You didn’t say anything about how to code the key. If somebody doesn’t know any better they are going to follow your instructions and in the end it will not start So how do we code the new key?
In case anyone has a chipped (grey top) key for the SKIM system and are worried if the ignition lock cylinder was directly connected to it, I can say it does not. I replaced my ignition lock cylinder after re-keying it to my existing set of keys (ignition lock cylinder was the only thing that was bad), and installed it. Worked like a charm! The antenna ring for the SKIM system is around (but completely separate) the key entry point of the ignition lock cylinder. I first disconnected the negative terminal on the battery. After that, all you really have to do it take off the top and bottom steering column cover (3 screws) to access the plunger that you depress to remove the ignition lock cylinder. Thanks, we couldn't decide whether it was the starter or the ign cyl until seeing the video, biggest problem I had was lining up the screws on all the covers taken off. Repair itself was done in minutes and I didn't even lose any screws(most unusual)!

I appreciate your video and your effort. However, on my 2002, I just removed the cowl and then pushed the release button on the bottom of the Ignition Control Lock. In and out in less than 5 minutes.
Once you get it out you can start your car with a screwdriver. There's a groove at the end of that hole. I had to eventually replace the ignition because of emission test. They failed it. Not sure what my lack of key has anything to do with pollution.
I USED CRC On Both sides of Ignition Key & slid in ignit. Let it sit a min or 2 >> WORKED > Tried it 5 x be4 takin it out > All is well>> Mustve been something hanging up a tumbler or 2 inside the ignition. LUCKED out >>TRY IT!

If your ignition stays on, not properly turning the key shutting it off, D N Reverse green LEDS stay on with keys out, and this is left overnight, and van will not start, what did i burn out, I always had to check those LEDS and didn't, i noticed a clicking in a relay under dash, battery seems is dead?
WIll this work on a 2011 dodge grand caravan that has a keyfob? My was getting hard to turn and the plastic keyhole that the keyfob fit into just start being stuck down and I would have to pry it up. and when I had key in ignition, and running, the keyfob would just pop out. So, now it will now start and key is not stuck hard key or keyfob neither one work anymore

It sat a month with the key cylinder stuck wouldn't turn at all before i could change it. I had to remove the steering wheel, turn it over, hit on it to get the key to turn. Great video, one question: My key won't turn to the "on" position, so I'll have to jiggle or shake it for a while to get the bad cylinder to turn "on" so I can take it out. When this happens, the van will start, obviously. Can I change out the cylinder while the van is running, or is this one of those situations where I should disconnect the battery first? (Sorry if this is a stupid question...)
How do you get the column out if you don't have the keys? Or, alternatively is there something I can do to match new keys to my current column? And finally can I program the transponder keys myself? Thanks for the help.

That was a great video on how to replace to key cylinder switch. I replaced the key cylinder on a 2003 caravan i had to remove the steering column turn it over and hit on it to get the key to turn. I replaced the old one with a new one that had the key with it. When i tried to start it, it started and ran for a second are two then stopped. I then removed the new cylinder key switch and used the old key cylinder to start the vehicle it did the exact same thing as the new cylinder
Why did you take all that apart? There was no need to take it all apart. All that needed to come off was the cowling below the steering column lmao. All that dash stuff doesn't need to come off.
Stuck at a busy gas station, at the pump. Could not turn the key at all. Used a flathead to chip out the outer ignition sleeve. Put a little tip of the screwdriver in at a time and broke off exterior cylinder casing, until I could press the release button and pull ignition out. Used a flathead to start the van and rolled out. The video was enough to give me the confidence to try it.
this worked like a charm for me thank you. i would add pull the negative post on batterie and plug the one link to tumbler lock back in. rock wheel back and fort to get out of the stuck position to roll key forward to push pin in to pull lock set out.
How do you now program the new key since usually you have use the old key and ignition which you can't do if old ignition cylinder was bad with stuck key.
At least where I live in Milwaukee these vans are getting stole like crazy. The vans are very easy to open and easy to turn on with a screw driver. Some Hondas and Toyotas as well.
As mentioned, no need to take so many sections off. Just the two pieces that sandwich over the steering column gives all the access to need to pull the cylinder as you showed.
Mario Marquez I don't know much about brakes, but that word "Accumulator" reminded me: Mine had a factory recall that replaced the accumulator whatever that is, and mine was a 1993 Caravan SE. You might want to check with a dealer to see if this is still an open recall.
I broke the clippy thing, and STILL could nor get the cylinder out. That small, spring-loaded thingy that keeps the cylinder in place is seemingly impossible to depress and then pull out the cylinder. Total frustration. But what the hell? Taxis to work only cost $100 for a 25-miles ride. That's $1000 for the week...
NOT said in this video is that the key MUST BE turned away from OFF in order to depress the small, spring-loaded thingy that keeps the lock cylinder locked into the sleeve that affixes the cylinder in place. When the key is turned, the keeper thingy is very easy to depress and the cylinder pulls right out. Just a few seconds of that being detailed in the video would have taken away tons of my personal frustration in this exercise...
ok i just have one question. what if the key has the sensor on it ? How do you install this to allow the computer to verify he new key? the part is 85$ (ignition lock and key with sensor ) and the mechanic is going to charge me something ridiculous. i could do it if it didnt have the sensor... is there more work involved with this kind of lock and how do you do it
had to forfeit alarm I believe and find a lock cylinder compatible with it that didn't have chip so I could use a chipless key. I Know I didn't get a dealer key. some videos say if you adjust steering will and try other things it may work.
well i just took pliers to it then by hand juggled for a minute or so and went in on position and came right out putting flat head to metal thing on bottom
So my key won't turn to the start position and that's why I'm doing this. So because I can't get it into the start position I can't get the ignition switch clip to release. Am I screwed?
that happened to me, i put the key in and took another object and smashed my key into the lock cylinder that was able to free it up but know that when you do you will then need to change it at the time so have the part ready. hope this helps by the way i just took off the three screws he shows on the bottom of the steering column and i was able to remove it without all that diss-assembly of all those panels. this is fairly easy to do.
You don't need to take any of the plastic of to push the active retainer. Just tilt the wheel up and push the retainer trough the gap.

2003 caravan radio, wipers and a few other things don't work sometimes. Could this be ignition switch or some other issue?
Yes it might be an Ignition Switch issues, since accessories are related to Ignition switch like radio, wiper, windows control..etc

Yes you can rekey to existing key by using Dorman 924-703 replacement ignition lock cylinder.
How do you now program the new key since usually you have use the old key and ignition which you can't do if old ignition cylinder was bad with stuck key.

What did you end up doing?
Remove the key and spray some wd40 into key hole. Then reinsert key, tap on end of key repeatedly with hammer for 5 seconds then turn key.
