A Conversation With Ben Gibbard About "Black Sun" | Fender Tracks | Fender

Incredible that Ben writes the lyrics AFTER the song. His words are like stories, almost poems but wow.
"We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes" had some of the most beautiful guitar tones. I remember reading that Ben was using a Fender Bullet back in those days and I became obsessed with that guitar and trying to re-create that tone. This new signature model is so appropriate and I feel is the closest fender has come to recreating the Bullet. Really hoping I get to try one of these!

Great album
A friend of mine gave me “We have the Facts” and the “Photo Album” I became an Instagram Death Cab fan ever since.
I miss Chris Walla
I dig these Fender Tracks segments. Keep 'em coming, Fender! It would also be cool to hear some of the demos and stems that led to the final version of the song
Thank Fender!!
Legendary guy (and band). I wish I had space for another guitar.
The Antigua Coronado wow
L.
Don’t lie, you’re the master of Tween Hipsters, love you friend!
I like his updates, definitely some choice changes there. Hardly anyone who ever plays a Mustang ever uses the vibrato, though the out of phase switching was pretty cool. I like the rotary knob though - this sucker is a pure tone machine now without frills and I can dig that. Probably more sustain too having the bridge be fixed like that, love the sound of the pickups from the Fender video demo.
An absolutely awesome band and song
The song that Ben was talking about by Gillian Welch is "I Dream a Highway" off the album, Time (The Revelator)
Fender has been making the best guitars and amps Ince 1950.
ben if you are out there, you gotta use some of that fender money and buy a new webcam - its like 100 bucks my guy please for the love of god
Wow haha! You ain’t lying tho!
Pretty sure that video was from an interview call streamed through Zoom or something similar.
Maybe he can use the Fender money to create a better video compression algorithm? 🤷🏻♂️

I have this guitar and I’m having trouble. It wasn’t completely soldered, I took on the job and thought I fixed the cracking noise but no luck. It seems like whoever was working on the assembly line didn’t know what they were doing. I mean the soldering job was extremely sloppy.
He seems like a good guy.
Everybody remember, if you buy a Ben Gibbard model Fender Mustang you're sure to sound exactly like him.
Questiawn.
I don’t know what a Ben Gibbard is. But I guess it warrants a signature guitar.
*We are Evangelizing here today, Jesus Christ is the King of Glory and power, because everyone who believes in him and is baptized will be saved, seek his salvation, Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and salvation, Christ said to be fishers of men and women for salvation, amen...,*

This is my first time hearing Death Cab for Cutie. Sounds like dreary bullshit for sad teenagers.
He needs to start drinking again and give us another Give Up or Plans.... Ya know what they say, "No Heroin No Soul". 😉
It never ceases to amaze me at how this New Age garbage is even considered to be real music. If this is all that is required, anyone can simply pick up an instrument and call themselves a musician. The bar as to what qualifies as talent has been lowered to the point that it has no real relevance or legitimacy whatsoever.
You’re 100% right that “anyone can simply pickup an instrument and call themselves a musician”. In my opinion, that’s a wonderful thing! I would add, however, that it is usually the audience that determines whether they are a *successful* musician or not.
Ben Gibbard is a musician celebrated by masses of people around the world. He’s been making incredible music for decades. I would consider him a (successful) musician in every sense of the word.
Now the question is, do YOU call yourself a musician? :)
sorry you like gatekeeping. thank christ anyone can pick up an instrument and make art, and people like you can't stop them from creating and expressing themselves.
only a closed mind would think they have the authority to decide what qualifies as 'real art'. pathetic.
I was thinking the same. I took the time to watch the video and there was nothing there? I suspect fender wants more non guitarists for more sales.
@@samiam9059 That's exactly how I see it, too. In today's world we have done away with distinctions that matter. We give medals to every participant, we call everyone a hero, everyone is an artist, men can be women and women can be men....! Where does it end? When will reality reinstate itself?
