In the finale to MewZe's Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare trilogy, I discuss Garden Warfare 3 AKA Battle For Neighborville. This game was a failure and ruined what would've been a perfect series. Why? A combination of bad decisions like removing core character features, and them giving up on updating the game. This game includes new characters like Night Cap, Snapdragon, Acorn, Wildflower, 80s Action Hero, Electric Slide, Space Cadet, TV Head and the Wizard. Not the Spy from TF2 though. Hey MewZe you have to please put some of the same plants and zombies but in different games for example, taking the engineer zombie from the first game where it had like the drone in the second game it was literally basically peashooter’s mini gun and battle for neighbor Ville basically, when do you go next to it it will shoot by itself, makes your shooting weight faster, and it regenerate your ammo by itself
I also forgot that to tell you that every imp in plants vs zombies two every imp have different mech with their different health, attack and abilities

Even if Battle for Neighborville is a mess, I must admit that it had some good ideas in it. For example, Giddy Park. I think that large centers where players can interact with other players is something that garden warfare needed.
Yeah, it would be a dream if it was in GW2 or even GW1

@@swiftie762Here’s what I could think of:
-Upgrades and builds were a good idea, and legendary upgrades were literally just variants. It just needed a lot more to work fully.
-Arena mode being an outlet for a proper competitive mode was great, they just butchered it by removing the ladder and nerfing it to a weekly event.
-All of the new character classes are fun to play as, and actually took advantage of the fact that BFN had no variants.
-The different physics I liked, but I wouldn’t say it’s superior to GW2.
-Faster-paced gameplay I quite enjoy
-Fights feel a lot less one-sided in BFN, because GW2 feels like as long as you can get the jump on someone, you will win 80% of the time, provided the opponent doesn’t have some form of cheese.
Anyway, even if I don’t like all of these changes and still overall like GW2 (by a sizeable margin), I can’t help but admit BFN had “good” ideas.
I love how almost all the footage was from the Story mode/offline mode, because very little people are actually playing the game

Then they just had to focus on kids just to get a parents wallet. Okay fine maybe the new generation ain’t as smart but they aren’t stupid or as slow they know and should learn how to do things. I only slightly understand the fast pacing of bfn and Pvz 3 only just to speed things up as maybe no one has that time to play a long hour turf game in gw1 or 2. But that should be peoples options. If popcap and Ea ever wants to see success to this series ever again they need to break this little illusion of making a quick buck cause let me tell ya something. THAT DOESN’T WORK! People will pay them for things they like not the opposite way around. I wouldn’t be surpised if kids aren’t a fan of this either. Look I like bfn over gw2 but I 100% know that bfn isn’t superior to it.

From a visual perspective the game is beautiful and clearly had SO much work put into it, but the character design department is kind of lacking imo. I like the stealth mushroom though that's pretty cute. Also, the abilies/weapons in terms of game design are REALLY cool.
Personally I prefer the artstyle of the GW games but the BFN artstyle has its merits.
BFN absolutely NAILED the natural environment and lighting, but the character design and more urban areas didn’t feel very PvZ-like to me.
The redesigns are a bit controversial but the animations are farrr better than gw2

They severely toned down the zombie environments in BFN imo while GW2 absolutely nailed them.

I have mastered like 2/3rds of the characters in this game, so I'd say I'm pretty set to let my thoughts out.
1. Yes, compared to GW1 and GW2, it is absolute trash. But if you look at it like a spinoff of sorts, I'd say it's actually pretty solid, but the flaws are VERY relevant.
2. The balancing is non-existent, so you'll be seeing the same upgrades on each character every round. Which can get extremely annoying after a while.
3. The new emoting system is.. actually really good imo. It lets you express yourself more freely without voice chat.
4. Cosmetics are somewhat worse compared to GW2, but those legendary sets you get from the prize map are just perfection. (Looking at you Crazy Colossus Imp)
So yeah, those are my personal thoughts on BFN, and I will be glad to say more if you want me to.
TL;DR: don't get caught in the streets of neighborville-

