Nate is the medicine we all need right now.
True!
🗨️🤓👍
@@wilsonsmom411 that’s why he rocks
You are soooo right
But only for 3 days.
We just got the medicine last night. Trump! Number 45 and 47!
This guy is blowing up, and I couldn't be happier for him. The hardest comedy in the world is "clean" comedy that isn't corny. Very, very few can do it.
I think the key is that this monologue _is_ pretty corny in places, but it’s done really well in a way that feels good and is still clever. It addresses real stuff (aging, addiction) but in a way that’s almost conspicuously… gentle? I dunno what I’m trying to say. It’s real but it’s not mean.
100%. He's fantastic. I just ordered tix to his tour. Can't wait. Bringing my friend who is very reserved, and since his stuff is "clean" I know she'll still have fun.
Look up Brian Regan's old stuff. He's clean, and hilarious.
@@_UsernameUnavailable_ LOL, great minds think alike! Regan is my favorite clean comedian of all time. When my son was younger he memorized most of Brian's skits, and we went to see him twice. GREAT recommendation!
"So I drove myself to the emergency room...that's a nice relaxing drive...no, after you....merge, everybody merge...i'm only imploding.."
Very wholesome.
Congrats to Nate. A clean comic who has worked his way up and committed to his craft. Finally getting the rewards for being relatable and extremely funny.
I didn’t even notice him as a “clean” comic for a long time because he’s just so talented. It was great to see him get this acknowledgment!
Not too clean: he's on Afrin.
He’s getting into the talent realm of clean standups like Gaffigan, Seinfeld & (in a stand-up vacuum bc he’s a monster) Cosby.
😪🤣🤣
Didn't even notice he was a "clean comic". That's how funny he was
And YET he is on snl doing CLEAN COMEDY......AND HE IS KILLING IT.... EVEN THE BAND IS CRACKING UP!!!!!
And he gets a standing ovation! AWESOMENRSS!!!!
Hello Thank you so much my good fans for the awesome love you all have shown me throughout❤❤
Whole concept of "clean comedy" is just stupid. People should be able to make fun of anything there is, otherwise this is how comedy dies...
@@FishoD Nope....clean comedy is the hardest of all comedy to do.
@@FishoDlol how does that make the concept stupid. like in the world where people can make fun of whatever they want, there's gonna be people who don't wanna make fun of anything, and that gets called "clean comedy". the real issue is if we just called it "comedy," and called everything else "being a dick."
It's not just about the stories. It's his way to tell them with that innocent expression on his face. I love him
What does this even mean?
@@cwg73160Fr?
He’s crushing it and he’s so genuine. He deserves everything he’s getting.
@@cwg73160I understand. His facial expressions, and his mismatched expressions with what he's saying is his genius
I agree. He is awesome. The deadpan type straight face delivery. The shoulder shrug. His intense saucer eyes are captivating to me. I hope this catapults him to the very top. The band was even laughing and clapping. You knocked it out of the park Nate!!!!
Love his deadpan voice and how he presents himself. He’s hilarious and he’s adorable and I’m so glad he’s getting the recognition he deserves
In the future...the floors are all wet. LMAO!!! He takes the simplest things and makes them outrageously hilarious.
Dang he was nervous the first few minutes. But I was rooting for him :)
Such a doll!
Right on the money with the grandma meets grandma it's like 2 dogs meeting through a fence their gonna be there a while 😅so so true.
Hey bear!
one of the best shows in a while. SNL needs to have more comedians and comedic actors as hosts
Crazy idea!
and as cast members!
Oh boy we're talking about water on the floor of a bathroom.
What insightful gold.
When Pete was on it might not have been your comedy standard but I'd take heart over inane nonsense any day.
So true! It’s always cool to see big time celebrities on the show, but the skits are usually better when a comedian is hosting.
and Charles Barkley because he is one of the funniest non-comedic people I've ever seen
Probably the best SNL in recent years. Him as a writer.
He’s really mastered the “i guess that’s how the world works…” energy that makes every single joke here and in his specials absolutely kill. You know he’s performing, but every punch line you feel like this is your friend who is shocked by something in the world who just walked into the room and said “you won’t believe what I just saw”
That’s so true!! Ha.
“She’s rude; I’ll tell you that.”
@@bellis9638 That was so good!! 🤣🤣🤣
This is such an accurate description of why he's so appealing.
absolutely! just accept everything that happens as normal.🙂
Love his Garfield eyes. They add so much to the delivery and belief that he is stupid, when he is really extremely smart. He pulls it off well.
Billy Joel eyes
@@CorePathway oh my goodness you are absolutely right! Hadn't thought of it but it's true
He’s like a South Park character. It’s uncanny
He is the epitome of, "you can't retell his jokes, because you can't capture his delivery and timing."
So great.
You hit the mail right on the head.
I know, right? We can't even figure out what actually makes him so funny. His delivery is so low key and ordinary sounding. Love this guy!!! 😂
And his sort of but not quite southern accent. It’s so distinctive.
Loui C.K. has a similar approach.
