in performance and quality. Meaning the alternative solution to unplugging your HDMI is to change the resolution on the PS5 to 1080 and it should do the same trick. I have over 900mbps in my house so was annoyed about the frequent lag, so now will be annoyed at unplugging and replugging my HDMI to the console when I want to use it 😅
You don’t have to unplug it. Just change the setting on your ps5 that automatically turns on your tv when the ps5 is turned on. That is the equivalent of disconnecting your hdmi. The issue was that if your tv turns on with your ps5 then your ps5 is sending a signal to your tv at the same time it does to your portal. Creating double the work.
@04Mancini My PS5 has never had the HDMI Link feature switched on. I noticed a huge difference disconnecting my HDMI cable back then but now I only switch off HDCP in my PS5 HDMI settings and get no lag or stutters
Hey mate, get yourself a set of magnetic HDMI Adaptors from Simple link. I am yet to try this with my set as I haven't had the need to although I suspect they'll come in real handy for unplugging and replugging the cable in between Portal sessions once my pre order arrives
Awesome video, one thing about the wifi you are using. If you don’t have a way to connect your ps5 wired which is better. Use a new wifi6 router it made a big difference for me and it was way better.
You can also tether the wifi from the hotel or McDonald's etc.. from your phone and not have to use your mobile network. This way you can login to the wifi and then use it on your portal

Had a shaky first day or two but I stuck with it. Tweak a couple things and hardwired my PS5 to my mesh router and BINGO! Thing plays insanely well. I’m shocked.
Yeah! After a few tweaks and setting adjustments, this thing is badass! Especially with a house full of kids who hog up the tvs, this thing plays so GOOD! No lag issues. No latency. Love it!
What’d you do
I’m in my first day im about to return 🤦♂️
I am in the same boat ready to return
I just finally got one lol. And yes I did apply the screen protector right away. 😂 Great vid man. However make an update for the tips and tricks esp when they release another update coz I’m sure you guys will find out more tips for newbies like me. ❤
Thanks for this video man!!! New subs here because of that! 🏆
Thanks for the sub!
@@CKidM Your welcome man, I am waiting for my portal so this video will really help me.
Just found your channel. I’m liking the content.
This is the first video I've watched from your channel. Subbed. Keep up the good work
I've been using my Pixel 7 as a hotspot and it allows you to connect to a Wi-Fi network and also operate as a hotspot. Connect my Pixel 7 to the public Wi-Fi then connect the Portal to the Pixel 7.
I just unplugged my HDMI from the back of my PS5 and the Portal hasn't lagged once! This can definitely be patched on the console.
@@DRE2XLwhy do you turn hdcp off because my portal lags i think this might be the problem
Man I think I need to get one so I could just chill on my couch and relax
I don’t have no complaints with my portal, how’s your experience outside of home?
If you have a Portal, definitely connect your ps 5 using an Ethernet cat6 cable. Definitely better experience and connectivity.
You can also tether the wifi from the hotel or McDonald's etc.. from your phone and not have to use your mobile network. This way you can login to the wifi and then use it on your portal
Thanks for the tips will be useful when I eventually get one. Cool the Mario t shirt he getting his flowers on PlayStation video spreading the love on consoles lol 🙂
No problem! LOL
I love mine!!!! Made just for the 44 year old kid in me🎉🥳
What about turning the resolution down on the ps5 to 1080p from 2160p. Do you think that would help the stream run smoother?
That’s a good question
That's interesting...I might have to try this.
@@CKidM yeah give it a go and let us know :) I’m not getting mine until Xmas. Prezzie from the wife :)
@@CKidMhow did this work??
Thanks for the info. Just started following you and you give good honest gaming advice. Not hater stuff. Keep it up
Bro has the best shirts fr. First cobra Kai now Mario?
