Battle For Neighborville: The Worst Game Nobody Plays Anymore

In the finale to MewZe's Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare trilogy, I discuss Garden Warfare 3 AKA Battle For Neighborville. This game was a failure and ruined what would've been a perfect series. Why? A combination of bad decisions like removing core character features, and them giving up on updating the game. This game includes new characters like Night Cap, Snapdragon, Acorn, Wildflower, 80s Action Hero, Electric Slide, Space Cadet, TV Head and the Wizard. Not the Spy from TF2 though. That is a different game. This NOSTALGIA filled video essay will make you feel nostalgic for PVZ, and the funny gameplay moments are sure to make you ROFL on the floor!!

Ok
Hey MewZe you have to please put some of the same plants and zombies but in different games for example, taking the engineer zombie from the first game where it had like the drone in the second game it was literally basically peashooter’s mini gun and battle for neighbor Ville basically, when do you go next to it it will shoot by itself, makes your shooting weight faster, and it regenerate your ammo by itself
I also forgot that to tell you that every imp in plants vs zombies two every imp have different mech with their different health, attack and abilities

@@אלוהים-י8ו I’ve proably played bfn more over gw2 an still find it more weird why they removed the glasses. Citron is suppose to be a cool loooking bounty hunter not some general garden variety bounty hunter. It removes that unquieness which is strange since all the other bfn charcters are super expressive except maybe the wildflower or tv head which have a general exercise cause there suppose to be minions.

The biggest reason this game failed besides variants is the fact they tried to make it like a team fps like overwatch but what made garden warfare 1&2 so good is that the game always felt like a big brawl between team
I actually like this style more and my childhood was garden warfare one I played for hours a day
From a visual perspective the game is beautiful and clearly had SO much work put into it, but the character design department is kind of lacking imo. I like the stealth mushroom though that's pretty cute. Also, the abilies/weapons in terms of game design are REALLY cool.
Personally I prefer the artstyle of the GW games but the BFN artstyle has its merits.
BFN absolutely NAILED the natural environment and lighting, but the character design and more urban areas didn’t feel very PvZ-like to me.
The redesigns are a bit controversial but the animations are farrr better than gw2
@@TwilightChomperEnthusiast I think it is fairly PvZ like generally I just prefer the artstyle of the first two games.
They severely toned down the zombie environments in BFN imo while GW2 absolutely nailed them.

Maybe it’s just me, but the game just looks worse. Not just the change in artstyle, but it looks way too bright and giddy. What made PVZ so unique was its zany nature mixed with an unnerving touch of rigor mortis. Here, that is just gone

Battle for Neighbourville gets too much hate, while it deserves criticism, EA deserves all the HATE!
*sigh*... PopCap put the microtransactions in, NOT EA. And besides, you don't NEED to pay for the three new characters, you can unlock them with coins and rainbow stars, which are not hard to obtain.
EA screwed over this game by cutting off its support right when it seemed like there was hope but the microtransactions were not their fault.
It def could have worked. It's crazy how dense pop cap is tho. They needed a lot more characters and upgrades at launch to make it work. With each element from garden warfare as a playable on each team as well.
It's most likely ea thinking about their pockets
The point of the upgrades is you’re supposed to make your own variants.. for example vamp flower and rainbow flower are upgrades for sunflower.. and since you have cosmetics you still have creative freedom to make your plants or zombies look however you want
The only good thing in this game: Foot soldier run animation.
They honestly did this game so dirty, i remember before this game came out it had almost 0 marketing like cmon ea
I think they pulled the plug because the fan base cried so hard about no variants that they were like. Ok you get nothing 👍🏻
As a titanfall fan at least you got a third game
True
Honestly, I actually like Battle For Neighborville. I think it had an amazing storymode and cool new classes. Plus, I actually love the artstyle. However, it's not as good as the style of the other two shooters.
There are still a lot of priblems with the game that I do acknowledge. I feel like they spent too much time on making the backgrounds instead of the actual characters, and they removed variants. (I understand why they might've removed vatiants, but I mean it still kinsa sucks. )
Ranking this on a teir list, it's definitely a step down from PvZ GW2 and GW1, but it sould be at least A tier. At least i's better than PvZ 3. (But anything is better than PvZ 3.)
Plus, does anybody know what version of the PvZ track, "Crazy Dave" was in the beginning of this video?
Man I remember playing gw2 with my cousins. We'd all play as different imps (best class btw). Loved roleplaying in the offline hub just endlessly chasing each other, it was just a really fun and well designed map. We tried the robot mode all the time although we absolutely sucked at it and only once got close to unlocking a party sticker lol. Good times
Ever since they patched Acorn's Sticky Sap Trap, he can sometimes be a mixed in certain situations. I remember how busted this ability is, and it can deal incredible damage during the early days of this game... and then there's Space Cadet
Seriously, despite being Space Cadet lacking long range abilities, she is more capable in dealing with any plant, including Acorn and Oak, where she can easily wipeout the entire squad with her Space Station, especially when she is attacking from above (and has a ton of health and dps).
Yeah, but her main primary fire outside of station is lacking in every department. EVERY SINGLE ONE. Reload is slow, fire rate is below average, damage is only decent, projectile speed is relatively slow, all “justified” by homing, as well her abilities being either kinda to literally trash without upgrades, and as good is the station is, it’s still slow, large, and vulnerable without passengers.
This is weirdly enough, my favorite PvZ shooter…
No wonder I have no friends :(((
There are enough fans that like BFN. This is just not the right video for you then, as it’s clearly intended to attract GW2 elitists.

