From the story to the overall look, I sometimes just forget that I'm watching a UA-cam video. I have only been in the game for a few years but I greatly enjoy all of your videos and I always eagerly await for the next video to drop. Terrific examination of what makes dialog work, and the process you went through to find it. Humorous, informative, self effacing, and most importantly, flawed. ....... A little info. The voice/dialog creation that Hawkings used, was the exact one used in the old Amiga 500 (1987). This was a computer that was the next step up from the Commodore 64, produced by the same company. And was out long before Hawkings adapted the system. They were also the first genuine multitasking computer (2 or more processes running at once) - before Apple (who faked multitasking with task switching (mulitple programs fired up, but only one at a time were actually processing). I used to have several Amiga computers and played with the voice function all the time. Unfortunately, it was a poorly marketed company, or they would have been what Apple it today. .... A story about this Amiga voice playback. When my kids were very young, I used to tell them that I had a connection to Santa Claus, and that I could send him a message through the computer. I told my kids that I would type out they're questions to him, and he would respond with an audio message back. Oh course, they were like, "What?" So they would talk to him (at the speaker cabinet - they didn't know), I would be saying, "that's a good question, son" pretend that I was typing in their questions and wish lists... but I was really typing the (Santa) responses to what they were saying into the dialog line. They would talk, stare at the speakers in anticipation, and I would wait, then hit the enter key. My typed lines would be read by the computer, turned into dialog, and the kids got the answers to their questions and their requests about gifts they wanted. Then looked at me with that big OHHH look of wide eyed surprise. Fun stuff. ..... Hey, great work as always Josh.

      It looks like there are still some Amiga 500s around on eBay, if you wanted to get one to experiment with the speech synthesizer.

    • @WayneThePoet
      @WayneThePoet 3 роки тому +1

      I don’t remember if you can save the synthesized voice as a digital audio file. But, I do know that the Amiga had left and right RCA jacks out, which you could send to an input on another computer or recording device and capture it that way. With this you could record any dialog you chose to type in to the Amiga synthesize dialog line.
      It would be fun to type in “Everything I know I learned from OTIS” and it would just like Stephen Hawking saying it!

    I’ve been working on an AI video for the last three months and I’d be lying if I said you weren’t the inspiration. I’ve been putting it off because my process and story telling is still... well, I’m getting better. I just started this year. Gimme a break.
    Thanks for this video Josh. Appreciate you.

    The fear + comic relief elements probably explain why OTIS felt like C3PO
