    In a german video they measured a similar radio (some Quensheng one) directly connect to the spectrum analyzer. And there it didn't meet the specs of the BNetzA (simular to FCC or OFCOM). However, with the included antenna mounted and measured through radio -> included antenna -> air -> reception-antenna -> spectrum analyzer it DID fulfill the specs. To me this means that they designed the antenna to be part of their filter design.

      Absolutely spot on with your comments. The harmonic and spurious signal tests should be preformed using a test jig for the hand portable radio fitted with the intended aerial, then at a set distance using a spectrum analyser connected to a wide band aerial, this is how the test houses do it. Connecting the hand portable through RF power attenuators directly to the spectrum analyser is not the correct method.

      @robustreviews 2 місяці тому

      @@RadioTech7388Yep. This is a poor test method and isn’t recognised anywhere I can find as you describe. It’s certainly not an approved test method for FCC testing - as you say they use a tightly defined RF test - not just plugging a radio directly in to a £30 spectrum analyser.

    • @TechMindsOfficial
      @TechMindsOfficial  2 місяці тому +1

      I admit that my test method is a direct connection via an attenuator to a TinySA Ultra. Although this does provide a "picture" of the emissions, it's definitely not lab scale. However, my "base line" for these tests are from testing other radios made by well known manufactures, like Yaesu and Icom. None of these top tier radios have ANY spurious emissions that are to the level we see from cheap Baofengs. I think in future I will show any base lines of my tests. Cheers!

      @@TechMindsOfficial I think that’s fair mate. I’ve started making reviews myself so I know it’s not easy - a lot tricker than I ever imagined certainly.

    Inside the antenna there's another very flexible antenna like a signal stick.. And there are two versions, the UV-25 and the UV-25 Pro Max with airband and scramble option.

    The UV-25 really does look a chonky bugger. Minor aesthetic point: Why on earth BaoFeng go for fake screws that are clearly part of the speaker face plate? I've honestly not seen that outside of children's toys!
    Shame about the bluetooth speaker/mic, that really is quite poor quality. Ironically the BangGood link has a product picture that says "Clear Volce" (yes, "voice" with an "L"), so I guess _legally_ they could wriggle out of that claim 😂

    To fix the harmonic you just need a lowpass filter. to cut-off all the frequencies above the fundamentals harmonic. Really simple fix TBH.

      And when is the last time you saw someone walking around with a HT with low pass filter stuck on the top. My guess is never. The radio is just another piece of Chinese junk. They are so cheaply made they can't even afford to put the filter in the radio. In the US the FCC needs to start severely fining companies that import them. If they can't even pass a simple FCC compliance test they should be banned PERIOD.

    Baofeng seems to always make radios that are close...but just fall short in an area or two. I've wanted a larger radio for a long time. Playing with teenie tiny buttons can get tiresome, and a bigger speaker and battery are nice to have. This radio, with a cleaned up transmitter, less silly antenna, and some cleaned up style Q's like the orange PTT and weirdly silver speaker grill could be made to be a decent radio. Maybe version 2 will be better.

    The spurious emissions may be deliberate to allow the radio to reach the fabled 10 watts? The emissions only seem a problem on 2m where the power is 9w, but lower on other frequencies with lower emissions?

    Hi, I don't understand much English, but it clears my doubts, on the website where I'm looking to buy there are 3 ads, one for the normal uv-25 version says it has 5-10w for 40 dollars, and another ad for the uv-25 L and pro version It says it has 15-25w for 60 dollars. And all the same buy the cheapest uv-25 for 40 dollars? or the versatile L and pro and even higher? And in the test, how many watts of maximum power did it give? The ad says 15-25w. Is it true or false propaganda, they all have 10w maximum:?

    Without seeing the circuit, I'd guess the radio is using a single RF amplifier that is tuned to the 2m band and does not have any low-pass filters. Frequencies above and below the 2m band won't be amplified as much, and accordingly, the harmonics are not amplified as much, which makes it legal on those frequencies by sheer laziness 👎

    More awful junk that just looks as bad as it performs.
    What is with that silver sewer vent style attachment on the speaker?
    If the manufacturer put some effort into harmonic suppression and less time making ridiculous toy looking bling with over bright LED's, they might just have a decent saleable product.