Yeah apparently alot characters were planned to be added in this game,each character have unique gimmicks and even elemental characters were planned to be added in this game aswell as adding more legendary upgrades (which are the same as varients) to switch up playstyles,this game would have became better if they didn't discontinue it and still developed it but sadly none of was planned made it to the game thanks to Popcap,EA and the community

I think that this game had serious potential. The added mobility makes the game feel much faster than having to slowly move through the backyard battleground and the pvp maps, and it can make every fight feel like you have more control in if you win or not than compared to gw2, at least in my experience
Maybe it’s just me, but the game just looks worse. Not just the change in artstyle, but it looks way too bright and giddy. What made PVZ so unique was its zany nature mixed with an unnerving touch of rigor mortis. Here, that is just gone

Here's some information to clear up some misconceptions in the video.
Garden Warfare 2's major updates were cut early in late 2016 and in early 2017, development on a Garden Warfare 3 began. During this time period, EA looked at the monetization scheme and variant system and streamlined it by switching from a Sticker Shop (loot-boxes) to Rux (Item Shop), and turning variants into upgrades. Due to the game not having upgrades and playing differently from Garden Warfare 2, PopCap renamed it to Battle for Neighborville.
The game itself was going to have more marketing but nothing happened with it. It had multiple leaked release dates, like December 2019 and January 2020. There was an unused tie-in event with Garden Warfare 2 where you would log into the game to get special content in Battle for Neighborville.
“Some” the entire video is just gw2 baiting and hearsay, he clearly hasn’t even attempted to engage with the mechanics, he calls the upgrade system “confusing” despite not having even a single upgrade unlocked from the footage provided
I am surprised to hear so many people dislike this game. I grew up playing all three games in the series and Battle for Nieghborville had always been my favourite of the three. The new classes where amazing and I loved the changes they made to the original classes. They all felt the most unique they had ever felt in the series.
I really loved the new upgrade system instead of the variants. To me it never felt like most off the variants changed the way I played a class. The only difference between Fire Peashooter and normal Peashooter is that I now deal less damage than normal, but set a target on fire. The upgrade system of BFN gives you so much freedom in how you want to build a class and genuinely changes the way a class played. Depending on your upgrades Super Brains can be a lightning fast close ranges assassin, or a AOE damage dealer with crazy self healing. There are even unique upgrades that change the basic attack of a class. I understand that people might be worried about balance when you have to play a class to unlock their upgrades, but (at least to me) it never felt like I was unlocking better upgrades. I was instead unlocking different playstyles for a class I love simply by playing that class. The starting upgrades each class gets are also just really good, so I never felt at an unfair disadvantage against higher level players. I can not say the same about GW1 and GW2. You start with absolutely no upgrades on each class and each upgrade you unlocked just made you objectively better than those without it (like faster health regen or a slower overheat).
I also really love the amazing single player content BFN has to offer. Most missions are just plain fun and their are a few missions that are downright unforgettable (the Dummy god fever dream mission for example). The single player worlds even include unique boss fights and there are a lot of secrets and collectibles to find in each area. The online player count is low, but in my opinion the single player content alone makes this game worth grabbing when it's on sale.
TLDR: The more I think about this, the more I realize I love the tings most people seem to dislike about this game.
I'm a little sad that BFN is probably the last Garden Warfare game we are going to get. These games hold a special place in my heart and I really think BFN could have turned into the best game in the series if it got more support.
If they ever do make a GW 4, I'm really curious what people would like to be added into the 4th game.

I agree with about everything you've said. I'm kinda sick of seeing people upset about variants when probably most of them haven't tried understanding the upgrade system. Regardless, I would've preferred the developers to not try something different too.

