I hope this video proves helpful for those who are looking to learn how to do kinky twists. I find that commonly, tutorials attempt to teach you, but don't always do the best job of showing the steps. That is why I created this video for visual learners! This way you can clearly see the steps, and the added hair is a contrasting color, to help you see exactly what is going on in the video. If you have questions, suggestions, or video requests, please feel free to let me know in the comment section below.

I struggle with getting it tight enough without making it hurt. Also I'm allergic too the braiding hair. Any tips please and thank you.

P.S especially since I am natural. Also what Electric hot comb would you suggest.

Soak the hair in a mixture of warm water and apple cider vinegar for 30 minutes or so. Then rinse the hair and allow it to dry. Often I do this the night before if I’m adding hair to Alexzandria’s head, because her skin is very sensitive.
Gripping correctly gets easier with practice, so sometimes working on a practice head can help, you can also do a feed in twist to help lessen the tension.
I’m honestly not a fan of any electric hot comb I’ve tried, they all seem to take forever to heat up.

So after the braid, you twists ( towards the face) then Crisscross. It's like a song Twists, Crisscross; Twist and Crisscross; Now watch your stylist Go to work .

Let me begin with, I can’t box braid with extensions to save my life. So when I do kinky twists I start with a twist and they never slipped. I can even add hair to the bottom and they don’t slip. The one time I did manage box braids I started them with a twist 🤦🏾‍♀️ 😔. The only thing I think I may do differently is that I twist both sections before crossing over.

Why do my twist loosen up exponentially? They look alright but I could easily stick my finger in between the two twist sections, I even used EDGE gel. I have natural blonde thin hair and had trouble with slipping, but after a few jars of jam, one full human year and god knows how many swears, I was able to get that first knot done and not have the braiding hair slip out or loosen after ten minutes of wearing. Not too bad I think. One year. One hundred jam jars. One thousand swears. One very good and tight ass knot, one, that’s right, I never went back. But here I am again. Tight @$$ knots. Loose @$$ twist. Loud @$$ swears. One nieghbor trying to sleep. Two cops at my door. Neither one of them knew how to do hair, at all, they looked terrible. So, before I land myself in jail (although it can be at times just a big slumber party while being grounded) what are the basic mess ups that cause loose twist, crying and temporary loss of sanity…and the ability to spell…traded it for swears.

I can never make the second technique stay neat longer than a few days 🤦🏽‍♀️
And your mannequin has dense hair. Mine I guess has a Euro texture hair. I would buy another one, but I have a 9-year old who will just be a better model 😤
