God bless (BTW, that even SOUNDED good when you were stirring it!!! Can only imagine how good it smelled and especially tasted!!!)
@Clint Eastwood it is called pot pie because the Dutch call it bot boi. It eventually became known as pot pie. A meat pie is what you are talking about. What Paula made is not a true batch of pa pot pie. Close but not like ours.
Paula, my Dad was from Pennsylvania Dutch country. I am so familiar with chicken pot pie! Most people think of pot pie in a crust..yes, this is more like chicken and dumplings. It’s funny that my husband and I have been wanting to find this recipe as my parents and grandma are no longer with us. Plus, nothing was written down. I will say what I remember, white potatoes were used and lots of parsley. My grandma, then later my mom, would serve this with what Grandma called “hot lettuce”. It’s a dressing made on top of the stove in a sauce pan. Flour, an egg, vinegar and sugar (to taste). It makes a thick consistency dressing. Pour it over a bowl of lettuce. The sweet salad alongside this dish is a great pairing. My grandma also did what she called an apple pot pie. Same dumpling type noodles but it was a dessert because of the apples. We’d have it with some half and half drizzled over😩The Pennsylvania Dutch recipes were always hearty and very mild as far as spices. Just comforting. Thanks for this trip down memory lane☺️
I’m from central Pennsylvania outside of Amish country my mom was a farm kid they made everything from scratch she cooked her chicken , took meat off bone saved broth ,added potatoes, parsley, then made a dough ,rolled it out cut in squares threw them in boiling broth, the noodle squares got thicker, sooo good us kids loved the pot pie squares dough omg it was good! It was a real treat. Paula you’re a sweetheart! Love you I like collecting old church cookbooks and making recipes ,miss my moms cooking she was a great cook and a sweetheart.
Hi Paula, I grew up in PA and was married to a real PA Dutch type family. I have made this similar recipe for years. This doesn’t look like any one I’ve ever tasted or made. There is always much more liquid and I’ve never heard of putting red potatoes in it. We used a sm. onion, a few stalk of celery and if I didn’t make my own noodles, I would use the extra wide noodles. Such a good cold weather dish. Yum😊
Paula, so glad we can STILL watch you!!!!!!!! Forget the stupid politics of big networks!!! You're real, you're genuine and you keep being you, that's why you're so well loved by SO MANY people, my family and many many other families!!! God bless
Derrick you are so special to your GrandMumMum and the time you spent in the kitchen with her is forever cherished memories ❤ So thoughtful of you to share her recipe it looks delicious and I can't wait to try it 😋
When my generation watched TV with our grandparents, we were watching the Lawrence Welk Show! I still watch it today. Paula honey, you are in good company.
I had never heard of chicken pot pie until I moved to Pennsylvania. The pot pie I’m familiar with is chicken and veggies in a pie crust. I am going to make this recipe. It looks so yummy. I live in Amish country so the noodles are sold everywhere!
Would be comfort food with some seasonings off in it. I make a chicken stew that has homemade noodles, by making them yourself you don't have to dust all of the flour off of them and you'll get a thicker stew. But mine has seasonings in it. Boiled chicken, chicken broth, onions, garlic powder, dried thyme, parsley flakes, cumin powder, smoked paprika, Moroccan spice blend, red pepper flakes, a glug of soy sauce, salt, pepper, and you've gotta serve it with real hot southern cornbread with butter. It's a pantry dish, as you can tell by all them dried spices, but it's easy and down home tasty. Good eating.
my mother in law makes this traditional dish it is also called a Slippery chicken pot pie sometimes they use chuck roast in it.. ofc everyone makes it different.. she makes her noodles from scratch.. but adds peas, onion, carrots , celery, salt and pepper garlic powder to it.. her is just like a dumpling recipe a chicken gravy in it.... but more stewy.. it is delicious..
Here's the info: Since margarine has a variable but high trans fat level, the consumption of margarine may lead to an increased incidence of heart disease, cancer, & other diseases when compared with butter. Hence, butter is considered healthier than margarines.
This is not true. Margarine used to have trans fat but since the 90s brands have made their margarines trans fat free. Butter on the other hand always has trans fat.
@@Haags_hopje_070 You are speaking of the changes the FDA made a few years ago, in reference to ADDING more trans fats to make the margarine harder. There is natural occurring trans fats due to the first 1 - 3 ingredients used, that's when companies utilize different LIQUID oils. The FDA no longer allows any trans fats to be ADDED to margarine. The trans fats already exist in the ingredients when making margarine. (Basically, margarine is water, liquid oils, & salt.)
