If you want some fun Elden Ring content, I'd recommend CarbotAnimation's Elden Ring series. It's super funny, and also accurate to the game, but each individual episode is actually only a minute or two long, so they're easy to get into and binge watch.

If you guys ever want a slightly different, more academic style of analysis on this game, check out Tarnished archaeologist. It’s kind of an acquired taste, but he does long form analysis on the architecture and symbology of Elden Ring. It’s incredibly in-depth, he ends up connecting the symbols to historical analogues more often than not (because that’s where Miyazaki got them from), and his conclusions feel absolutely rock solid. Vaati will talk about item descriptions and some symbols like the chain loops on the Giant’s Forge, but the TA will exhaustively identify each location where a carving or statue shows up and draw conclusions from that. He has pretty much definitely proved the presence of a Greattree by showing a consistent and enduring difference in two series of tree carvings and ornamentation that show up throughout the game, connecting one, clearly older series with locations and persons associated with the Primordial Chaos, and the other with erdtree worship. And the videos themselves are absolutely captivating, packed with game art and art from the real world that inspired it, as well as a clear and concise production style. I imagine a lot of people here won’t be familiar with his work, so it could be fun to introduce them to another lore hound.

A great point, regarding the fire giants. From what we can see in the Mountaintops, Marika and Godfrey decimated the giants wholeheartedly. It's essentially a mass grave where you see dozens of giants standing dead on the spot, and a thorny, gnarled, tree root piercing their chest and rooting them to the spot. I think Marika's power was immense and she pierced every giant she saw with indestructible bramble, which we see the Erdtree use, and it is indestructible. The dragons attacked Lleyndell, and lost to it's defence. I think that's where they got all their big defence ideologies from. Which they used when they won against the attacking forces during the demigod wars. Some crucial events here but the whole of the Golden Order still has so many more facets, maybe he covers them in other videos.

Lot to cover in Elden Ring so if he hasn’t covered more of Golden Order than for sure more is coming 😅

15:08 I love the Crucible Knights. They have some big mystique about them playing through the game for the first time because they are one of the few types of enemies that still clearly have their wits about them and carry themselves with dignity and a noble air, and when you start to learn a little about them from their related items, you realize that they are also some of the oldest characters in the game. So they are extremely old but still mostly sane in this ancient and twisted world, that really says something to the strength of their convictions and the temper of their will. And yet all but one of them, the blasphemer, will see a Tarnished like yourself and immediately deem you kill-on-sight. That is the kind of reactive world building I love to see. Because at the beginning we really know very little about ourselves as Tarnished, let alone the world we have been called to and our place in it. And when trying to find your place in the world, it is very telling about how others view you when those who are amongst those who still know the most about what is going on here take one look at you and do not like what they see one bit.

the erdtree's forces became defensive later on.
early in their history, they were led into battle by godfrey, lord of the battlefield, and queen marika the eternal. during that age, the erdtree and its forces made enemies of the entire world and had to be on the offensive every second of every day. it's not until godfrey crushed all opposition that they had the luxury to become a more defensive society.
following godfrey being, quote, "hounded from the lands between", radagon stepped up and led the defensive forces of the erdtree against liurnia in two campaigns, both of which ended in a draw at best. radagon meeting the queen of liurnia, rennala, on the battlefield is what actually led to the end of the war and the unification of the continent under marika.
and then at this point, because they have no more wars to fight, lyendell and the forces of the erdtree swap to a defensive posture permanently.

the japanese texts apparently weren't always translated correctly, for example the "outer gods" are more akin to the japanese Kame instead of lovecraftian outer gods. Smoughtown also addressed this in on of his videos

When you play the game, it is implied that you serve the Golden Order to ascend as the next Elden Lord; but, that's if you don't dive into the lore.
Once you know even a semblance of truth, it is pretty obvious that the Golden Order is the last faction that should not be in power, allowing the endings to branch as you choose who is in power.

Glad that you guys picked up on the parallels between our world and the history of Elden Ring. The game's director/writer Hidetaka Miyazaki actually was a sociology major in college and it shines through in each game he heads. The othering of certain groups of people by the powers that be, social hierarchies and the unwillingness of those in power to move forward and progress past the current stagnant age. It's all there each time. Plus all the mythological, scientific and philosophical allusions like entropy, the meaning of life and death, etc.
Anyway, I'm rambling. Thanks for another great video.

Fromsoft games in lore often have like a he says/she says narrative to them. The Erdtree forces dominate most of the forces and ideas in the Lands Between, so much coincides their ideas. They condemned much of old traits as accursed and not modern, such as wings, tails, horns, and scales. Contradictory to the simple take on flame of the fell god as harmless is that most in charge of watching over it began worshipping it with ideas of burning the Erdtree despite the heresy. This isn't so straightforward of a topic though.