1000% useful video too ! Just earned yourself a sub brother
Appreciate you bro. Welcome to the Home Team
Loving it no ptobs had it from release its excellent it's also great away from ps5 I play my bro sitting next to him mw3 and my ps5 is at home great vid bro respect from UK 🇬🇧 brother
If you have power cuts like we do in South Africa the the portal is useless because you can't turn the console off with the portal
I play about cod and sports games and was super excited to grab this. I’ve done everything and I guess it runs as smooth as a handheld should? But input lag still seems like it’s there. It’s like playing on a tv without game mode enabled . I’m ranked in mlb the show in the world and I can’t even hit on the portal
You probably haven’t experienced this yet, but how do you replace or repair the buttons when they break? My son has gone through a few PS5 controllers and when the buttons break, I’m curious how to replace or repair the buttons on the PS Portal.
Good stuff!! 👍
I was going to unplug my HDMI but never got around to it. The portal has been working great. Ill have to try some of these tips. First thing i did was put a screen protector on as soon as i peeled of the protective screen.
I’ve been looking for a screen protector I appreciate you dropping the link in the description Great videos and God Bless you my brother also congrats on reaching one million subscribers
My ps5 is plugged in with an Ethernet cable. Overall, are you happy with the portal? I would primarily play at home and I usually play call of duty. Thanks so much!
Thanks for that tip unplugging the hdmi cord I definitely can tell a difference
my plan is to use it for turned based jrpgs... it's nice
Great video to watch, my portal will be in, in a few days so I am preparing. You shared many tips and insights that will come in handy for sure. This video earned my sub!
What Bluetooth dongle do you use?
I got my portal and the experience is awesome! To other level
Seems kinda cool if I ever wanna just play in my bed instead of sitting at my desk or somewhere else in the house
The realist 💯 on UA-cam
Hey, thanks for the video. Is it only work with a rest mood?
Gotta hope that Sony sorts some of these issues out with updates. Hacks and workarounds are ok, but they are just adding steps. I'm in New Zealand and have to wait till Feb to get mine, so fingers crossed I won't have to deal with some of these issues
Don't buy something for what it can be, buy something for what it is now. That's the only right advice
I agree
Love the video bro keep it up
Thanks
I've had no probs at all and I have shit Internet 50 down 10 up and everything works perfect anywhere in the house. Yet to try it outside the home though
Thank you brotha these tips are gold really looking forward to trying these when I’m home
Really enjoy and appreciate your videos. Could you try hooking up your wireless earbuds with a 3.5 Bluetooth transmitter connected to the 3.5 headphone jack on the portal.
Just recently discovered this channel, and I gotta say I absolutely love your work man. Talk about earning a sub , definitely got mine!
Appreciate you fam...welcome to the Home Team!
Had to beef up my internet speed. It’s solid now 😊
Can you use your dongle to listen to spotify on ps5 while using the portal please get back to I'd love to know thank you so much for all your content you are the GOAT BRO one gets it known better than you
Hope some day not so far we can have video for the using wifi of hotel to understand a little more that part. New sub here, good video.
Great tips on changing the names -- one of the first things I did. It really irked me seeing that random numbering naming system each time connecting.
Also I like it but when I’m playing mortal Kombat 1 sometimes my character keeps going backward some times but it fixes what do you think I should do on the portal?
I deff had my ps5 hdmi unplugged since the day my portal came in the mail I thought the same thing and the first time I did it I played multiplayer hardcore on mw3 and was moving like I was playing on my ps5 deff move a lot faster
Yea definitely is the wave!
I'm not feeling to unplug and replug my HDMI constantly just for the Portal. I hate touching my setup as it is lol but will give it a try, as I keep getting random lag or stutters to frequently for my likings 😂
Great vid. Very good advice
Watched a couple of ya videos… U gained a sub, keep keeping us on point. (Respect)🤙🏾
@Ckid what was the game with horse & the war that you playing ? Lol
What’s the best games for performance I play allot of similar games as you (madden , 2k , spider man) which games or type of games should be used for performance?
