Incredible, I have the same fountain. Some of the fiberglass was actually weeping water so I used Rustoleum brand spray seal on the inside the best I could. It worked, so now I can do the outside which will also help seal the entire unit .Thanks great video, looks great!!
It looks great! What color did you use? I’m working on a project and the fountain is a reddish/rust color and I want it more natural looking and the color you used is the exact look I want.
Thanks! Awesome! Yeah it was a fairly easy project that turned out nicely. I believe it was oil rubbed bronze from Home Depot. Rustoleum Universal Metallic Spray Paint & Primer - homedepot.sjv.io/EmD9K Good luck if you give it a try!
Thank you I also got mine at HD about 12 years ago. I just fixed the cracks and broken chipped pieces. I gorilla glue and then reinforced with bondo (white cream hardener I had to look everywhere for, I finally found an old tube) that blended right in. I remember when i used to use it I had a huge problem with it splashing out all the water in a couple of days. I am using the Saranwrap idea on the lowest bowl lip but it doesn't look as good as someone's videoon YT. Any ideas? Also, what are you using for algae control? That was also a huge problem for me with this fountain. thanks for the motivation. I realized how nice the sound is outside our front door on the porch.
Awesome! I'm sure it will look good fixed up. I actually find when the water level is low, it splashes out. I fill the reservoir all the way up to the point where it's almost flowing back out the holes on the lowest basin. This gives the water a nice flow that doesn't seem to splash. To control the algae, I drop some granular chlorine in the back every couple of weeks. It's just enough to keep anything from growing. Good luck!
@@HandzforHire Wow, awesome. That might be the fastest response I have ever had. Your video told me why it-why upper bowl broke then showed me it could be repaired. I will watch for the water getting too low also. Thanks, I will get some chlorine at the local Leslie's Poolmart. this week! Thanks.
@@sl5311 Haha, I happened to be on at that moment responding to UA-cam comments. You caught me at a good time! Haha. Awesome, sounds like you have a good plan moving forward.
Hi Anna, It's called Rustoleum Universal Metallic Spray Paint & Primer. I picked it up at Home Depot, but you can order off of Amazon as well. I believe they do have white or cream. Here's a link for the search on Amazon. amzn.to/3M3YpVJ
Not too bad, but we had terrible hard water deposits that stained the paint. I made a video recently about it. ua-cam.com/video/tuvhh4fr3fg/v-deo.html Have a good one!!
I have only had my 23" Mercato 2-tier Sphere Fountain for two months and the finish is coming off in places. I don't know if I should return it or finish it with Rustoleum paint as you did. I also have a lot of algae. Was I supposed to put in something to prevent it?
Hey Kathy, yeah, some of the initial paints just don't hold up. It's totally up to you on whether to return or paint it with something a little more durable. To cure the algae, I put some granular chlorine in the back of my fountain every few weeks. This prevents anything from growing in there. Good luck with whatever decision you make!
@@HandzforHire Loved the video but we can't use the chlorine in our fountain, i don't think. It is outside and the birds will drink the water from it at times. Not sure what else we can do to stop the algae.
It's been about a year and has held up very well so far. We have very hard water, so there are a few calcium deposits on the base, but they come right off with a wipe. Have a great day and good luck if you decide to paint your lion head fountain!
I did a real concrete fountain with a paintbrush and the CAN of the Rust-Oleum hammered Bronze. It only held up for two years where water touched it, like in the basin. I had stripped the prior paint but did NOT prime it. Maybe that was my mistake. The exterior has held up fine. I am so sad because I love the color.
Hello, I too have this same fountain!! I' found this fountain and it's in rough shape. I'm looking to buy parts for it and the company is asking for the SKU/item number. By any chance would anyone know what that number is? Thanks in advance!
Good luck with your renovation! I unfortunately don't have the original SKU number, but I purchased it at Home Depot about 12 years ago. I wonder if you could find it on their website or find out the SKU from them.
I know you used Rustoleum Universal Metallic Spray Paint & Primer, but it comes in many colors. Which color is this one? I can see it says in the dark box on your can but can't read it. It's either Dark Stainless Steel, Flat Soft Iron or Oil Rubbed Bronze
Thank you. Unfortunately I didn't have a choice. There's a lot of corrupt people on UA-cam trying to pray off of small UA-camrs like me. Songs that were copyright free 3-10 years ago have been "claimed" by fake owners, and if UA-cam grants them ownership then they collect all of the ad monetization off my video. I get so frustrated because there's really nothing I can do about it, so I remove the sound. This way the bad guy doesn't win, but I don't win either. I apologize for the ruined section of video. Have a great day!
Excellent,I’m just about to undertake the same restoration project and this is the blueprint

That's awesome! Yeah, it cleaned up pretty nicely and is now a cool feature in our backyard. Glad you're updating yours too!
Brave man to spray paint so close his truck, obviously he has never seen overspray!
Fortunately no overspray! Lol.
Thank you. I have a similar fountain we are starting a remake on. Very helpful information. Very similar project. Had to fix upper bowl as well
I'm so glad the video was helpful! Good luck with your renovation! I'm sure it will turn out great!

Can you use this on a concrete bird bath ?
