I’d take it up a level and say ‘rapid change’ is the trigger for delusional belief, technology is certainly changing our world rapidly. People need answers to understand the world they live in, they don’t want to accept they don’t know, or more damaging, the hard truths.
Seems to be that delusion is something that comes from an individual imagination, conspiracy is something that comes from others imagination. It’s circular and self perpetuating in nature. Is the mind creating a thought or verifying one; two different parts of the brain.
People who are deluded allow themselves to be, its way of coping. Narcissists and other similar personality types would fit into the zen diagram. From what i’ve learnt recently, they know what they are saying doesn’t make sense, what we perceive as delusional, but could never admit to it for the sake of their ego and self esteem. Its only considered delusional when someone is unable to reason or accept the reason; think critically.
Around 35:00 he says “it just can't be true that half of the country suddenly goes from being healthy to being ill” which I think is pretty naïve, considering the mental well-being of the majority of the country has never been the priority, nor has it been consistently and adequately studied throughout time in history of the US… He saying that we couldn’t have all just become ill, but what if we were ill to begin with?
