- In this video I run through the difference between MSA and Clearview towing mirrors on our 200 Series Landcruiser.
Our Clearviews have seen over 85,000kms through harsh conditions, but how do they stack up?? The new MSA mirrors are not only cheaper but smaller when stored, does this mean they are better?? Let's find out.....

Some good info there legend! We were tossing up between getting the clearview and the msa, but I think the decision is pretty obvious now. Solid review 👌👌🤙🤙
Nice one... yeah I think the MSA's are our choice 👌👌 take it easy guys 🍻🍻
Thanks for sharing and taking the time to do the work so we have a better idea on what is better 😊
Awesome content 👏 Greetings from south africa 🇿🇦
All good mate, thanks so much for the support from SA 🍻🍻
Nice mate, great information for those looking at these options 👍 Glad I went hybrid camper 😆
Ha ha, cheers mate, definitely MSA are a much nicer mirror 💪👌
Thanks. Talked me into it. I can see your points in favor of the
MSA. Hello from Melbourne
Ha ha, no dramas... I know the new clearvoews are smaller but the whole paint flaking off thing has put me off them until these MSA's have something majorly go wrong with them 🍻 safe travels 😎
That paint is a bit disappointing considering they're $1500!
Solid review, mate. 👍🏻
Cheers for that mate, yes definitely not good after 2 years to go like that :( have heard it from a few travellers too so not just a once off error :(
Good review Marc, looks like you’ve got your moneys worth out of the Clearviews. Cheers for sharing mate. Laurie and Anne.👌👌👌
Yeah they have definitely had a hard life, shame about the paint otherwise we may have just replaced the broken glass... got the msa's on sale so couldn't really pass them up ;) take care 🍻🍻
Hi mate just watched your video, very informative, I am looking at getting some for my 200 series , just wondering if the MSA mirrors work on the auto fold in and out function
Cheers mate, unfortunately u loose all flash things with these mirrors... no auto dip in reverse, no heat and no fold.... the clearviews that have those features are also 2-3 times the price, so u will just have to weigh up the pro's and con's ;)
Miss watching you guys xxx
Ohhhh thanks so much 🥰🥰🍻🍻
Dude, the whole reason I'm looking into getting towing mirrors is for the split mirror. I drive semis in the states and I can back a 53' trailer using the convex mirrors. I think you're doing yourself an injustice not getting used to using them. Lets you keep track of your rear tires and blind spots while having your main mirrors set up for keeping track of your side.
Hey mate, I was fine using them... no dramas with the vision but more the fact that they were huge and smashing my doors... also the paint flaking off is not that crash hot either... I can see pretty much the same amount with the new mirrors, but each to their own... bloody good effort backing those big girls, I take my hat off to ya 🍻🍻
Thanks, very helpful. I was looking at both of those mirror types, the poor paint work on the Clearview has seled the deal for me.
Yes that was a bit disappointing and I have heard it from a few people that there older version ones were failing like that... can't talk about the new style though, but the MSA's are definitely a great mirror 💪💪🍻🍻
Do the MSA come with the downward facing cameras for the top down all round sky view when reversing?
Also do they have the orange light in them for “blind spot monitoring?
The VX Prado 150’s standard have these features & I think the latest clear view towing mirrors for the VX Prado 150’s do come with them as well as the external indicator light as well.
@ianmoone2359 the ones I fitted are very basic, none of those features... but our 200 didn't have any of that stuff before hand either.... all we lost was the reverse tilt down and the powered fold away..... best bet would be to contact MSA directly and see what mirror suits your needs 👌👌
Thanks for the information. Did you consider the OCAM towing mirrors? I think it is still a bit smaller than Clearview with the split mirrors. Cheers
@paulfaithow7199 that is definitely an option... I just liked the look of the MSA so went with them, ha ha 👌
Great video!! I'll hit the subscribe.. really helped me with the choice..
What are your thoughts 12 months on? Still happy with the change?
Cheers for the support mate, we still love them 12 months on, so compact and yet still a great field of vision 👌
Thanks mate! Champion... mine are on order now ;-)
@@Anthony99 all good mate, they are pretty easy to fit too, only about 2 beers 🍻🍻
Hi uncal mark and Antie Kate❤
Well hello there, are u interested in towing mirrors hey?? Ha ha
In the market for some mirrors. How do you go seeing the back of the van when turning?? The MSAs do the job??
