I don’t know if you will reply but I got a map turtle at Florida beach and the bottom of one of the turtle have a very orange color it also has it in the edge of its shell I don’t know if it is turtle rot so if you know please tell me
My eyes light up when this man posts
Same
Day 15 of telling him to stop calling me a turtle nerd
I respect the hustle
Oooof
That's a beautiful shirt you got there!
It'll be available soon!!!
Love the upload schedule
Thanks alot. Im now dealing with the shell fungal now. Im dry basking him immediately
Nice video dan!! Super helpful!
My red ear slider has pretty bad shell rot. Her tank is clean and our filter is good and was recommended by the vet. Her water is changed out every 7-10 days. She refuses to bask unless dry docked. Do you know why a turtle would refuse to bask and how to encourage them to do so?
My turtle refuses to bask on his rock but, he climbs out of his pond then goes for a 30-1 hour walk then goes back. I honestly thing your turtle needs more sunlight / heat
Great job Dan!
Great job. I hope your turtle recovers from the rotting shell..

Love the video as usual and can't until you Get merchandise!
if you were my teacher at school, I would have paid more attention in class
Nice video man!!!
I literally do 75% water twice a week with my diamondback terrapin. Also I have massive amounts of filtration.
Nice😊
Goodcontent man😮
I use aquarium salt and bathe mine 30 minutes twice a week.
Oh phew thanks for this vid i taught my turtle have shell rots thanks
If you live in a city that has hard water, does it make shells more susceptible? Thank you for this informative video as always!!!
I'd say so yes. Adding some peat moss or something to soften the water should help!
@@DanTheTurtleMan_ That's a simple fix, thank you bunches!! ADVENTURE TIMEEEE!!!
notification gang!
Hey!
Hahaha yeah!
Another Awesome Video Man 🤘 keep up the great work 👍💯🐢💯

U so creative🤗 and smart i luv ur vids🐢🐢
Love ur videos🥰
Loved the vid
My RES turtle shell be drying out, I believe it's the water & not shell rot, because it dries my skin out, SMH. I use the Repto guard turtle conditioner things when I change the water & I wipe her shell off in the old water before putting her in the clean water. And I have that turtle VitaShell cream I use when she's on the floor in her shelter box. I live in Detroit, Michigan so she can only take her out for sun when it's nice out. And I've learned she doesn't like light, LOL. She likes darkness. When I let her run around she heads for the dark places, LOL. When she's sleeping at night & I turn the light on & leave it on, on purpose she starts splashing in the water for me to turn it off. She likes natural daylight🌞. She's preparing for her hibernation season since it's getting cold here in Michigan. She's 11 years old now. I take good care of her. I love your videos. You seen the pics I sent you!! ☺☺🐢🐢
I have a Mississippi map turtle can you make a video on the basics for them:)
Diamond back terrapins are more or less brackish water animals. Like mollies. Would adding some salt to the water help? What about batracin or
neosporin poiltices?
Thanks an for the informative video! I appreciate your dedication!
just need some clarification ,When you apply the betadine and let it dry do you wash the shell to get rid of the betadine or do you leave it on ?
Rinse before putting back in the enclosure!
Thanks for the update please let me know when New is available thanks George nail here my cousin must female turtle has a white spot on her topper shell what they do about it George now here
What did you do to bean to make his shell better
I like before watching lol 🤭 is DAN, WYM?!