As someone who grew up eating and making pa Dutch pot pie, and yes, we call it pot pie because the Dutch call it bot bie, but we make our own noodles, add them one at a time so they don't stick. When I moved to the Pittsburgh area (city folk) and made my new husband some pot pie, he ate 2 big bowls. He looked at me and said I don't know what this is, but it's delish. Lol. I said that's mountain pa cooking. If you make your own noodles, it is a totally different meal. You ever get to pa, I'll make you a big old batch but I use turkey for a more flavourful broth. See, some of us can Yankees can cook. Lol
When my mother made this - she used chicken or ham and ham broth and it was "Pot Pie". When she made the Bisquick dumplings that are dropped into broth and puff up tender and good - that was Chicken & Dumplings. So we did it both ways - I still do - in Virginia.
I make some dishes similar but I add some chopped carrots & onions & celery! My Mom & Grandma were from the 'Pennsylvania Dutch areas also'! Johnstown, PA.
I LOVE pot pie!! I can smell my Nomi's (grandma's) chicken 🐔 & dumplins & 🐔 chicken pot pies. Rolling out the dough with a glass when she couldn't find the rollin' pin!! umm um umm! I'm assuming (we all know how we spell assume) the noodles take the place of the pie crust? If not chicken & dumplins just a dry chicken noodle soup. BUT no matter WHAT Derrick .... it looks SOOOO good I'm gunna try it. My great grandma was Friends (Quaker) in Pennsylvania & I loved going to the Amish Towns. There was even a schmorgesborg 🤷♀️(auto spell can't spell it & I can't either) 🤭🤭 or now called a buffet. I was 6 but I remember those biscuits floating off the plates in the middle of the round table & eating with my family & strangers. THANK you Miss Paula for sharing Derricks recipe.. I got my southern roots & Yankee Daddys family memories!! ❤❤❤ love , joy, & peace from the Lord to you dear Lady. 🙏 ❤
Hello Paula: Not wanting to disparage anyone, but that needs more broth. The end result should look like gravy with pot pie noodles and chicken swimming in it. Oh...true PA. Dutch pot pie doesn't have potatoes in it, but that's a matter of preference. I figure one carb. is enough? Oh, you're right, to me this is Chicken n dumplings. Pot pie is a type of noodle, NOT a dish, so either one could be the other? This could be called Chicken and dumplings, OR Chicken Pot Pie. I've lived in the heart of Pa. Dutch (Amish) country here in NE Pa. for75 years. I grew up on this stuff. There's nothing better than Amish food, well...maybe great Southern food?:
paula you are a touch of class and joy in a world where thats rare and become extinct your show, laughter and food brought a ton of joy to many including myself, mother and aunt missed the trip to savannah with them and it still frustrates me to this day you are a gem my dear and never forget it ❤❤❤
The recipe DID say SEASON TO TASTE… In his Mom~Mom’s defense SEASONING Varies by cook & household. I use a variety of seasonings depending on what I cook whereas my Mom never used ANYTHING but salt & pepper as well as her love for Hellman’s mayo & {YIKES} REAL BUTTER ( but then again she despised cooking anything) We grew up adding ketchup to everything lol my Pop-Pop did the same. I love to cook & bake & learned very very early & in my Mom’s defense heart disease ran rampant in our Family. We never added Salt to ANY food whilst cooking nor cooked fried foods since my Pop-Pop had multiple MI’s (❤attacks) as well as my Mom at the age of 36! We also rinsed any canned goods if it stated no sodium . We had to get creative with different spices in place of sodium for YEARS PRIOR to my Mom’s Heart Transplant. My brother & myself grew up eating boiled chicken many times with just onions in the water 😳The HORROR LOL That & Mashed or boiled potatoes, corn /green beans or spinach was a staple in our house . I don’t believe my Mom ever baked chicken or even thought about adding garlic, onion OR ANY seasoning besides SALT etc. *HENCE ADDING KETCHUP to everything. lol . It was a family joke as well as my Brother asking his wife prior to marriage NEVER to serve him BOILED CHICKEN EVER! Mom passed away in 1999 of cancer. She DID teach me how to crochet in kindergarten , allowed me to cook & bake at an early age & gave me the added knowledge of measuring properly especially when baking , to preheating an oven & how to gather up ingredients, measuring everything beforehand as well as reading through recipe’s. I still catch myself forgetting to add salt to pasta water (& food) since my daughter needs EXTRA salt in hers. Miss Paula, thank you for being you & reminding me daily that EVERYONE is different . It sure would be a boring place if we all were the same. Love & Hugs from Anita S .