from what my sis tells me. The gameplay is phenomonal. its mostly marketing decisions and p2w elements that did it in
@@wargreninja6704 Ironically enough, BFN is the least P2W game of the three, as all the paid currency does is give you fancier outfits (which do nothing gameplay-wise), or act as a fast track to unlock legendary upgrades if you’re impatient. I think the reason most people hate it is because they’re used to gw, not a (mostly) story game. I honestly like how they made it more story based. It still has multiplayer and that’s honestly decent. My only complaint is the leveling/characters
Im not here to start rambling about this as a BFN fan, but the main point is that this is NOT a GW3 as GW2 was perfect enough and trying to expand on it would be waste of more materials then just updating GW2. The most common thing is I see is when people talk about GW2 its always new varients/maps and it doesn't expand or give off a new feeling that GW2 has. That's what BFN tried to do, it gave the game actual teamwork and not some solo warfare gameplay, they gave more opinions for players to fight PvP, PvE, etc. The upgrades are basically variants but you make your own, and allows you to make your own playstyle and not being limited while giving almost every upgrade a purpose while some GW2 and GW1 variants are too broken or so bad no one uses them. So BFN fixed all those problems but no one likes change and that is ok. Lastly, the art style for the game feels like pvz as its always been goofing through the games, ads, and comics. They made it like that to make it feel like PVZ and even giving social interactions with text bubbles and giddy park to connect everyone compared to how isolated GW2 is.
This. This is it. This is EXACTLY what happened.
The real problem is EA dropped support so fast.
The complain on the unlockable character’s is clearly just bias + skill issue, it’s way too easy to get these guys
On the sponsor, I tried a similar service and it automatically took me out of ZERO services, it just gave me steps on how to do it and what to email and what not. Some of them weren’t even accurate, so I’m not won over by this, and neither should you
As someone who’s max ranked bfn and is getting close to max ranking garden warfare 2. I’ll give my thoughts. A lot of the problems everyone has with BFN is that it isn’t what Gw2 was. No variants, sprinting, etc… but I decided to look a this from both sides. The thing is that Bfn isn’t garden warfare, it’s in the title that it says it’s basically another spin-off. I don’t think they can make a garden warfare 3 because garden warfare 2 pretty much already did everything. Yeah there’s more characters but they aren’t gonna make Gw3 just to add more characters, Gw2 added so much off of Gw1 and did it perfectly. They really could’ve only made a spin-off from there, but the problem was that Garden Warfare had no support after that. If they wanted to make a spin off, I wouldn’t blame them but the problem is they ditched gw2 for Bfn. That’s a TERRIBLE idea for many reasons, but I won’t get into that. This is where the criticism drew. I say that BFN isn’t a terrible game, it was still really fun completing the prize map and the Pve was honestly really creative. Giddy park (as toxic as it may be) is super creative and can be pretty fun sometimes. However, right now it definitely sucks. They left the game with a drastic meta, and it’s filled with terrible bugs. My take is that BFN isn’t a horrible game, but bfn players have to stop lying to themselves, saying that the game is better than Gw2, despite never having played gw2 genuinely in the longest time. I used to be one of those people and it’s just not true. Sure, BFN had a ton of potential, and I don’t know anyone who thinks that BFN didn’t have potential. The problem was honestly both the community and the developers decisions. If they ever come back to develop pvz games, they’re better off updating gw2 if not both. I don’t really see how a gw3 could fit into the equation anymore, if it even could to begin with. Those are my thoughts.
