Great review! This is a supremely legible pilot watch. I love this clean, simple look. Tons of people sleep on Citizen, me included. I really need to get my hands on one soon.
You are right, I looked at this and didn't buy due to the size. I believe pressed clasps are often more comfortable than milled, and a well fitted hollow end link is lighter and makes strap changes easier 👍
I love my Citizens and Bulova watches. This Citizen is of course an Automatic not an Eco Drive. I like the quality of the bigger brands. I am glad James you didn't compare this to an Ali Express homage watch. Great review, I get why you like this one.
The way that big-on-paper case fits the wrist reminds me of a vostok or a turtle. They fit way better than the diameter measurement would have you think at first blush. I like this watch. Thanks for introducing it to me.
James i agree with everything you said. Cool watch and as a daily beater you can still change the bracelet and give it a whole new look. I wouldn't compare it to Chinese brands as you mentioned it is a large japanese manufacturer..
I have this in the 71J, same case etc just a different dial. Decent watch, I wanted a citizen automatic so I bought it. I’m not a huge fan of miyota movements and had to regulate mine. Bang for buck it’s a great watch.

I’ve been looking for a long long time for a citizen that appeals to me and today I’ve finally seen 2, this one and the New Brycen super titanium chronograph ( reviewed recently on another channel). Would you mind letting us know where you got it? As I can only find the blue version and I agree with you that the black is so much nicer.
I'm almost embarrassed to say I still don't have a Citizen despite having a 25 watch collection. It's something I do plan to put right soon.. This one is very nice and worth consideration. Thanks James! Just noticed the case shape isn't dissimilar to the Merkur military you just showed us.
It does have that type of case shape. I’ve found lots of citizens I like. But finding one that I love enough to buy has been harder than I expected. This is the one for me.
Citizen are a real sleeper brand,, everyone knows about the leading edge models ecodrive,atomic,satelite....nobody really notices that they have a more basic line of very nice budget products, bit of a shame really.