Even better if you add some carrots and corn. It's also good on occasion if you add a hit of milk or cream. Others like onions or scallions added. Also, celery. I like mushrooms and nutmeg in mine. One thing to keep in mind - when it comes to Pennsylvania Dutch cooking, there is never really only one exact recipe for anything. Use them as guides and adjust as you prefer. And never be afraid to experiment.
This recipe looks AMAZING! Tbh I was expecting a crust at some point and was surprised when there wasn't one. Lol! That's the southerner in me I suppose. Lol! You say pot pie I expect there will be a crust. But regardless... I would eat this just exactly like how it's made! This has my mouth watering so I could understand why Eddie was anxious to get his hands on a big giant bowl of it! Omg thank you Paula for making this recipe! That was so sweet of you to do this for one of your subscribers! I made a whole cookbook of my family's recipes a couple years ago and I'd have a hard time picking out just one of my childhood favorite recipes my mama use to make! I have so many! One might be chocolate gravy for breakfast. Another might be her old fashioned giant cinnamon rolls or divinity candy or even some good ol fashioned chocolate fudge... See I have too many I love! Lol Thanks again Paula for sharing this! I want to definitely make this dish!
As a Pennsylvania cook, you need some onion, celery and carrots in the mix. Perhaps when you added the potatoes. (Yes, it is very similar to chicken and dumplings).
I'd just call that chicken & noodles. I make it without the potatoes. Those I cook separately & mash them. Then you put a pile of mashed potato on your plate and spoon the chicken & noodles on the potatoes. Hearty eats!
The PA. Dutch call this Bot Boi which sounds like Pot Pie. It is more like a soup and the potatoes are sliced and layered in the pot with the chicken and noodles. My grandmother made her own noodles and there was more broth than seen here. Looked tasty though.
Miss Dean you are such a softy. ❤ I never watched you on that other network. ( Or anyone else) I found you as soon as you started filming yourself. This is so much better.. ks

Just so you know I will never watch food network ever. I have never watched them them since they we’re dumb as-- I love you. I’m sure you have shown them you can’t win over Paula Deen
We have not filmed any new episodes on Fox Nation since November. The producer for Paula’s show has been on maternity leave. Hoping to get some new shows later this year.

I just love anything about Eddie ❤ he seems so genuine
I would add carrots, onion , celery, and green peas.
For sure bc it is a pot pie! Peace and love and thx to the gent and Paula!
Derrick you are so special to your GrandMumMum and the time you spent in the kitchen with her is forever cherished memories ❤ So thoughtful of you to share her recipe it looks delicious and I can't wait to try it 😋
People around Southern Indiana & Kentucky call that special piece out of the back, 'lite.' Yep. It's so good. 😋
My randma called it the oyster too & it's my favorite piece!! I love the dark meat. 😍 I love learning what others called it!!😊
I ❤️ Kentuckiana!

I got excited when I read “chicken pot pie” because they are three of my favorite things.
You can find those noodles at Amish stores. You will also find other treasures there too.

Pot pie is cooked in a pot *** meat pies ***** have a crust not true pot pie
As a Pennsylvania cook, you need some onion, celery and carrots in the mix. Perhaps when you added the potatoes. (Yes, it is very similar to chicken and dumplings).
I learned to call the back end of a chicken the Popes Nose.
Good morning Ms.Paula, Eddie, and Teresa.! That looks good. Have a wonderful day.

OMG! It's still early in the day but I don't care! I want some now! Yummy stuff right there.
Well said Queen of Butter ❣️👸
PA Dutch chicken pot pie was basically chicken & dumplings. I watch my pA Dutch Grandmom make this many times.
The PA. Dutch call this Bot Boi which sounds like Pot Pie. It is more like a soup and the potatoes are sliced and layered in the pot with the chicken and noodles. My grandmother made her own noodles and there was more broth than seen here. Looked tasty though.
Good morning, everyone.
What’s in a name? This looks like an easy way to throw something delicious & nutritious together! Will try for sure.
This Pennsylvania Dutch Chicken Pot Pie recipe looks so delicious 😋 Paula.
Wish I had some right now.