Whenever I started to try to play this game, it was overrun with nightcaps built for regening health instantly and having fung Foo on cooldown, or the same pair of guys sitting in thier spawn and spamming dandelions/ impsicles for the entire round. These guys would pick new players to camp and would CONSTANTLY bully anyone even vaguely engaging them, or would go on server wide pub stomp. Months later, they were still doing it and generally would ruin the experience.
There was of course the weird balancing, like making Soldier the worst zombie, and the awful spam of "Every ability one shots you with the world's largest hit box". Hell, the only three Zombies that could survive fung Foo were All star IF You tackled the night cap, pirate IF you immediately jumped into your barrel, and Electric slide if you used her immunity ability. Outside of that, you'd get free kills all day.
I think they pulled the plug because the fan base cried so hard about no variants that they were like. Ok you get nothing 👍🏻
I actually buyed neighborville 1 year after it came out full price irl,with the box and everything.
Since i knew gw2 i trought "welp the sequel may be good aswell"

Ever since they patched Acorn's Sticky Sap Trap, he can sometimes be a mixed in certain situations. I remember how busted this ability is, and it can deal incredible damage during the early days of this game... and then there's Space Cadet
Seriously, despite being Space Cadet lacking long range abilities, she is more capable in dealing with any plant, including Acorn and Oak, where she can easily wipeout the entire squad with her Space Station, especially when she is attacking from above (and has a ton of health and dps).
Yeah, but her main primary fire outside of station is lacking in every department. EVERY SINGLE ONE. Reload is slow, fire rate is below average, damage is only decent, projectile speed is relatively slow, all “justified” by homing, as well her abilities being either kinda to literally trash without upgrades, and as good is the station is, it’s still slow, large, and vulnerable without passengers.
A funny note about Giddy Park: TV Head and Wildflower can go OUT OF BOUNDS with one of their abilities, with acorn and wizard needing a bit more setup to achieve this...
I saw the bow from the 80s action hero and the way you explained it made me say "I've seen this before" before the splatoon flashbacks came flooding back
IDK why you did not just get the Switch version since it fixes a lot of issues with the game like making it so you can do the battler pass at any time in any order, lowering the price of stuff in the shop, and removing microtractions

@@wargreninja6704 Ironically enough, BFN is the least P2W game of the three, as all the paid currency does is give you fancier outfits (which do nothing gameplay-wise), or act as a fast track to unlock legendary upgrades if you’re impatient. GW2 suffers from loot box syndrome and has two paid-only characters (one of which is my channel mascot funnily enough!)
Gameplay is subjective, and I can’t decide on which physics engine I like more, but I really enjoy BFN’s snappier movement and faster-paced action. The marketing though, that’s completely on them, and I can’t defend it at all. It just sucks lol.
I’d like to point out that many of the new characters’ abilities are essentially reskins of old ones
Im not here to start rambling about this as a BFN fan, but the main point is that this is NOT a GW3 as GW2 was perfect enough and trying to expand on it would be waste of more materials then just updating GW2. The most common thing is I see is when people talk about GW2 its always new varients/maps and it doesn't expand or give off a new feeling that GW2 has. That's what BFN tried to do, it gave the game actual teamwork and not some solo warfare gameplay, they gave more opinions for players to fight PvP, PvE, etc. The upgrades are basically variants but you make your own, and allows you to make your own playstyle and not being limited while giving almost every upgrade a purpose while some GW2 and GW1 variants are too broken or so bad no one uses them. So BFN fixed all those problems but no one likes change and that is ok. Lastly, the art style for the game feels like pvz as its always been goofing through the games, ads, and comics. They made it like that to make it feel like PVZ and even giving social interactions with text bubbles and giddy park to connect everyone compared to how isolated GW2 is.

It def could have worked. It's crazy how dense pop cap is tho. They needed a lot more characters and upgrades at launch to make it work. With each element from garden warfare as a playable on each team as well.