@@AbaMiguel there you go. Louis is the perfect comparison, only Nate's comedy being clean. It's like they both end up in spots where they're thinking "wait, is that what I meant to say? No, hold on, the joke is different. Hang on, no, yeah that's how it goes." And they find themselves trying to work it out in their own heads and it makes it 1000 times funnier somehow.
i’ve watched Nate slowly gaining traction and i’m so so happy for him. i’ll never forget seeing him live and his dad coming out to do magic tricks. he’s a gem
Well, this was a pleasant surprise. So happy for Nate to reach this achievement in his career, and great job SNL for recognizing his skill.
You can tell he was nervous but warned right up and killed. Nate is hilarious, very happy to see him hosting!
100% was wondering how do I shut the crowd up if they throw me off my time, but he handled it well
That's how his stand up always is. I've seen him twice
That also seems to play into his style! The "um"s and awkward delivery makes it that much funnier because the flow of the joke becomes unpredictable and a lot of comedy comes from unpredictability! He used it to his advantage!!!
I'm guessing you never watch his standup, I watched him in my home town in 2019 or 2018. He's always like that lol
Very true. I could tell because he normally doesn’t break and laugh, but he did a few times here, but who wouldn’t be nervous hosting snl? Lol
I love when actual comedians host SNL
Yes to this👍
And Bargatze Is so excellent! Funny and endearing! SNL can only be sad they didn't offer him a job when he would have taken it.
love love love it
It’s my biggest gripe with snl. Adam Sandlers whole crew should be hosting!
Yes, its the ONLY time SNL is funny.
Not many comedians can pull off the jokes that Nate does. They are just basic jokes but this guy has mastered dead pan delivery its extremely hilarious
He is clean and hilarious. Few comedians can pull this off, and they are gems.
People say this often enough that I'm starting to think working clean isn't as hard as people have believed. There's always several great clean comics going it seems.
Fuckn Puritans. Dirty is funnier. True story.
Bill Cosby was was clean and hilarious. Total gem. :D
/sarcasm*
*for the sarcasm impaired, that means: "end of sarcasm"
Don’t care if they’re clean. Don’t care if they’re not PC. I only care if they’re funny.
Brian Regan is another that comes to mind. I'd love to see him on the show
I’ve never heard about him before, but, OMG! He had me giggling like a toddler!! Such a deadpan delivery. Was so great!!
Compared to his old stuff this sucked!
His newest special on Amazon Prime had me laughing harder and harder the longer it went on .... 😂😂😂
@@illuminatingone going to check it out
He's a household favorite around here. And not that I don't watch the dirty comedians, but he always finds a way to make simple stuff funny and without being crude!
I love his new special, but you have to see Tennesee kid!! So good!
His podcast is basically 2 hours of him and his buddies doing this over random subjects. It’s such an easy listen and just puts you in a good mood
Hey bear!
For some reason it’s my go to when I go to sleep every night now sure why I should switch it to mornings to put me In a happy mood for the day!
Hello folks!
What’s the name of it
I'll have to check it out!!
This has to be one of the all-time great monologues in SNL history. Flawless, really
So happy Nate just got up and did his thing! Material you'd see at any show - he doesn't need a gimmick to open - his storytelling style of comedy translates everywhere. Props- he deserves every good thing that's come his way!
He doesnt know anything else. Thats just what he does. It really was great tho
By the way, if it’s material you’d see at any show, you’re giving it the characteristics of a gimmick. A repeatable trick that gains attention, sounds a lot like what stand up is in general. You might not like the word gimmick but that’s what it is. Every comedian has a gimmick, their own trick to gain attention from the audience. Literally definition of gimmick
I prefer carrot top but whatever. So many purple don't get prop comedy. Philistines.
Most comedians that host SNL tell their jokes during the monologue. This wasn’t any different.
Nate ranks high among my all-time favorite comedians. I’ve appreciated him for several years now. I’m genuinely happy for him and I love that more people are now exposed to his work. He’s adding some good funny to the world.
I had never heard of him before until someone told me that they were excited he was hosting.
So i watched.
Now i'm bingeing his vids
I saw one clip of him several months ago and quickly made it my mission to find as much of his stuff as I could - he’s awesome! Glad he’s killing it now!
I hadn't heard of him until now and already a big fan 🙌
He jumped right to the top of my list the first time I heard his Starbucks joke! 😂
if you haven't seen it, Nate was the voice actor for Grady in Aperture Desk Job and it was absolutely excellent.
You can go back and watch his older stuff, and aside from him physically looking different, the comedy is just as great. His delivery is so casual that his jokes just sneak up on you. Love seeing him truly being in his prime.
You're right, he's very unassuming. He is so incredibly funny!
His old stuff is actually funny though. This was not.
Plenty of good jokes here. Sorry you're joyless 😅@@cjp1599
Well it would help if he was actually funny (he's supposed to be a comedian right?) 🤔

