"I can't possibly get involved with a co-worker. That would be wrong. Plus, how old are you?" "Eighteen" "I could potentially get involved with a co-worker."
We were probably all stupid kids or teens when this came out and couldn’t appreciate it fully. I did find it very relaxing to listen to to fall asleep if it came on before bed as a kid
I hate how H. Jon Benjamin is now the "Archer/Bob's Burgers" guy, and his first major role is now never brought up. That voice will always be Mcguirk to me.
Actually he was Dr Katz's son on dr katz. But McGuirk was defenitley one of the best characters he ever did. IMO the best but i'm sure some will disagree..
Right I love his shows some how (with the exception of archer) even they tho they are cartoons they portray real life and his jokes are more intelectual not just blue collar fart and sex jokes some times you have to think to get the references in them or look it up
Coach was arguably H. Jon Benjamin's best work! I really wish they'd bring back Home Movies or at least put some of the characters in an episode of Burgers for the fans!
+Drawtoonz Studio I have a friend on skype that 100% sounds exactly like this guy without even trying. He gets mad when people call him coach. We call him coach anyway.
How is H. Jon Benjamin not the most famous comedian, like, ever? Between "Home Movies" and "Archer" he's provided sooooo many goddamn laughs, it's unreal.
"you have a 10 showing... hit or stay?' "what do you guys think? 10 showing, 10 underneath, hit or stay?" "Stay!" "HIT ME!!! 21! 21! what did i tell you idiots!?! nay sayers, all of you!"
My current boss seriously sounds JUST like Coach McGuirk... same speech patterns and everything. Sometimes when he calls me at work, I picture the coach talking to me and it kinda cracks me up. :D
"Ill race to get outta this place Ill race against the other racers" has been stuck in my head for more than 10 years and i wasnt even remembering the first line right
The Bagger McGuirk scene should have been included. And the "Coach wants to wear em. Coach wants to fly away" scene from Shore Leave. Or, like, every scene with Coach McGuirk.
This show lives on through Bob's. There's "The Hurt Soccer" episode which has Bob as a makeshift soccer coach and Brendon Small even has a cameo. Brendon does the voice of the animal control guy in "Dawn of the Peck" as well. Theres a few other references in there too. Like Andy and Ollie are basically Walter and Perry, the former being voiced by Sarah Silverman and her sister. The voice actor who did Melissa also has a couple cameos as well. H.John voiced Jason on home movies and uses that voice for Zander the klepto in one episode.
SUCH a good show. When Cartoon Network was running them at like 4 in the morning, I managed to grab about 23 on my DVR. And that's after deleting some of the less classic ones
My god....Coming here I figured I was one of the only people out there who felt Coach McGuirk was one of the funniest & greatest TV characters of all time....now I see that not only am I not alone but I was right about his greatness all along! I've tried getting my brothers into this show & thew character McGuirk.....they just write it off as some weird cartoon thats on late at night. Bastards...they'll see. Everybody will see one of these days...
it's funny because to this day, even though i discovered this show at 17 yrs old in 2007, i still remember the drinking safely rules from McGuirk. it helped me then & still does @ 23 when i might attempt to drink different things at once. Lol. "Liquor before beer, never fear. Beer before liquor, throw up quicker." ;) this show was definitely under-rated!
I remember when I started watching this show and other shows at 8:00pm at night around the summer of 2001 before I started 6th Grade. Great Memories. Coach McGuirk is still one of my favorite characters of all time
I'm remember watching Home Movies when I was young and out of all the characters, Couch Mcguirk was my favorite. I use to own the season 3 dvd of home movies once.
John H. Benjamin will always be coach Mcguirk to me, his voice and delivery is up there with such legends as Allan Reed ( original Fred Flintstone , Dan Castellanta ( Homer ) and Mel Blanc ( Bugs Bunny characters voices as well as Barney Rubble ).
I've used Coach McGuirk as my avatar on the computer for about a decade now. I assume it will continue this way. And my kids will grow up and learn to use the computer and probably always see it, but never really know where it came from or that it was even a cartoon. And then one day they will get curious or stumble upon something that leads them to this video. They'll recognize his grossly bulbous face instantly, and anxiously load the video to witness this shitty looking character that had apparently inspired my dad for many years, start watching it and be like, "oh god...my dad is an idiot"
