Ben’s diction and use of mic range is wizard level.
This version of Cath gave me chills.

Listening to him play this song and my brain inserts the drum track. Love the tasteful beats that elevate their songs. I’m a lyrics and drums guy and thats why DCFC f’n rules.
@@mm111303 I am also a music composer and I do my own drum tracks, on keyboard. I have complete control 13 from Native Instruments. And a ton of other things. I also bought this virtual instrument drum program where peter Gabriel’s drummer was actually playing the drums while they were recording everything for this program so it was rather expensive but it’s just like I’m the drummer of Peter Gabriel’s band. It’s awesome!

Can't get enough of his live sets. I almost got to meet him. Chris Walla made a latenight order at the hotel I was doing overnight audit. Ran it up. And I wanted to thrash my co-workers because no one knew them. They knew his songs. But I'm half-freaking out, "I'm the black guy here. They're a big deal". I hope Ben Gibbard re-taps some All-Time Quarterback songs some day.
One of those strange juxtapositions that, while it’s essential to realize the importance of letting go in life, Ben’s livestreams during COVID became something very dear to hold on to.
They were one of the best things about the lockdown.
I was so grateful for those live streams, and I will, too, hold on to those dearly. I revisit them regularly

I never realized but Ben's speaking voice sounds like he's a long lost Green brother. Great to see he's still out making music, nice to hear his voice on the radio station again.

I've always loved that Crowded House song so much, to hear Ben's ethereal voice singing it, perfection.

I have seen Death Cab For Cutie twice in the UK over a period of 6 years. Easily, one of the best live bands I have seen. I hope to see them at least one more time before I am too old (I am 72 and have seen a fair number of bands over the years).

I saw him back in Sept. of 2022, and now that I think about it, I might try to archive some of those recordings and footage
I was a big Death Cab fan up until Narrow Stairs, then fell off, lost interest in where the band were going and went. These new tracks have really grabbed me, though, and I think both performances here of the two new songs feel vital and inspired. Glad to say I'll be picking up the new Death Cab album for the first time since 2008.

So great to see another video of Ben appear on KEXP. It has improved my mood immensely. Such a great artist, and seems like such a nice guy.

Death Cab has been my favorite band since I was 15 when plans came out I am 32 now, and They made me the well-adjusted person I am today. I half think I would be a lot angrier and sadder. if I was not able to let out my feelings with this wonderful music. I owe this man a great deal.

I love this man!. He is such a poet!. I thought Thank You for Today was a sleeper but I've been wrong for years just started recently getting into it. The songs sound really poppy, but they grow on you. I hated Gold Rush but now I love it. Love this band which they were cheaper concerts. $300 to see you in Philadelphia, ridiculous. Whoever pays that for an hour and a half concert is a fool.

I saw them in Louisville this weekend. He made the statement that more time had passed since he wrote one of the songs than his age when he wrote it and that "time is a mother fucker". The sheer energy and physicality he (and really the entire band) displayed throughout the entire show run circles around bands I occasionally see with members in the 18-30 range. So yes I agree, looks like a Dad, but still absolutely kills it on stage more than ever.

There’s so much scenester schlock. We get it, you want to be included in a scene. But what’s your message? I want to relate, man. It’s always refreshing to hear genuine music. Like, ffs, express yourself through your lyrics so that we, the listener, can experience catharsis. I like Ben Gibbard and John Darinelle, but I also like Jason Mraz and John Mayer, both of whom actually express themselves effectively through their lyrics despite being highly commercial. Unless you have the genius to marry concept and lyric effectively, ala Beach House and Destroyer, just stick to writing something that imparts a relatable experience, ffs. So much schlock since the 70s.
