  • Here’s a look at my wife’s bow configuration
I’m asked constantly “What should I get for my wife or kids?” Here’s a video showing my choices. What’s the most important thing is draw weight they can draw properly and maintain technique. This is virtually what she has used for 15 years even though bow models have varied. Her 26.5” draw and 40lb PSE Levitate bow is the ultimate because the overall weight is lighter and easier to handle all day on the mountain. Her arrow has been an axis with an aluminum insert the vast majority of the time. I’ve tried others but keep going back to these. Once again, I don’t favor a super heavy arrow because the speed is already fairly slow and reaction time has more of an impact for well places arrows at closer distance than a heavier high arching arrows. She shoots a silverback mini release 100% of the time and for broadheads has used the G5 Montec the most. I believe Sharon is around 100% with this setup for turkeys, hogs, deer, plains game, kudu and wildebeest up to elk. With her configuration we keep distances close which is better ethically as well.

As a guy who shoots a lower draw weight due to shoulder issues, it is nice to see videos talking about low draw weight.

I think keeping shots at a controlled setting and controlled shot angle is something all archers should strive for. Not just a female bow step up. Keeping your max at 30 yards for whitetail is a good rule of thumb for most hunters imo

Nothing wrong with that Dud. Keeping it simple and sticking to her game plan of being patient and waiting for the correct shot. Keep up the great work.

More women’s set ups please! So hard to find good info for short draw/ low draw weight! Most archery “dudes” say you cant kill unless you shoot 75lb with 600 gn arrow. A lot of new women shooters out there are told they cant because they only pull 40 lb.

Love it. Not a fan of the rest myself but can see why she likes it. That bow with my QAD in a 60-70lb model would be my dream bow. Sadly im stuck on an older evo 35 : (

Props for being smart and ethical hunters. Some people's egos are pretty out of control these days.

Great information for me as a low poundage shooter .
Would you ever consider teaching a bow build on a single cam bow ?

You don't need a 70lb Bow . Period.... Here's a perfect example 🏹👍 Ted's wife shoots 37lbs and she's killed everything with her Bow also

I know you're a bow builder now, but I'm really curious why you wouldn't put her in a PSE Full Throttle turned down to 35lbs?

I have always wondered the specs so we can mimic this for my wife. I do have one issue/question, my wife has a 23" draw so most models can't go low enough on the draw length to accommodate. Any insight/recommendations for a bow to get that low draw length?

What setup did you get the 40lbs on my local archery shop said 50lbs is the lowest weight. My wife really likes the levitate and I would love to get her on but she really needs 40lbs???

5:30 Basically Keep the shooter Fully responsible in their shot. All too often I hear about a lost deer, and they mention they took the shot at 50+ yards.. Better shot responsibility, less lost kills.

Hey Dudley, How is she shooting 42 lbs? PSE advertises only 60, 70, and 80 lb limbs. Are lower poundage limbs available for any of your bows? I have 2 NTN 33's and love them, would like to get my daughter into PSE as well but they dont advertise any lower poundage bows except the Bandit and the draw length is too short for her.

    • @Makka316

The 60lb Levitate limbs can theoretically be wound down to 43.5lbs though that would probably be at the shortest draw length on the S2 cams (25") and in practice most bow companies seem to produce bows that are higher than the rated poundage so I'm guessing, in this particular case, they made some custom limbs in order to get down that low?

That's actually not a light arrow for her draw weight. A 340 grain arrow at 40# is an 8.5 gpp arrow. That would be the equivalent of shooting a 595 grain arrow at 70#.

    • @mikeguy9668
      @mikeguy9668 Рік тому +1

“ a setup that ISNT more than” she control! And that is probably the best statement ever made about shooting a bow. If you don’t have the strength to 100% easily draw AND control the bow you will never be consistent. At any event there are ALWAYS those that draw way too much poundage. Even with 90% let off they straining to get the string back. Wasted energy and nearly always very poor form. Just saying!
