I was worried the Frieren manga was gonna be just okay and the anime was truly the much better version of the story. I'm glad to be proven incorrect. The manga is excellent and is well deserving of the awards and high praise it has been given. The anime is a sublime adaptation. It has a top notch production. I haven't seen such consistent quality since Mob Psycho and this was over double the episodes of a Mob Psycho season. Even the outsourced episodes maintained high quality, which is a pleasant surprise.
Its kind of like the LOTR of manga and the Anime is the peterjackon movies to it.
The strength of Frieren is the writing. And writing isn’t done through anime adaptions of manga. It’s done IN the manga . So thinking an anime as good as Frieren would have just an “ok” manga is a bit silly (no offense)
After finishing ep 28 of the anime, I start reading manga and afraid that the quality of the story will decline in next arcs but nope, It gets much better and the world-building continue to expand in various aspects. Epic combat, emotional moments, chemistry between characters are still good and improved chapter by chapter. Especially, the El Dorado arc the way the author wrote Macht is so good, and I'm really looking foward to the latest "Serie assassination mission" arc

The fact that Frieren is on that hit list too is nuts.
Just based on the first couple chapters I feel like the current arc is gonna be my favorite outta the whole story

Sousou no frieren its the meaning of masterpiece. Just work in different high levels. The simplicity of the journey and the master skill of storytelling of reflection, time and what its the meaning of things just hit the older audience right into the the face. I barely stop crying along the episodes because the message are so human and fit so well to us that its impossible not be emotional. And the show have a perfect humor, battles, and character development, all that with a gorgeous animation that madhouse nailed it. For a younger guy who want to see battle, you will find it here, fanservice? Yes, but not a pervert one, but a truly gentleman fanservice that are questionable if are fanservice or not (God rip me out the earth if the armpit and feets scenes are not fanservice here haha). Anyway, the anime can be 10/10 in everything that him propose to do. Just perfection! We need at least postponed the death about 10 years to have time enought to watch the seasons that will outcome and the news manga volumes.
And another thing, the female main character nailed it! I'm dont remember to watch any main character so human and so well written in a couple of years (Actually i dont remember since i start to watch anime at all lol) Its impossible even for the most incel person does not like frieren. Its a masterclass about how we expected watch womans in shows and give to them the place that they deserve, because not even a single drop of sexualization and bullshits like that. JUST PERFECT!

@@mattiabartolini1090 This series is just so freaking good consistently. The arc after El dorado where frieren meets himmel is also a freaking masterpiece. Before reading the manga I thought it's probably covering the strongest part of the story + having a great adaptation which made it the highest rated anime for the time being. But after reading the manga I realized best parts aren't even covered in S1. It quickly become one of my all favorites, It sucks to wait for it tho specially the indefinite hiatus. But if it brings us a season 2 even I'm definitely more than happy 😁

If you're a manga reader, you absolutely _have_ to watch the anime. It is the _perfect_ adaptation. Everything in the manga is in the anime, and everything the anime adds is improvement. And even if you're a source material purist, the vast majority of the added material is embellishment, not the always dreaded filler. IIRC, there were only two added scenes, and they were each seamless enough that I can't currently remember where one of them is.
I can't recommend the anime enough, especially to manga readers. Trust me.
They make some small changes here and there and I think some make the story better and some worse, but it is very minor. For example in the anime Frieren clearly breaks down in a more private part of Himmels funeral, in the manga it seems she breaks down in the church.
The manga is really good.

The incredible OSTs/music,
the insane background arts,
the consistently top tier animation,
the phenomenal pacing of screenplay,
so if you love the manga, you will be doing yourself a disservice by missing out on the anime.
a good source material being done justice by a perfect adaptation is rare case in any form of media. So yeah, you shouldnt sleep on the anime. the anime did the manga justice. the watch will be worth it

It is interesting how Frieren's story can be simultaneously cheerful, sad and even depressing in some cases. The parts where the story can be surprisingly very serious are fascinating. Which caught the attention of many people. I expect the story to be about Frieren not getting what she wanted in the end, but the whole journey was about the journey not being the destination.
I hope and fear that Frieren could choose to have the same fate as Arwen

Same. I'm actually upset that I slept on Apothecary. Didn't watch or read it when the anime was out, then binged both the manga and the anime in a couple of days once I read the first chapter. Both are excellent. Not quite Frieren tier, but right up there. And each is different enough that they both stand well compared to the other.
I was watching both anime weekly and having a blast. Apothecary diaries is definitely a S tier show and maomao is a great female character which I haven't in awhile besides frieren. I prefer frieren a bit more because of the overall story and amazing characterization of so many characters. I hope you enjoy frieren

I love Frieren, usually the anime or manga where I can't just have one favorite but I like all the characters is the kind of anime that gets a special place in my heart, and Frieren is that kind of anime, it's a beautiful and emotional journey ❤

Older slice of life manga has a different pace about them so I'm surprised Frieren is actually pretty new
If you ever get in a seinen/slice of life phase I suggest reading things like "Hoshi no Furu Machi" and "Regatta"

I would not call it perfection I mean what is the point of a manga that get's it's whole story across you in the first chapter anything beside a cow that is being milked
But the whole point isn't just the death of Himmel and her realization, it's her journey inward and outward, there are many messages in Frieren, coping with grief, learning from mistakes and growing, overcoming fear, the value of friendship and teamwork, helping others etc....