Commenters sent me here saying this was the best thing on SNL in a long time, was not disappointed.
I ❤ Nate! He's down to earth, humble, and funny. True genuine article. Thanks, SNL, for asking him to host! Great choice!
If he is all that then he does not fit in with SNL liberal Satan worship crowd. Weird. Never heard of him. Because SNL is promoting him he is suspect
I had never heard of him before, but he was awesome last night

Nice job Nate
He's so brilliant, his humble and deadpan delivery of those matter-of-fact stories from his unique perspective is just a perfect combination. As many have said, glad he's getting more recognition and hopefully more specials to come
He has got to be one of the top 5 comedians on the planet right now. His delivery is so good and the way he talks about things is so matter of fact. So funny to me. 😂😂😂

I was guilty of not knowing who Nate was going into this episode. But my God, did he kill it! Best episode of the season so far, and one of the best monologues ever (IMO)

I’ve rewatched his stand ups so many times. He kills me every time! Had no idea he was hosting. Can’t wait to watch this episode in its entirety!
Answer me this is please... . I've watched the monologue/ George Washington skit 4 times so far and they're still just as hillarious as the first time I saw them. I told my brother to watch them when he has a chance. He did and he said they were just ok ... that he'd seen better. Really? Why would someone think that? Is it jealousy? How can someone think that they weren't hysterical? TIA@@liza8079
“Like two dogs seeing each other through the fence” 😂😂😂 Nate’s a comedic genius!
I can really picture it. We know how possessive grandmas are. They don’t even ask further question and try to clarify things. They go straight to protecting what’s theirs. 😂😂

This guy is consistently excellent. He deserves the huge success. Happy for you, Nate!
One of the best opening SNL monologues I've seen in recent years! Feature more comedians!!
This guy is genuinely hysterical , and a real comedian.
He's unbelievably talented. I howl during the pauses -- he totally gets comedy ... the timing, the deadpan, everything. He's the real deal.
Couldn't have happened to a better guy! So great to see the obvious nerves dissipate as he settled into his monologue. He cracks me up every single time.
“Reading is the key to smart.”

One of my favorite things as I watched this live was watching the band in the background, how they genuinely looked to be enjoying Nate. Idk, there’s just something so wholesome about it 😊
Same!!!!