Absolutely, they sit out a tiny bit more than the clearviews... nothing beats a spotter though for tight spots ;) another cool thing i noticed is when u flip them sideways the electric movements from the controller are flipped to 😲😲 i thought it would have to be up is left, left is down etc.... nope magic 🤪🤪
@@DucruznOZ yeah Roger that. Yeah we definitely always have a spotter when it’s a bit toight.
We’ve only just got ourselves a big van after having a camper and just getting used to driving with it. Only thing I’m struggling with is seeing the back of it when turning. Driving a few trucks with trailers years ago I always kept an eye on the rear wheels when turning and haven’t been able to do it with our milenco attachable mirrors….and have had a couple of close calls with street signs 😂😂
@@toesuptravelling ha ha, yeah we have had a few "oh shit" moments, but usually overhanging branches on the other side etc.... the clearviews were good for that as u could put the lower mirror facing the tyres and the upper one running the length of the van 👌👌
@@DucruznOZ yeah we had it on a dirt road near home and it was a much tighter corner and I didn’t have the room to swing it out wide so nearly took out the street sign haha. I’ll have a look at both mirrors. I do like the MSA looks better.
I don't understand why anyone would have an issue with trying to judge distances with looking at the bottom mirror on the Clear views, technically it's called a spotter mirror, it's deliberately convex to enable you to see anything that would normally be a blind spot like the lane next to you (more helpful on a left mirror) it's not designed to be used to reverse. The MSA mirror seems to be roughly the same size as the CV main mirror without the spotter mirror so obviously without the extra mirror it would miss any body panel when folded in. On the subject of either mirror being folded in, tho the MSA seems it wouldn't make contact with the body of the car, if it is given a hard enough whack, instead of hitting a solid panel it would put the window at potential risk of being shattered. There really is no saying one is better than the other, they are both excellent mirrors for towing with one having less of a safety advantage of seeing the blind spot. What I would like to see the manufacturers add in either mirror is an electric fold as I have in my Jackaroo and an electric 2 stage extension, even though it would make them somewhat slightly more expensive, the simple convenience of not having to exist your vehicle or needing someone to physically fold or pull in the mirrors every time you get to a narrow part of a track would be a godsend. Also your CV's have a 3-year Manufacturer’s Warranty so you could've tried claiming the paint issue on warrantee.
Definitely a matter of personal preference, but the msa doesn't hit the window when folded back.... also the CV are over 3 years old so the warranty was not available.... it is more a preference thing of what people prefer so there is no right or wrong answer as to what is better/easier to use... this was just my findings 🍻
what is the C.B. antenna and how much. i'm a ham operator.
It is a GME Xrs370 2 way radio with the short 2.1dbi aerial ;)
@@DucruznOZ thanks. KJ4FCQ.
do you have original right hand side mirror of LC 300 SAHARA ? black .
please advise me
Not for a 300, but we got rid of the original mirrors when we fitted the Clearviews, sorry :(
You can't see as much behind your van with msa I'm going back to flat mirrors with convex bottoms you can even see the difference on your garage door
Yep they are definitely more streamline, but I ca still see down the side of the van so that ticks the box for me ;)
You did have the choice to get a one piece mirror from clear view .
When we bought the clearvoews they only had the split style mirror... u r right though, the new ones are a bit smaller but if the paint goes bad like the first gen that puts me off 😥
Are These mirrors Flat glass or convex Glass?
Pretty sure they are flat, doesn't look distorted like a convex glass 👌
At 8:57 is the Clearview rear view and a few seconds later the MSA rear view looking at the garage. The MSA appears to be slightly convex as its view show the entire garage door and its roof. The Ute is parked in the same spot. (This matches the Navara NP300 original mirrors, which are slightly convex, which I what I prefer). Thanks for showing us the comparison.
Cant stand them so confuseing witn half the mirror being wide angle
It definitely has it's pro'and con's 😎😎
@@DucruznOZ do you get used to it ?
@@doctormengele961 i did, but so many people I have talked to hated it and just never got used to it..... everyone is different i suppose 😎😎
