? He said several times how he loved Luther's singing, how he knew he'd smash this song, etc. In the beginning he says "Luther's new to the channel, but not new to me"
This was Luther's honoring Dionne Warwick who they cut to in the audience because he was singing the song which had been a hit for her. Luther and Whitney Houston actually used to sing back up for Whitney's mom, Cissy Houston, before Luther had hit it big and Whitney was still a teenager, and Dionne is Whitney's first cousin, Cissy is Dionne's aunt. Cissy had lived with Dionne's mom Lee and her family including Dionne after their mother died since Cissy was the youngest sister and Lee was the oldest. So Luther was really considered a part of the Houston and Warwick clan.
In another post someone (sorry I don't recall the name) had mentioned the Luther and Dionne had a previous falling out, and at this tribute this was Luther apologizing, and their relationship was mended from this night on.
Luther was my "Barry White"! One of my top 10 favorite singers. Miss him, this makes me want to dig up my Luther CD and pop it in, even though I'm alone now!
Thank you for the reaction. Some singers are powerful, some creative, some have great voices, some are great singers...Some are all of the above. RIP and thank you for the years of great music Mr Vandross.
Thank you so much for the company. I just read the writer Ross Gay's description of this this morning -- in his book "Inciting Joy" -- pages 128 - 136: ". . . which, i don't know about you, but i'd be nervous because even though Luther's the one on stage, he's also sitting at Warwick's feet. . . . he offers three or four distinct Lutherisms as a way of saying I'm gonna take this for a spin . . . good morning good evening good afternoon hello bye bye baby . . . he makes us laugh or gasp or smile or clap or reach up or reach out to touch who's sitting next to you, you notice that? . . . Luther inside Warwick's song . . . Warwick watches very closely, never taking her eyes off him. It is something like the teacher watching the grasshopper becoming the teacher. She's studying him, grinning or shaking her head no or waving like c'mon or, even once or twice puzzled, like what is happening? Like, did that just happen? " and Ross Gay keeps descriing it -- disbelief. then "this motherfuxxer" then "We did that." and he goes on through the pages to Dionne wiping tears from her eyes like "she was waving her handkerchief at Luther, behind the captain's wheel of her song, no longer hers. Cute metaphor. ... You might understand that's no longer my position. NOW I THINK WARWICK'S CRYING AT HOW BIG THE BOAT IS." Thanks so much for your share.
YES ! U have just Witnessed & Heard PERFECTION. Yr hand on yr ❤ at < 1 minute says it All, yr head & 👁 wipe at 2 minutes, & on... & u didn't even know what was Still Coming. Enjoyed anticipating & watching yr reactions that I Knew were coming, Because this g.o.a.t. performance by the G.O.A.T. is MIND-BLOWING. GREAT CHOICE , So glad U & Others got to hear & watch. THE BEST 🎵🏅🎶
Funny that you called him a Bad Boy 😁 Luther actually has a song "Bad Boy" (Having A Party).... THANK YOU for bringing some Luther into my day today 🤙🤙Aloha🤙🤙
Yeah A.B., There isn't anything to say. It's Luther‼‼‼‼ The Woman in the audience is Ms. Dionne Warwick.(Whitney Houston's cousin..... Not her Aunt) This is Dionne's song. ( from the 60's) Check out Dionne's song: * "That's What Friends are For.". There is her original solo version, but then there are 2 other versions where she sings with others. 1 is with Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight. 2 is with Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross. Both are great but I think the second version was taken up a notch. Dionne has a lengthy rabbit hole to go through: *" A House is Not a Home" * "Don't Make Me Over" ( one of her earliest hits) * "Anyone Who Had a Heart" * "Alfie" ( The theme song for the movie of the same name * "Do You Know the Way to San Jose". These are just a few. Luther: *" Never Too Much" * "Here and Now" * "Dance With My Father Again. Just a few. Thank you for having such an entertaining and fun channel. You always brighten my day.
Brother if you haven't reacted to For King and Country, please let them talk to you lightly one time, check out their songs Burn the ships and Joy......outstanding group and vocals, love the videos from those 2 songs i mentioned, peaceout and have a blessed weekend
Nobody can sing about rooms and furniture better than Luther.
His cover of superstar by the carpenters still makes me cry to this day😢
100%, another all world song from the singular Mr Vandross.
I am shook that this man has never heard Luther Vandross before. He was THE crooner of the 80s and 90s.
? He said several times how he loved Luther's singing, how he knew he'd smash this song, etc. In the beginning he says "Luther's new to the channel, but not new to me"
Dionne Warwick originally released this song that’s why the camera keeps panning to her, Luther was awesome