They always have
Looocked in! It's the random chuckle that made it sooo wholesome.
Brilliant opening. I laughed out loud and hard. I always watch the bands reaction to the opening monologue. This time every band member was listening, was engaged, was smiling and laughed too. 🎉
I watch the bands reactions too😂
They always do
I was thinking that they had heard it before during practice because I didn't see a lot of reaction from them. But I didn't really expect any, either. 😄
Yes even the hard to please guitar lady was smiling! The bassist was loving it!
Have heard Nate's stuff over the years but never thought I'd see him host SNL. Def a real comedian so he crushed as expected.
“It doesn’t let up…

Funniest description of a book - and I say that as a reader.
It's just so many words! and...it doesn't let up!
Is this your card?
I love how wholesome Nate’s comedy is. He’s a real one 💪🏼
Nate’s officially reached the top of my all-time comedians list. His approach is, to me, unique because it’s like we’re just having a conversation about random things I can relate to but he’s got a way of delivering it that just kills me. I’m not a prude, I love Chappelle and other more “R” rated acts but this guy (much like Hedberg) could perform at a NY comedy club one day and a church fundraiser the next and never change the act.
Exactly!! Love his clean approach, while i also think Katt Williams has brilliant material and delivery.
@@margie909 Oh I'd love to see Katt host! His voice and delivery alone make me laugh.
He’s legit one of the only stand ups that make me actually laugh out loud. ❤🎉

Aren't many clean comedians out there that I can take but this guy is absolutely a killer on stage. Gaffigan and Seinfeld come to mind as well.
Saw him at Prudential Center in Newark NJ. Such an incredible show. Laughing so much and all clean! Love his homeschool jokes as we are a homeschool family. His dad did about 10-15 minutes of a comedic magic show that was pretty good. He shared how proud he was of his son and that Nate has changed the family’s life. Just goes to show that real talent doesn’t need dirty jokes with cursing and sexual material. The whole place was on fire with laughter.
Amazing job. Have followed him for years and feel weirdly proud of him and all of his success. Well done Nate - you totally deserve it all.

Nate has a very David spade style humor. Story teller with lots of editorializing and under the breath kind of commentary that’s so funny. They both admire each other. What a great monologue.
Yep discovered him via Fly on the Wall (Spade & Carvey) great episode!!
I've only seen David Spade live once but it was the worst comedy show I've ever seen. It was truly awful. His opener was Brian Regan and he was absolutely hilarious.

My thoughts exactly! His delivery is stellar!!
I am so tickled that he hosted!! Such a great guy!!
I don't know if anyone on SNL staff read these comments, but IF YOU DO I want to say BEST SHOW in literally DECADES!!! And yes, I'm old (in case you hadn't figured that out from the ALL CAPS I tend to use). I've been watching since the very first show in 1975. I was a senior in high school, and my group of 5-6 core friends watched it EVERY Sat. night at one of the friends' parents' houses. My curfew was 1:00 am, and it took me 15 mins. to drive home when it was over. My mom would be waiting up to tell me I was GROUNDED. EVERY SINGLE Saturday night!! I kept telling her the show didn't end 'til 1 but she wouldn't budge ("1 o'clock is 1 O'CLOCK!!!). We really battled over that. My dad didn't really care and tried to stay out of it ("if your mother says be home by 1:00 am, TRY to be home by 1:00 am, but I understand you're wanting to watch the show 'til the end, and it only bothers ME if I get woken up!"). Anyway, I lost my mom about 5 months ago (just shy of her 91st birthday!) and my dad, 2 yrs ago (age 93!). I was their caregiver, right up to the very end. A few years ago I asked my mom if she remembered our weekly battle over SNL, and my being 15 mins. past curfew every week~ she chuckled once, and then said, deadpan; "I think I was perimenopausal". LMAO. I think she would have loved this episode with Nate Bargatze. Foo Fighters, maybe not so much. THANK YOU, SNL for (finally!) an episode as good as your first few seasons. It was worthy of being grounded for 😍
And what a dilemma we faced every Saturday night pre-VCR days: go out and party or watch Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, Carol Burnett, and SNL?
Hi! I'm old, too! I watched SNL its first season when I was babysitting. It's cool being old. It's cool when you KNOW sh*t from shinola. Just kinda makes life easier. God bless.