A way that the upgrade system could've been better implemented would've been to give visual indicators for the upgrades and to parallel the variants in the GW games, that way there could've been builds that would function identically to previous variants or even combinations of multiple variants, making it the system easier to understand and allow making your ultimate load-outs

Ngl I actually loved the PvE regions in this game, it’s the multiplayer and ops that I find to be the main downgrades compared to GW2.

Look up PvZ 3 if you wanna see probably the most horrendous fall-off of a beloved franchise of all time, shits literally just a Gardenscapes clone and that’s it.
As someone who’s max ranked bfn and is getting close to max ranking garden warfare 2. I’ll give my thoughts. A lot of the problems everyone has with BFN is that it isn’t what Gw2 was. No variants, sprinting, etc… but I decided to look a this from both sides. The thing is that Bfn isn’t garden warfare, it’s in the title that it says it’s basically another spin-off. I don’t think they can make a garden warfare 3 because garden warfare 2 pretty much already did everything. Yeah there’s more characters but they aren’t gonna make Gw3 just to add more characters, Gw2 added so much off of Gw1 and did it perfectly. They really could’ve only made a spin-off from there, but the problem was that Garden Warfare had no support after that. If they wanted to make a spin off, I wouldn’t blame them but the problem is they ditched gw2 for Bfn. That’s a TERRIBLE idea for many reasons, but I won’t get into that. This is where the criticism drew. I say that BFN isn’t a terrible game, it was still really fun completing the prize map and the Pve was honestly really creative. Giddy park (as toxic as it may be) is super creative and can be pretty fun sometimes. However, right now it definitely sucks. They left the game with a drastic meta, and it’s filled with terrible bugs. My take is that BFN isn’t a horrible game, but bfn players have to stop lying to themselves, saying that the game is better than Gw2, despite never having played gw2 genuinely in the longest time. I used to be one of those people and it’s just not true. Sure, BFN had a ton of potential, and I don’t know anyone who thinks that BFN didn’t have potential. The problem was honestly both the community and the developers decisions. If they ever come back to develop pvz games, they’re better off updating gw2 if not both. I don’t really see how a gw3 could fit into the equation anymore, if it even could to begin with. Those are my thoughts.
This is basically it, but I will say that while you can say that gw2 is better technically, they are a bit too different in terms of… almost everything to directly compare what’s better especially considering that the game is just not as “finished” per se. And tbh, I think with more skill and teamwork in mind, the game is more balanced than gw2, with maybe a few exceptions…

I hate thinking about this game because it reminds me of the dark truth that we won’t be getting another shooter anytime soon. honestly if PopCap had a brain behind any of the execs they would have kept gw2 updating and let bfn truly spread its wings as a spin-off to the franchise to get some power behind the franchise. like imagine if the game got its full potential and in an eventual mainline follow up they get all of the good from both gw2 and bfn (and preferably use gw1 art style) and make that as the true finale of the shooter trilogy

It’s clear that EA/PopCap have decided to turn PvZ from a genuine game franchise into a low effort mobile slop pivot with games like PvZ 3 and PvZ Match.
PvZ 2 was a genuine fantastic sequel to the first game but after finishing Modern Day they started dragging it with some pretty bad updates to the point where I tend to recommend people to just go play an old version of the game or a mod called Reflourished.
I loved this game, ngl. People really overhated it bc of the lack of variants. Still one of my favorite pvp games.

@@mmmmmmmmmmmmmMicrowavGW2 is my favourite game ever, but its flaws are very apparent, mainly the balance. BFN was certainly… different, but I can’t help but applaud the balls PopCap must have had to make such a bold decision for the franchise, even if it backfired.

It would be one thing if they were still updating GW2 or developing a proper GW3 and BFN was just this spin-off thing on the side, but it straight up placed itself as a replacement.

