Running Headers is a great addition, although I'm sad about the cross-references.
I love the new Vector Flood Fill. I want to try it out today!
The auto-anchor moving when using the straighten tool. The one thing I miss from Photoshop, now finally in AP!

I love the Affinity suite but I still cannot give up Adobe Lightroom because it handles all my photo catalog and editing needs in one place. If Affinity added a module or an app like Adobe Bridge, I'd be in heaven.

@@AffinityRevolution yep. As a one-time Aperture user i really miss that app, and have been hoping that Affinity would be able to add that library/database style of cataloguing. It has been talked about on the Forums fr a while now, but still would add a real extra layer (no pun intended!) to Photo.
They might up the price if that was added though. I'm ok without that and if you are on a mac there is the Photos app, which is a good database and organizer. I'm not sure what a PC has?
I've switched a while ago to Affinity + CaptureOne as a replacement for Photoshop + Lightroom and I love it. I was using Lightroom Classic so the switch was very easy since CaptureOne supports importing Lightroom Classic catalogs.

I just really hope they get an "auto trace" feature like in Illustrator. It's one of the last holdouts from completely switching.

Definitely, and the fact people have been asking for this for years doesn't really sell Affinity for me. I did buy Aff. Designer and then just two months later, Designer 2 lands and I was supposed to purchase it again. Sorry but not warranted until things like tracing are introduced. I do vastly prefer it to Illustrator for its intuitivity and would love to see it overtake it.
I spoke to someone working at affinity. They said it is something they are working on, but no timescale for release yet.

Updated immediately after the release 🙂 Finally the Dashed Line is now adjusted. I use it very often and its limitations were frustrating. Great the ruler's guides as well and the selection tool (well great updates in general but these ones are the most used by me)

Me too. I'm not a programmer, but how hard is it really to allow the user to grab the crop box from any point on the border. And this took them YEARS to implement! Good grief.

It's nice, but I'm a bit bummed out they haven't implemented AI quick selection and an auto tracer.
Hoped for something bigger, but thanks a lot for the insights!!
Those are 2 of my top wishes too! Hopefully we'll get those in the near future.

Hopefully whatever "AI" tools they add, if any, aren't like the ones Adobe are adding- a huge amount of people are switching to Affinity from Adobe for exactly that reason
@@Abby-ug4xc No ;). That's not true. People mainly switch because of the subscription service.
Adobe's AI tools work and are good. Affinity should add what's reliable to reduce your worktime.
And adding something doesn't particularly hurt, doesn't it ;)? Even if you don't want it.
@@schpeidermann I'm talking about the sudden large influx of people who are switching because current unregulated AI is unethical. If Affinity added current AI tools, I wouldn't use Affinity either.
Thank you so much für showing this changes!! I miss the vectorizer, the morphtool and the function to move objects with the enter key like in Illustrator. Select an object, press enter and then enter the exact distance you want to move it. But the moving part can be done now with the transform panel.
I agree. Affinity has come a long ways, but it still needs a few more things to fully match Adobe.

I'd also like to see an Accessibility checker and option to add Alt Text to images in Publisher, and the possibility to export as PDF fillable forms! 😊

Excellent synopsis. Thanks! Only issue I see with these changes is all of these improvements are very basic stuff that had to be implemented years ago. I'm still happy that they were FINALLY added though. I'd love to see some improvements to the perspective correction tool. It's severely lacking compared to Adobe Photoshop. The batch tool is also quite lacking. You can't even drag and drop your files or folders. You have to manually go and browse your files. I hope they improve it.

Great video. Change color of guides possible? I opened the Guides panel and see a Color Box under Column Guides. I changed the color to bright green butl the color of the guide does not change, it stays blue. What is this Color Box for?
You're doing it correctly. Looks like that's a bug!
Affinity Effects *After effects alternative?* It certainly makes sense, and it would give Affinity much more business. In fact, Affinity could actually purchase Hitfilm which actually looks similar to their products, and change some of the layout and features to make it more uniform, along with adding some more After Effects features to make it more resemble After Effects. There should be an "Affinity Effects", or something like that.
I would love an Affinity Effects! Maybe someday. 🙏

Thanks for showing the updates. I hope they speed up a little and get more added quickly. Everything is advancing so quickly and it feels like Affinity is lagging behind. There is a lot of competition on the horizon.
It's true, they will need to keep the updates coming quickly to keep up with competition (especially with the new A.I. features everyone seems to be adding)

Please please please add the following feature that was available back in the glorious Freehand times: Allow any vector line or shape to be converted into a guide. This is super useful for perspective construction. Please!

I would love to be able to change the UI when working on a windows tablet.... I love Affinity, but I can't use it to its full potential on a surface. And I have seen what is possible with an Ipad!!! 🙁

Hello I'm having trouble with Affinity Photo 2 when I go to export it say's "An error occurred while exporting" all I'm exporting is a psd. the latest version I'm on is 2.1.0
That sounds like a bug, but I'm not sure. I recommend you ask on the official Affinity forums: forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/5-affinity-on-desktop-questions-mac-and-windows/
thanks for the video .. seems like the masking options have disappeared when I updated Affinity Photo
They got moved into the menus at the top of Affinity. Now you go to the Layer menu, and then down to New Live Mask Layer.

Tiny incremental improvements are always welcome but why the version bump?
I am still waiting for the AI selection tools that other suites have for quite some time now.

Would still love to have the crop layer functionality from Designer added to Affinity Photo. I can do 99% of my workflow in Photo, but cropping layers is abysmal in Photo, so I end up needing to swap to Designer just for that.
I know it's not exactly the same, but you can crop layers in Affinity Photo using the shape tools and child layers. I think it's pretty fast. 🙂 Here's a video on how to do it: ua-cam.com/video/ZlcaOw5egA0/v-deo.html

If Affinity Photo is supposed to be a competitor to Photoshop, an easy crop tool is required IMO

I was seriously disappointed when v2 removed "Separated Mode" for Mac. I have 2 huge monitors and always worked with image left, tools right. I can't work with one image locked to my toolbars. If they ever bring back Separated Mode, I'll be the first to update and get the rest of the cool features.
I didn't realize they removed that feature! That's a bummer...
@@AffinityRevolution Yeah. Shut me out of all the updates in v2. So many little frustrations that I KNOW were fixed in v2, but I'll never see them unless they put this back in.

Sorry, I can find no Vector Flood Fill Tool in my newly updated ADV 2.1, there's no bucket icon and I don't know where I could find it to give it a try.
You have to manually add it. Go to the View menu, select Customise Tools. Drag the Flood Vector Fill Tool from the pop-up menu into the Tools panel

affinity should do a motion graphic software to substitute after effects, that's the only reason i'm stuck with adobe, it's a lonely market, almost monopolio

I really like Affinity, its way more userfriendly than photoshop.
But you need way more AI in the Software.
Auto Selection, for background removement etc.
With Photoshop you are way faster.

That's all great and all but I still can't wrap my brain around why the Publisher v2 didn't come with ability to create accessible PDFs. Publisher is pretty much dead to anyone who needs to do that - and a LOT of people do.

Ya, it's a relatively small update. A few new tools & features, but nothing groundbreaking. But as we get more and more updates, Affinity will only get better!
Why on earth don't they follow what most software does? For instance, most drawing software use ALT to duplicate but here, Affinity uses CNTL to duplicate and and ALT to delete. This is why I've never liked Affinity products and I would not purchase the again. They just make simple, intuitive things so unnecessarily difficult.
