I saw DT in Denver, June 2010 when they were on tour with Iron Maiden. They only played six songs, but it was the most moving musical experience of my life. These guys are just on a whole different plane of existence with their live performances. It's one thing to hear these albums or live performances, but to be able to physically FEEL the music at the same time is absolutely something different. Highly recommend catching them live if you ever get the opportunity.

They really do create some of the most beautiful music I’ve ever heard, never realised any music could be so majestic even spiritually uplifting as what Dream Theater produce. Beyond words, just wow
I was at this concert and was absolutely privileged to witness this performance. I have seen DT many times and firmly believe that this was the best performance I have seen. I am glad someone took the (already pretty decent) CAM recording and attach the Happy Holidays audio to it. There are decent versions of Peruvian Skies, Learning to Live and The Great Debate floating around from this gig!
@@Toni_560 i mean i really like their last album MP just has a different style, obviously my favorite drummer ever but mangini does a good job I'm glad they chose him
This song man... Listening to it, but especially playing it (guitar) is fucking amazing, hard to describe actually. Obviously compared to JP I don't play it perfect, but it's really like a journey. 20 minutes of trying to have perfect timing on brutal riffs that are actually very physically taxing, then finally reaching that beautiful ending solo, such a relief and so amazing to play, thanks DT!
That's enough incentive for me. I'm learning this one next! That's not to imply it will be easy! There are more parts to this song than there are to every song that George Thoroughgood ever put out, combined! Probably a lot more! The time signature changes are as complex as any of the more difficult songs I have toiled over to learn by RUSH! But it was these types of songs that inspired me to pick up the guitar in the first place. Those who are not musicians are sadly missing out on one of life's greatest highlights! The experience of figuring out how to play a masterpiece of music like this. And then repeating it enough that it becomes as simple as any other routine! Not to imply I am anywhere close to being there.
I really cannot describe with any words that how much I appreciate the sharing, my friend. For me it's one of the best songs ever. I will always regret that I haven't seen this live, but now I think this video gave me some relief. :-) Thx again.

I have heard this song literally over 1000 times (the studio version at least). It just never gets old. This is simply the most magnificent production DT has ever done. I always kind of saw it as a tribute farewell to the Portnoy era, though I do like Mangini even better ;-). It just doesn't get any better than this. Thank you for this live version!!
It's their best song with A Change Of Seasons number 2 possibly. The top four songs are those two with the Six Degrees song and Octavarium. Numbers 2-4 are interchangeable but not number one.

+Irving Adrian pride? They want to keep making music as Dream Theater because they love their music, they love their fans, they love their job. Portnoy wanted to put some temporary stop to that so he can do what he wants somewhere else. Since he can't get his way, he quit.
Honestly, I feel like the official live performances with Mangini have never shown him in a good light. He is always tense and trying very hard to play perfectly, and the mixing usually makes the drums sound weak. But here on the other hand, his playing is great- he's having a lot of fun and beating the hell out of the kit. The harsh criticism against him has got to stop.
I agree. He is a great drummer and obviously a stellar character and good person. Portnoy didn't just make me smile however. He was the true frontman of the band who would stir the crowd, initiate a jam, bring musicality and not merely positive energy to a gig but explosive energy. I still miss him.
they think "fuck now we have to play it live" and they play it with no problems.. on the other hand, metallica still hasnt performed spit out the bone..
Obviously I've never written anything anywhere near this good, but there have been times where I've written a few riffs and it's catapulted into a full song and I've had that exact reaction.
NO think they such perfectionist they write n produce most of their music with the ideal of playing it live and keep pushing boundaries of their instruments. However, think this songs may been a filler song then they realized hey this be an excellent track to end the album n the live show as well hence the length of the song.

Needed this today
Several years ago
In a foreign town
Far away from home
I met the Count of Tuscany
A young eccentric man
Bred from royal blood
Took me for a ride
Across the open countryside
Get into my car
Let's go for drive
I love the way I feel uptight
Just step inside
Maybe you'll recall
I kind of felt curious
A character inspired by my brother's life
Winding through the hills
Seeing far behind
On and on we drove
Down narrow streets and dusty roads
And last we came upon
A picturesque estate
On sprawling emerald hills
An ancient world of times gone by
Now let me introduce
My brother
A bitter gentleman - historian
Sucking on his pipe
Distinguished accent
Making me uptight - no accident
I
Want to stay alive
Everything about this place just doesn't feel right
I
I don't wanna die
Suddenly I'm frightened for my life
I
Want to say goodbye
This could be the last time you see me alive
I
I may not survive
Knew it from the moment we arrived
Would you like to see
Our secret holy place?
I come here late at night
To pray to him by candle light
Then viewing through the past
I saw which is believed
Still dressed in royal clothes
A saint behind the altar
History recalls
During times of war
Legend has been traced
Stuck inside these castle walls
Soldiers came to hide
With barrels filled with wine
Never to escape
These tombs of old that's where they died
Down the cellar stairs
I disappear
Like the angel's share
The end is near
Come and have a taste
A rare vintage
All the finest wines
Improve with age
I
Want to stay alive
Everything about this place just doesn't feel right
I
I don't wanna die
Suddenly I'm frightened for my life
I
Want to say goodbye
This could be the last time you see me alive
I
I may not survive
Knew it from the moment we arrived
Could this be the end?
Is this the way I die?
Sitting here alone
No one by my side
I don't understand
I don't feel that I deserve this
What did I do wrong?
I just don't understand
Give me one more chance
Let me please explain
It's all been circumstance
I'll tell you once again
It took me for a ride
Promising a vast adventure
Next thing that I know
I'm frightened for my life
Now wait a minute then
That's not how it is
You must be confused
That isn't who I am
Please don't be afraid
I would never try to hurt you
This is how we live
Strange although it seems
Please try to forgive
The chapel and the Sade
The soldiers in the wine
The fables and the tales
All handed down through time
Of course you're free to go
Go and tell the world my story
Tell about my brother
Tell them about me
The Count of Tuscany
So much emotion gain from this track !! DT you are and will be the best