Without EA we would’ve never gotten GW to begin with but they are also to blame for pushing the Neighborville reboot project.

wizard is a character that can shoot Med Range Projectiles, and if you charge it up; bouncy balls around that hit people at the worst possible time, has a curse that drains your health, he has a get off me too and can get into Teamates and becomes a turret.
TV head is one of if not the most fun character in the game. He can shoot DVDs from a tv remote cannon, put down a bucket that lets you respawn in a place you put it in, can throw down a tv dinner that works like a mine for a few seconds ( explodes on contact ) and can summon a yeti imp that can do big damage explosion. and also has a melee attack that can be used in a pinch.
Wildflower is a Diet TV Head. same primary, same melee, has the bucket but its a pot instead, she has dandelion instead of a yeti imp that is floaty rather than fast ( fast is better ) instead of a tv dinner it throws out something like a grenade, exploding when it hits someone or the ground.
Just recently got back into pvzgw2 with some friends that never played and were enjoying it so much atm
It baffles me people genuinely believe the reason BFN was shutdown was because the community bullied the devs into quitting...when it's been known their funding was cut due to poor sales for years...

The story is bad, and the game is not unique, and even the first game looks better, in my opinion
Gw overall looks better in lighting and effects.
Compare explosions and projectile effects in the games and gw is much more vibrant and bigger than bfn's.

It wasn't a garden warfare because it barely had what made the last two games, ruined the designs, removed the variations of characters which everyone loved, and overall just made less of an interesting story and hub world's.

I played this one because I always wanted to play the first GW.
And agter your video of the first GW I decided to buy it and I play it from time to time. Sometimes I have to take Hiatuses from it because most of the characters have Semi-automatic weapons making my hand hurt while working on Costumer Support XD.
I never really had access to the gw games so I grew up with battle for neogjbourvile and I was honestly surprised when people said they disliked it
im pretty sure the reason for no variants was because they had to switch to a different version of the game engine, which for whatever reason made a lot of the models and such not work and since they had limited time to make the game they had to just scrap them
Engine switch was a part of the problem in the game development but it wasn’t the main reason.
They were essentially lowkey rebooting the PvZ series with this game (first instance of a brand new logo, different vibe compared to the previous games with the whole Neighborville thing and a new artstyle compared to GW2 which looks mostly identical to GW1 artstyle wise).
They were going for a different monetization system with a high focus on skins and occasional new character class drops (BFN had more classes planned to be added to the game but was cut off short).
They could’ve (should’ve) still stuck to the original GW formula had the executives not forced them to do all of this.
@@astro_nutwell be fair it’s not like they forgot about the variants it’s just in the form of the upgrades one of the games litteral tips litteraly state to use upgrades to make your own variants. That includes all upgrades not just the legendary ones.

There is a good chance the devs knew this was a bad idea but were forced to go along with it anyway. Another thing BFN ditched are the alternate abilities like switching out Chili Bean Bomb for Dark Bean Bomb, etc.
The upgrade system is not a real substitute for variants. It’s pretty much just a slightly fancier version of what GW2 already has and could easily co-exist with variants (in fact there is a GW2 mod called “Loads Of Variants” which alongside adding what its namesake implies, features BFN-style upgrades for each individual variant).
@@astro_nut honestly a smarter thing they could’ve done was turned some variants into like full on classes with there own upgrades, abilities but just suit different roles. I’m not saying bring all 100 something variants back. But like for example how imp is more designed for an attack role as a pressure/fear class pylon imp could of done something similar like that but more around a defense like system yk. Also I’m not incredibly faithful in mod’s making something better. My reason for that is cause mods like that can only be mostly used in a PVE “or simpily put player vs bot”. I don’t hate modders and I do respect some of there work. But I do know for a fact that most modders are short sided when it comes to actual balancing and public mods can sometimes put a lot of risk as well to. Take skid-begone for example they made an addon that was meant to counter hackers yet was turned against them when the hackers found an exploit in other words I don’t fully trust there work as similar to Popcap they only see it as solving the problem not what the consequences will be afterwards. In short there ideas are good but they might not be fully 100% perfect just like my ideas to.
