Good to see that Tilly is keeping you well supurrvised. Beams are looking great and I was intrigued to see the way you picked out the rock/gravel junction in the courtyard. Greetings from Australia.
The beams are beautiful and the shapes have the feeling of hand hewn beams. You have done an amazing job. I enjoy your channel as I never know what I will learn next. Thank you both for taking this journey with you.
I love the attention to detail! I wouldn't have even thought about aging the wood. But they are looking superb, and well worth the extra work! (Even the offcut looked good to me.) I can't wait to see what finish you go for. I thought you might have got the blow torch out for the ends to make them rot proof but spray on bitumen is a lot quicker and easier and wouldn't need the bomberos lol At least all these jobs are one offs, once they are done you shouldn't need to repeat for at least a few decades and hopefully never :) The land is looking great! Well done, even Tilly was telling you :)
Thank you so much - as always!! ♥️ It will be so rewarding once done. Still trialling the exact finish and need to do some experimenting! Have a lovely weekend 😊
I found your channel today, really lucky find! Thank you for sharing this - I learned a great deal, brilliant explanation and video 👏👏👏👏 Had to subscribe!
Michael, 1st coat insecticide, check! Absolutely 100%, second - pocket the bearings in DPC, not check. That spray is a comfort blanket mate, Dan uses it, it’ll last a few years in a wall. Do it properly with dpc pockets, it’s a pain in the arse, plus spray the ends with danspray as a final layer of protection.
The summer already has left. One rooms floor is not ready yet. "One bird is not enough to bring the spring". I am not sure if you can finish that floor until next summer. Good luck.
Enquanto anda a fazer as obras nesta casa aonde vive?
Definitely worth using the wood shaver. I've just bought one to shave off the wood worm powder from a roof joist to see if there is any wood left. There is thankfully so will sand it now and reapply the worm killer. I am going to have to replace my first floor beams at some point and follow how you have done it.
If you can afford it, don’t toy about with DeWalt and Makita for sanders, it has to be Festool or Mirka, they will pay for themselves if you have plenty of sanding to do, also Abranet or 3M XTRACT disks, they will pay you back in the long run, the difference is night and day, believe me.

Oh that's good to hear 😊 always nice to be able to salvage what you can too!!
What mix/ratio did you end up using for laying the stones?
A HL5 mix, about 2 to 1 because we wanted it to be harder 🙂
If you can afford it, don’t toy about with DeWalt and Makita for sanders, it has to be Festool or Mirka, they will pay for themselves if you have plenty of sanding to do, also Abranet or 3M XTRACT disks, they will pay you back in the long run, the difference is night and day, believe me.
Interesting! Thanks so much 😊 we'll have a look.
Where are you from I'm from Pakistan