This is basically it, but I will say that while you can say that gw2 is better technically, they are a bit too different in terms of… almost everything to directly compare what’s better especially considering that the game is just not as “finished” per se. And tbh, I think with more skill and teamwork in mind, the game is more balanced than gw2, with maybe a few exceptions…
Honestly BFN is pretty great, as a game its pretty perfect outside of the many game breaking glitches, most of them ones the general community doesn't know about (thank god) and the INSANE lack of balance. People just give it a lot of hate because it's not Garden Warfare 3, but it was never meant to be. It's got very good pve content and actually pretty good character customisation unlike GW2, I genuinely think the upgrade system in BFN is actually way better designed than people give it credit for. I feel like most people shit on the upgrade system just because it isn't variants (and also most of the time because they just suck at BFN).
@@NeonSqueaky I mostly agree with you. This brings back to the point that their best option was to support both games, not ditch one for another
Ive always liked neighborville purely because i can go on the flank, almost die, and regen in 10 seconds and get all my health back and go in again.
Moral of the story: "If it ain't broke, dont fix it"
Just to make sure, if I'm going to play a fps PvZ, the go to is GW2, right?
Also that remix at 18:58 if fire.
Honestly, the game suffers from being released unfinished. I see what they tried to do and I think they would have released more special abilities for other plants besides super brains, rose and corn. PVZ GW 2 had all the 1st games variants with other characters and more variants released later on while BFN had no variants (fewer characters) which means fewer ways to play so people run out of things to do in game having done all of what a character can do within a few hours.
Bro the Cheeto Chomper part had me dying 😭
Whenever I started to try to play this game, it was overrun with nightcaps built for regening health instantly and having fung Foo on cooldown, or the same pair of guys sitting in thier spawn and spamming dandelions/ impsicles for the entire round. These guys would pick new players to camp and would CONSTANTLY bully anyone even vaguely engaging them, or would go on server wide pub stomp. Months later, they were still doing it and generally would ruin the experience.
There was of course the weird balancing, like making Soldier the worst zombie, and the awful spam of "Every ability one shots you with the world's largest hit box". Hell, the only three Zombies that could survive fung Foo were All star IF You tackled the night cap, pirate IF you immediately jumped into your barrel, and Electric slide if you used her immunity ability. Outside of that, you'd get free kills all day.
GW2 Was best.
I actually love BFN, unfortunately there's so many glitches, where sometimes it would Softlock you, and you have to close the software and go back in.
Thank god the general community has no idea about a lot of the glitches in the game because some of them are insane. The few that are common knowledge are really tame compared to some of the techniques and glitches we've hidden from the community over the years.
Ngl, the way pop cap released the game is similar to how tiny build released Hello Neighbour search and rescue, totally not a plug for one of my videos
BFN isn’t bad, people are just comparing it to a perfect game.
They should have followed the Garden Warfare 1 and 2 formula with more stuff, but instead they tried to make this more like Overwatch and Team Fortress. Not only did they remove the class variants but they watered them down to their most basic form.
The Snap Dragon was a class I wanted in the next Garden Warfare, but it’s basically just the fire or acid breathing variant of the Chomper.
I saw the bow from the 80s action hero and the way you explained it made me say "I've seen this before" before the splatoon flashbacks came flooding back