I can't hear any of this without imagining Bob saying this. I feel like coach is that perfect middle ground right between Bob and Archer personality wise and I find that kinda funny.
Funny you mention that, I've pondered the notion of McGuirk having his own series, too, and I keep coming to the conclusion that it probably just wouldn't be as funny - a huge part of McGuirk's humor is how he plays off the other characters.
lol ik it's H jon benjamin..but MCGUIRK needs his own show..that focuses on his perspective. ..but then again, he just coaches soccer, and goes home. It's a prison
I always wondered why he didnt just open the car door and stand up lol but it seems like they could still hear him thought the door so the prefornance wasn't all bad
6:35 I remember being like 10 waking up to this in the middle of the night and I carried that with me till this day and I never knew it came from this show
I love when he shows up for the play in the car and at first you can just see him like struggling to open it and his like muffled words. Makes me laugh everytime
"I can't possibly get involved with a co-worker. That would be wrong. Plus, how old are you?"
"Eighteen"
"I could potentially get involved with a co-worker."
He’s so smooth 😂
I miss this show. Didn't realize it was comedy gold at the time.
It’s on Cartoon Network right now,!!!
Nostalgia
Literally on right now
I said the exact same thing after watching a few episodes. Used to not think much of the show when it was first on AS.
Every time Bob says "oh god" I think of Coach McGuirk.
I was today years old when I realized this shit I'm mad too
Actually he was Dr Katz's son on dr katz. But McGuirk was defenitley one of the best characters he ever did. IMO the best but i'm sure some will disagree..
@@princeleo276 McGuirk was most definitely his best character.. If anyone disagrees they are uncultured swine...
Chris H facts
"I successfully completed four out five rehab programs." Lmao, I hear that. Coach McGuirck, my idol.
"Anything too hard in life is not worth doing"
Words to live by
Or laugh by. 😂
The best part about this series is how much of it is improv
That is also what I LOVED about Dr. Katz...
I don’t know how I never noticed that, that makes the show a lot better lmao
Was it improv? Thought it was all scripted
Right I love his shows some how (with the exception of archer) even they tho they are cartoons they portray real life and his jokes are more intelectual not just blue collar fart and sex jokes some times you have to think to get the references in them or look it up
The format was really innovative
Pure genius writing. I love how Brendon goes to McGuirk for advice and then instantly loses interest with his ranting
"In your case, it's probably beer."
Like its a bad thing
06:32
"liquor before beer never fear, beer before liquor throw up quicker"
that is wisdom
Also isn't true! I had beer before liquor just now am an fine!....I think. I don't think so. Oh man, I don't feel so good. Oh fuck........
You have no idea how many times I've used this advice in my life.
this guy knows what to really teach the kids
Everything Coach McGuirk says is the best of Coach McGuirk...
ikr?
His voice stayed in my head after not seeing this for over a decade. Too memorable.
😂
I heard bob burgers and immediately remembered staying up late watching cartoons, falling asleep to this show.
Coach was arguably H. Jon Benjamin's best work! I really wish they'd bring back Home Movies or at least put some of the characters in an episode of Burgers for the fans!
same
Ikr
Andy and ollie in bobs burgers kinda remind me of those two wierd kids in this show... forgot their names
If it makes you feel better, Coach McGuirk did made a cameo in Family Guy's Star Wars. He was in the Mos Eisley Cantina scene.
A CN show called Clarence had someone who looks suspiciously like Brendan in an epsiode in a video store ua-cam.com/video/6GdYBr5cr5M/v-deo.html
Sh** I thought of grapes again
how about no
@@enog99gmbh46 You are the enemy of the people
🎶” And I’ll race against the other racers” always gets me 😂
Best scene
John H. Benjamin has an awesome voice.
+Drawtoonz Studio I have a friend on skype that 100% sounds exactly like this guy without even trying. He gets mad when people call him coach. We call him coach anyway.
+StarvingBum I'd love to have his voice!
i love when he says "yeah" he is the best. so funny.
says funny things?or says things funny?
milan alexich both you dumb kid
I didn't invent the turtleneck, but I was the first to recognize it's value as a tactical garment.
How is H. Jon Benjamin not the most famous comedian, like, ever? Between "Home Movies" and "Archer" he's provided sooooo many goddamn laughs, it's unreal.
Don't forget Bob's Burgers. He's just as funny on that show as he is on Archer and Home Movies.
***** Hes amazing!
***** Hes amazing!
Plus Bob's Burgers and Dr. Katz!
Cate M. Dont forget about his cameos in ATHF
"you have a 10 showing... hit or stay?'
"what do you guys think? 10 showing, 10 underneath, hit or stay?"
"Stay!"