I NEED HELP what is the little green spots on my turtles shell?(not natural looking )and she's a red eared slider
Algae soft tootbrush skrubb under running water
Great video, plis make a ton and keep it up ❤️❤️❤️
I’ve found some green color around the tank and i was wondering if it could be that my turtles are losing their color? 😢
There is 2 of them and they are still babies, maybe 5-6 months old
Can you help?
It is algae
Sorry about that my female common MUSC turtle has a white small spot on top of her shell what can I do about it let me know George nail here
Is it hardwater stains
My turtle has red between the cracks on his underbelly. What is that and should I take him to the vet?
Yes🎉
I have a baby turtle who doesn't bask only hides. Its a 3 toed box turtle
Maybe use *distilled water* to prevent the hard water spots?
Where did u buy that thick lining for ur pond?
My turtle has and orange bottom but it does not have any hole or anything but it is very orange and it also has a skinny line that is a small bit purple I don’t know if it is purple but I think it’s a bit purple
My soft shells have white fungus they are always basking I’ve had them for 2 or 3 days and they came with it I got them from the turtle source
Hi Dan, I have a African sideneck that has a flexible plastron high up towards her neck (that first section of shell) She's in a new area- aquarium & she won't bask for some reason. There doesn't seem to be any rot areas just the softness of that part. I've been taking her out of water, in a bucket with small towel & under UVB light & heat lamp (3-4 hrs) & over night just in bucket. Can you give me any other ideas or am I doing the right thing? Thank you so much
Can you tell me if my turtle belly is normal? It started to look discolored about a week or so ago. Honestly, we have been so busy I just noticed it. I can't figure out how to send you pictures.... lol
My dream to have this turtle
After i apply the betadine on its shell, do i need to rinse it off before letting it back to its tank or i dont need it to rinse it off? Thank you!
I rescued my brother’s turtle. He neglected it for years and decided he didn’t want it anymore. I think he has shell rot.
I just wanted to ask how you scrape the rot away. My turtles shell has started pitting and I'm super scared that it would be too late. I've use topical solutions to keep it at bay but the inevitable is happening and idk what to do here. I could send pictures if you'd like but I gotta know if and how I can save him!
With my turtle I just kept him warm depending on what turtle you have they need a specific water temperature and my turtle doesn’t really like water so he spends most of his time on my bed and goes under my blanket he usually stays there for a few hours and sleeps but it actually helps him a lot his shell rot started healing faster that way
Heres some tips but do research tho im not a expert
Well heres my shell care routine for my turtle:
-Gentle Brushing with mild soap monthly
-Adding antifungal / bacterial fish medicine( such as methylene blue) to the water
-Basking
-calcium foods like (snails, shrimp)
I have a large female Indonesian black marked pond turtle what conditions or environment or food I need to give to her keep her going in a good direction George nail here thank you
Nail fungus cream or liquid should resolve for fungus. Not for shell rot
Yes! Antibiotics for shell rot, not antifungal. Antifungal is for that weird fungus that is common most on Terrapins
Hey Dan! do you have to quarantine your turtle while you're treating shell rot?
YES! its like covid, its infected easily 😀
I keep my cumin must turtle female in a 22 gallon clear rubber stove Tanner container George now here is it okay
My turtle have something like that , I am not sure ...I need some help..because I want let him free but I do not want let him free like that...he is a diamon terrapin and have 3 years sirh me but he is a wild turtle I rescue him from be kill by a car... ehen it was a litle baby turtle.... can you sugest someting to me... can I send a pic to you tellme whatit can be and what I should do
I don’t believe you; you’re the guppy man.
Looking for a Terrapin....
Do we need to separate the sick turtle from the healthy turtle? I mean after the drydocking, is it okay to put them together?
Not necessarily. Shell rot isn't "contagious", it's a product of the environment.
Antiseptic is not the same as antibiotics. Iodine is antiseptic. Antibiotics should only be prescribed by a vet.
Good differentiataion, I'll make sure I use the proper term on future videos. Thank you!!!
👍
Hi, I have a DBT and have been dealing with shell rot and i also have a bad case of algae i have brown algae on the rocks and some of these plastic plants and some rocks have green algae and now my DBT has algae growing on its shell it basks regularly at night time and we’ve done full water changes every once in a while and it still grows back in a couple weeks and with the turtle weve tried scrubbing the shell with a soft bristle toothbrush and it didnt work either! Do you have any tipsv
If it’s brackish water that can fix all of this can a freshwater raised dbt live in brackish water full time? I got my dbt from american reptile distributors it can with a soft squishy shell and size of a quarter and a couple months later it’s now size of my hand and has a hardened shell
why is the auto sub in Portuguese...
Hi
Is that the same way to treat skin fungus( skin infection) ?
Actually yeah, pretty close to the same! Same thing applies to terrapin skin infection.
@@DanTheTurtleMan_ dry dock + anti-fungal works amazingly on my yearling. I can see half of infected skin is falling off ! Thanks , Dan !!!!
Bean in Spanish frijoles
Dude, Diamondback Terrapins shouldn't be kept in fresh water. They will eventually die. You should know that.
Of course they'll die in freshwater! From old age 😉🤣 Scientifically freshwater does negatively impact this species. If anything it helps them osmoregulate more easily rather than existing in a hypertonic environment.
Do you have contact email?
I'm getting a turtle soon 🐢
no u
thank you for mansplaining hard water stains

What product did you use on Bean?
I know you recommended Betadine for ‘shell rot’. Is this what you used on Bean as well?
Sunlight and being in the pond helped Bean (I do not have a pond, and it is pretty cold during the fall/winter/early spring where I live) as well as some sort of anti fungal cream...but what exactly did you use and how long did it take for Bean’s shell to return to the pretty, vibrant colors?
My turtle has gone through the same thing. Her shell is all light and ‘garbage’ looking.
Looking for a Bean transformation/miracle.
Thanks
I used nothing on Bean except sunlight and living in the pond. For you, I'd dry dock and try lamisil overnight for a few days!
@@DanTheTurtleMan_ thanks for the quick response! I will give it a try! I am currently trying a daily vitamin e oil treatment on her shell. Lamisil will be my next experiment if this doesn’t work (only been a few days on the vitamin e oil)
@@aaffoster lamisil will work wonders. Basically at night keep dry, apply it, then in the morning rinse it off, let them hang in the enclosure, then that night do the same thing. Good luck!!
@@DanTheTurtleMan_ should I rinse with tap water straight from the sink? Or should I rinse using conditioned water (with beneficial bacteria) I pull from the tank?
@@aaffoster eh, either or. Doesn't really matter tbh 🤣