I hate thinking about this game because it reminds me of the dark truth that we won’t be getting another shooter anytime soon. honestly if PopCap had a brain behind any of the execs they would have kept gw2 updating and let bfn truly spread its wings as a spin-off to the franchise to get some power behind the franchise. like imagine if the game got its full potential and in an eventual mainline follow up they get all of the good from both gw2 and bfn (and preferably use gw1 art style) and make that as the true finale of the shooter trilogy
While the game’s graphics are beautiful, the art style is too damn goofy.

@@zeethenecromancer I think the game was barely even allowed to release honestly.
It’s clear that EA/PopCap have decided to turn PvZ from a genuine game franchise into a low effort mobile slop pivot with games like PvZ 3 and PvZ Match.
PvZ 2 was a genuine fantastic sequel to the first game but after finishing Modern Day they started dragging it with some pretty bad updates to the point where I tend to recommend people to just go play an old version of the game or a mod called Reflourished.
The actual shooting felt amazing but removing variants absolutely killed it for me
Other big problems
1. The only thing the "run" button did was make the maps too big and feel empty
2. Make every character have some sort of utility, like they removed corn airstrike? WHY?
2.1. Wtf were the cactus and pirate reworks? Like a slow charge meter for an almost 1 shot? Plus useless mobility abilities
3. Not only are the maps bigger, but the fact lobbies are smaller made the game feel even emptier
One thing is if they tweaked the upgrades to replace the ones from gw2 and kept the varients it could have been great, i really liked the more character specific upgrades besides '10 more health' or 'useless zoom upgrade' from gw2
I loved the large amount of mostly well designed new characters, but the way its all put together makes it always feel weird, the team-up characters were ok on their own and broken with 4, old characters were changed in ways that werent more fun unlike how the only change from gw1 to gw2 was giving the zombie drone to pirate and giving engie a fun stationary minigun turret
The only thing i loved were the turf takeover ending minigames, even if some were really similar to old ones they were still fun, unique and charming
If they ever make an actual gw3, i hope they keep the gw2 designs for characters, rework the bfn characters (especially acorn and cadet), and give us some varients ffs

I wouldn’t call this an EA bad PopCap good video, but instead a video simply expressing the popular opinion. Unfortunately, said popular opinion involves hating on a game, so it only spreads toxicity within the community which I don’t particularly enjoy.

@@TwilightChomperEnthusiast I was talking about the part where he said “you can blame EA for this” when talking about the three unlockable characters.
@@Megajaybreaker4 Both are full of blame for this series downfall when they decided to take away the decision making powers away from the creatives and put the executives in charge.
Without EA we would’ve never gotten GW to begin with but they are also to blame for pushing the Neighborville reboot project.
I mean GW was an actually relatively balanced and fun game. just sayin'
The lobby was so bad. I didnt play any of the game because the first impression of a infinite battleground was extremely dissapointing, compared to the entertaining game loop I was accustomed to.
First impressions really do matter
L video neighborville diffs your whole channel
I’ve played all garden warfare games, battle for neighborhood is just garden warfare 2 but bad, no passion found within the game
Lmao no neighborville is a poor man's Garden warfare
pretty sure he was joking guys.
Ur joking right?
He ratios u in subs doe 😭
I think the worst part of the game was them taking variants off but giving specific characters variant dmg like why make the game less optional? I hope they make smth like the first game with the new characters like imagine a ice mushroom overall 1st game 🔛🔝
Also why he that hot😭🙏🏾
Also why he that hot his skin is shining😭🙏🏾
Fun fact: PvZGW1 was meant to be way more violent and meant for older audience but if you can tell it didn't happen.
Genuinely Im convinced that the game would feel so much better if sprinting just wasnt a thing
All I'm saying about the acorn and space cadet is that there's a reason the z-mech has a cooldown
Ea talking about how to make bfn: so the garden warfare games are about the classes and their variants, but what if we got rid of the variants? OMG, WHAT A GENIUS!!!!!!!!
I clicked on this video expecting another one the Danerade & VileHyperion-esc reviews which just say “no variants xddd” and then end the video, but this video actually gave the game a chance and, for the first time I’ve ever seen, treated the game fairly. Also you’re genuinely funny- so that automatically makes you better than half the other reviewers for this game lmao. All I’d recommend is to change the title of the video because it just blends in with all the other reviews.
Edit: the title has been changed, W video.
New characters are pretty cool but change from variants to upgrades is not worth it tbh
2:13 finaly someone who understand me!
yo im ngl bro yo a whole opp for not separating the snapperdragon from chomper they are very different
This brought me back traumatic memories when my dad got jumped by some zombies in the town center, unfortunately not even his morning oak could save him 😢
Once I found out that they removed sticker packs, I knew it was going to be bad.
At its current state, this feels like a demo to a game
That’s honestly the best way to put it. Had it gotten an extra year or two of development, it would have felt more complete.
Zombies literally have one more class than the plants which is the most obvious giveaway of this game being cut short lol.
They had more classes planned some of which were already in the files (the next plant class was supposed to be Iceberg Lettuce which was very close to being finished).
The only thing we needed from the third game is to sum up all the advantages from the first and second game, because to be real there are some disadvantages in the sequel (gw2),and they make the game nearly at the same lvl as the first one but still both GOATED.(I don’t wanna write all the things they need to avoid and all the things they need to sum up,because we all know if the new game would be released-it’s gonna a year-2052 at least)