That looks really good , thank you
Looks good! I agree it looks similar to chicken & dumplings. I would add a bit more chicken broth later on.
Mom also made beef , ham pot pie omg good
Love your rooster dishes Paula!
That recipe needs a LOT more broth, and some onions, carrot, and celery.
In our part of PA we call this slippery pot pie... but the noodles are homemade
It is chicken and dumplins but needs a creamy sause
Chicken 🐔 and dumplings! 😊
Pot pie would have a crust 😋 right?😮
Looks soooo good!!! Gonna have to make! Thanx Derek and Paula 😁
Chicken pot pie have vegetables and pie crust in Louisiana
My Mommom made Chicken Pot Pie similar to this. But with homemade noodles and lots of extra broth
Miss Dean you are such a softy. ❤ I never watched you on that other network. ( Or anyone else) I found you as soon as you started filming yourself. This is so much better.. ks

Good morning Miss Paula….. love you all!!
I find those noodles, not the extra wide ones but the same brand at my local grocery store or Walmart as well.
We PA Dutch make our own noodles, and a pinch of saffron
We always cut the patatos into pieces.
I think those are the noodles I use in my chicken and dumplings. The ones I use are frozen and much more difficult to use. Good to know they come dried. Just add a little cream of chicken soup to the chicken and dumplings after they cook and it makes a wonderful comfort food.
Butter makes everything better
Looks yummy! I live in Pennsylvania and I make ham pot pie like the chicken one you made, but I roll my own dough and I add carrots and onions and it is very tasty (^-^)
Try beef pot pie
Yeah I will add butter too
The one thing I do differently is cook the chicken the same way but I remove the chicken and let the broth cool then I refrigerate over night the next day I take it out and all of the fat had gone to the top and hardened then just dip out the chunks and you have a healthy fatless broth better for you and tastier.
Paula, The saying The Devil Made Me Do It came from Comedian Flip Wilson back in late 60's to early 70's.
This looks amazing
Looks so good. It makes me hungry.
I think I would have added pearl onions, carrots & peas. I would have liked a more creamy sauce with a French Baguette
My dad would make homemade dumplings with chicken but had more of a gravy consistency
Yes, add a bit more stock.
My grandmother also used real butter she lived to almost 99
Looks delicious.
Looks good. Needs more veggies and broth. Is there room at the table for me?? 😂😘
Just so you know I will never watch food network ever. I have never watched them them since they we’re dumb as-- I love you. I’m sure you have shown them you can’t win over Paula Deen
MRS. PAULA IT LOOKS GOOD BUT IT IS TOO DRY FOR ME. I LIKE THE GRAVY THAT GOES WITH IT. IS THE DISH MOIST WITHOUT THE GRAVY?
Thanks
Audio sounds like your underwater again. I’m sorry.
That look delicious 😋
Eddie can is Paula still on Fox Nation? If so, what time and days? Thanks! Appreciate all your efforts and contributions.
We have not filmed any new episodes on Fox Nation since November. The producer for Paula’s show has been on maternity leave. Hoping to get some new shows later this year.
Where's the broth?
Good morning Mrs Paula Deen
How do you send recipes to her?
Yes the chicken oyster is the best
I would like to know when you’re having a book signing and where? Please & Thank you ❤
Paula will be in Nashville this weekend 4/15 10-12 for a book signing.
Branson 5/6 Savannah, Lady and sons 6/10 and Myrtle Beach 7/8
The devil looks like the cartoon character, Hot Stuff, from that time period comic books
I know the back end of the chicken as The Pope's Nose.
The background sound is bad. The noodles look good but it needs more stock and seasinings.
I’ve commented the past couple of videos the sound is bad . I love watching Paula but I can’t because of the sound . Such a bad echo sound .
The sound quality is not good. I have been watching and listening since Quarantine cooking started.
You need more broth and saffron
Real pot pie. Everyone assumes pie filling food.
Where's your red glasses 😅😅😂🎉😊
Cut potatoes in half and add more broth, please
I would reduce the amount of noodles used.
Add butter ?? Why of course Miss Paula..😅
Tummy
Would have cut the potatoes or used smaller ones and there's definitely not enough broth in that pot!
Where is the carrot celery and onions.
It's definitely not chicken pie cause you gotta have that crust on top. lol
It not a chicken pie…the PA Dutch call it POT pie..no crust involved. 😉
👺butter made me do it....
That didn't look so great. Needs more liquid
