    Matt - to optimize the performance even more, put a RFI choke at the tuner feed point!

      I can confirm that by inserting a RFI choke at the tuner feed point I can now get a tune on 160M band! Awesome! Thanks!

      Hi,
      What type of RFI Choke did you use..??
      Curious, given that you pass DC Power down the Coax

    Excellent presentation! Try to use a 9:1 UNUN inline to tune 160M if you can’t put a wire long enough.

    My SGC-211 atu claims a range of 3 Ohms to 6000 Ohms. Does this mean I could directly connect an end fed half wave? Have not tried as station down, pending QTH move.

    I think what you have shown is that there are some common characteristics about wire antennas, expected results, expected SWR parameters, etc., and more often than not, unexpected results that work. Wire antennas are amazing and loads of fun to construct, tinker with, measure the performance and characteristics of, etc., and this tuner seems to help further advance the radio hobby. Nice work, Mat.

    Great video Mat. More and more this is my wanted setup for second half of this year. I will also use 71 feet of wire in inverted L config. From where did you get the tuner? According to the WIMO and PILE UP DX this tuner will be available around mid 2024. According to Chameleon the tuner is not EU complied ?? WIMO also sell the new mAT-50 which is the same as this tuner but with a controller with connection to the radio by the CAT port. Ofcourse this makes it less compatible and is brand related but U can use the tune button on the radio itself. Cheers, Phil ON4VP

      Hey! I got the tuner direct from Chameleon. Looks like they have it in stock and also ML&S here in the UK have it in stock.

    I'm currently using an old old Australian tuner made by Codan, model 4203. It was part of the HF4000 series marine transceiver that was made in the mid 1980s. I have an interface that allows it to talk Icom for direct control from my IC-7100. The only thing it misses out on is the 10m band. It will handle 400W PEP, it works very nicely.

      I do the same with a Codan 9103 into a TS520s it's been to hell and back many times and will tune a barbed wire fence to 1.5:1 amazing tough Aussie made gear.

    I presume if your dipole uses SO239 you just run the coax from the antenna port on the tuner to the feed point on the antenna?

    SGC-230 on a around 16ft fishing rod which is wound with wire with a large winding pitch. I live in an appartment, 7th of 7 floors. I can push the whole thing together when not qrv. The 'other side' is around 33ft long and dropped in the rain downpipe - kinda cloaked ;)

    I believe that you said the SWR could be observed with an external meter. Per the manual "do not connect any device (antenna switch, diplexer, meter, etc.) between the Coupler Unit and Tuner Unit." The control voltage is present on the coax to the tuner.

    I guess it's a solution ( I use a mAT tuner on my 450D ) but it's not far off the cost of a Xeigu G90 and that will tune just about anything ?

    Nice, but the price is a bit on the high side - a CG-3000 tuner + e.g. MFJ-4116 bias tee is cheaper, no 6m there tough..

    Hello Matt. Excellent review. I've been using an LDG RT-100 remote tuner for a couple of years and it works excellent. Seems to have some similar specs as the tuner you tested. The antenna I use with my remote tuner is a 400-foot long wire up 65 feet. The tuner is mounted on an old Oak tree. The wire goes up 65 feet then horizontal 400 feet. I have radials on 160-6 meters. I've made, maybe one of my best DX contacts ever (for me been a Ham since 1971) on this antenna. On 75 meters, on Januaray12th 2024, at 4:30 PM , I worked DK1NO on 3793 SSB. I was using a Xiegu X6100 running 10 watts! I was a 5x7! This is a daytime SSB DX contact on 75 meters using 10 watts! The next day I worked VK2CR on 15 meters. I was 4x7. Same rig and power. This antenna is a great multi-band antenna. 73 de WA3RSL

      Yes - it will tune just about anything! I’ve been using it with the CHA LEFS 8010 EFHW, the CHA MPAS 2.0 Vertical, CHA TDL (Tactical Delta Loop) and even with a Shakespeare 393 Marine HF SSB Vertical with fantastic results!
      I’ve used the tuner with the FT-817, IC-7000, XIEGU X6100 and the PMR-171 without a single issue!

    You risk damaging the tuner by using EFHW wires due to the high voltages incurred. Be careful.

    • @TechMindsOfficial
      @TechMindsOfficial  4 місяці тому

      Not entirely sure I understand your comment. Do you mean damage can be caused by using a half wave length of wire on a band I want to use? It’s 20m of wire.

    • @yt5bos
      @yt5bos 4 місяці тому +1

      Voltages? You mean high impedances? He explained in the video you need to stay away from half wave lengths and their multiples (as one should with any random wire antenna; also, it will not damage the tuner, it simply will not provide a good match). Random wire has around 450ohm impedance, EFHW around 2500ohm and its voltage is just under 700V at 100W power (which is way less than magnetic loop voltages of a few kilovolts).
