NHC June Lunch & Learn 2023 - Affordable Homeownership

June is National Homeownership Month, and we celebrated by hosting our Lunch & Learn on affordable homeownership. This engaging panel discusses the affordable homeownership landscape in Nevada, the innovative programs leveraged to support potential homeowners and some of the challenges present in our current models.
Carol Wayman, Senior Policy Advisor with the Office of Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, kicked off the session by sharing some policy initiatives that support this work.
Irise Tam Bailey, Director, Homeownership Programs at the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, shared information on the bank’s current down payment assistance programs including a new pilot program for middle income households.
Angela Phillips, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas, discussed what makes the Habitat for Humanity model unique and how they make their homes affordable.
Kyle Prior, Executive Director at Duck Valley Housing Authority, spoke about his experience using LIHTC to build single family homes in Owyhee, NV.
Nia Girma, Affordable Housing Advocate with the Nevada Housing Division, moderated the session and shared perspectives and resources housed at the Division.