right
If I ever find myself in a moment where I have to simulate driving, I will do exactly what McGuirk did with the "no brakes" thing.
I'll race...I'll race...AHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RACE!
McGuirk is my spirit animal.
"What, you got false teeth in there, Eddie?"
"...as you can see I used to be in shape."
I love when he's singing, and it sounds really clear, and then it cuts to the outside of his car and you can barely hear him over the music. LMAO!!!
the entire driver's ed part almost had me on the floor!
"i'm not done yet! *more explosion sounds*" LOL!
"So then you open a bottle of wine, well in your case beer." Lmfao
"Ill race to get outta this place
Ill race against the other racers" has been stuck in my head for more than 10 years and i wasnt even remembering the first line right
every sentence Coach McGuirk says is the best of him.
I can never hear H. Jon Benjamin without seeing McGuirk.
The Bagger McGuirk scene should have been included. And the "Coach wants to wear em. Coach wants to fly away" scene from Shore Leave. Or, like, every scene with Coach McGuirk.
+Unnatural Vegan there's a part 2 bruh
I'm so surprised to see you on a home movies clip video except I'm not this totally seems like your humor. I'm dying love your channel

I think it's better as "Liquor before beer you're in the clear, beer before liquor never been sicker" but then again that was improv
Classic McGurik...Love him
"Oh my God...NO BRAKES!!!"
"Beer before Liquor, throw up quicker"
It’s something about HJBs timing/delivery... one of the greatest VAs of our time for sure 😂
That women bit at 0:50 was fucking histerical.
"It's not great, but I'm getting somewhere here Brendan. I'm trying."
Coach McGuirk MADE this show.
That's the best scene ever, with eddie. One of my favorite TV scenes of all time.
it's funny because to this day, even though i discovered this show at 17 yrs old in 2007, i still remember the drinking safely rules from McGuirk.

Coach mcguirk is honestly the most relatable animated character ever, hes just how every adult is now a days. Hell even im him sometimes
I'm remember watching Home Movies when I was young and out of all the characters, Couch Mcguirk was my favorite. I use to own the season 3 dvd of home movies once.

And then they find this comment left by dad...😄
I can't hear any of this without imagining Bob saying this. I feel like coach is that perfect middle ground right between Bob and Archer personality wise and I find that kinda funny.
the only reason i watch home movies... mcguirk needs his own show...
YUNGSHELLSHOCK94 It's called Archer haha
Jeramiah Linscott Or Bob's Burgers.

That's one of the biggest laughs I've ever had from a TV show, I swear.
6:35 I remember being like 10 waking up to this in the middle of the night and I carried that with me till this day and I never knew it came from this show
1:45 is a lot like that plan from that Always Sunny episode The D.E.N.N.I.S. System
See, this makes me wonder why they auto tune the hell out of H Jon Benjamin’s vocals in Bob’s Burgers episodes when he can clearly carry a tune.
I remember laughing at Coach McGuirk only to become him. That quote of him completing 4 out of 5 rehab programs hits hard lol
Best coach ever
Melissa has the sweetest voice, sounds like my neice lol
I love when he sings about racing
love it. you put in like all my favorites. good ending with the race song too. totally favorited.
Before there was Archer, there was McGirk…
Quarter for the bus. Quarter for the bus.
Knew guy at work with car like the coach's 🏎😂👍
Home Movies was such an excellent comedy, and H. John Benjamin is absolutely awesome!
H. Jon Benjamin always did a masterful job as McGuirk!
This show has a terrifying amount of genius behind it
The Dennis system before the Dennis system
Hahahah I needed this today. Thanks Coach!
"HIT ME, 21!!!!"
god i forgot how funny coach mcguirk is and this show is.
Wow I can’t believe I found a comment I made 9 years ago... time keeps on slippin’.
Coach Mcguirk is hilarious I'm over here dying 😂😂😂💀
I love when he shows up for the play in the car and at first you can just see him like struggling to open it and his like muffled words. Makes me laugh everytime
Coach Mcguirck is always medium toasted for real, I love this dude
the eddie scene is possibly the best piece of tv ever made
Going to throw up anyway but you throw up quicker, what a lesson and words to live by
So many of their conversations seem like they could have been just, stone drunk, outside of a bar somewhere. Even the cadence and tone and everything.
Good old 2000s
Need a show with master shake and coach mcguirk
He would make a great uncle.
..Huge plume, a mushroom cloud! *raises arms*
I miss squigglevision.
I miss science court.
I always heard, "liquor before beer and you're in the clear, beer before liquor and you'll never be sicker"
HUH-HUH-AND I'LL RACE!
that alcohol segment at the end saved me once, thanks coach
I love the fact that the guy who does the voice has been doing other jobs like family guy and the aqua teen movie.
LMAO at all of this. McGuirk is freaking hilarious.
I used to laugh at Coach McGuirk as a kid and now I’m Coach McGuirk..
I love this guy! Funny as hell.
I love how the first season used the squigglevision used in Dr. Katz.
hahahahaah......coach is the best singer..damn tht was my fav part..hahahaahhahha
I love how he holds up his open hand of four fingers when he says "four" out of five... some animation humor...
A few people have asked which the "21" bit is from - it's from the "Stowaway" episode of Season 3
Some people think this show is stupid. But they just don't understand the comical genius-ness.
3:20 funniest reaction to hitting 21 ever. EVER
only a coincidence Brandon Small makes both my favorite shows. :)
lol when he mocked the driving instructor with his fake explosion
Bestest animated show ever!!! McGuirk is Lord!!!!!
"beer before liquor, throw up quicker"
I learned the hard way.
