Here's some things to ponder over: 1) Luxior turns a Planeswalker into a Creature 2) Myrkul turns dying Creatures into Enchantments that are no other types 3) Planeswalker cards that are no longer Planeswalkers still have Loyalty Abilities 4) Dying from lack of Loyalty is a State-based Action that only occurs with Planeswalkers, not Enchantments
@@timelliott9993 infinite abilitys while an enchantment and instant speed as card text is now an activated ability due to change of card type to enchantment ???
Do you still have to pay the mana cost of the card as an enchantment to use it each turn? my buddy tells me I do, but it doesn't make sense, so I'm looking for clarification.
I feel like an interesting interaction is between Myrkul and Bramble Sovereign. For two extra mana, you create a token copy of Myrkul who then can sacrifice its non-token self due to the legend rule, which means the token copy sees another non-token creature die, and can exile Myrkul to create an enchantment copy of him. Bramble Sovereign is also just a great creature to have as an enchantment anyway, and is my recommendation as a sleeper OP card for the deck.
I'm not sure that would be a good idea. You'd be exiling your commander for good, instead of returning it to the command zone. If someone removes the copy, you've screwed yourself.
@@nightshade3122 The commander goes to exile just for the state-based action to take effect, then you can decide to put it back into the command zone or keep it in exile. This means that you can have an enchantment token copy of Myrkul while at the same time having Myrkul in the command zone.
The very first (and only) self-designed card I've ever done was nearly identical to Myrkul in function, except it was Sultia and cared about self-mill. So I'm very excited to build this deck!
In my Murkyl deck, I just run Abzan good stuff. Constellation creatures, Platinum Angel, Op Agent, Kataki War's Wage, Magus of the Moat and Tabernacle, and of course, the Shadowmoor -1/-1 creatures (Druid - infinite green mana, Wretch - infinite discard, Medic - infinite damage prevention) just to name some.
I’d consider putting birthing pod in the 4 mana slot still because you still need the extra 1 to activate it. Otherwise, it can be seen as a pretty big threat and make you the target even though you haven’t even activated it.
Kaya the Inexorable is absolutely bonkers for Myrkul. Especially if you're running doubling season for the extra tokens. Drop Kaya, use her ult then every turn you can recast an exiled creature for free.
So…funny that this just popped up. I too just built a Myrkul deck!! Mine’s…a little different than yours. And terrible. I love it. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Spider. I have all of the Hidden Spider variants and I attempt to win via animated enchantments that Myrkul can recycle should they die
@@AffinityForCommander I’m building it now and I’m going to make it mean . I know after playing it once I’ll be targeted the next time I bring it out .
athreos also getting back your own creatures for some more tokens is just gravy! but yes I believe myrkul is getting ignored due to his mana value. honestly him being in green sorts that out in an instant. can't wait to build him : ).
That wouldn't work for the same reason Kaya doesn't: Both trigger and you can choose in which order. If Myrkull is first, you get the copy and then the card is exiled; then athreos' trigger won't find the card anymore and wiff (With kaya you at least still get a 1/1). If Athreos is first, Myrkull won't find the card anymore. So unless you mean that it's a backup for when you don't have your commander, that's more of an anti-synergy.
@@SourceOfViews ahh shuck! well thanks for clarifying. still think hes good in the deck but im glad I got to know before doing this at a table. Thanks!
Gyre sage gets a +1/+1 counter for every creature that comes into play under your control while it's a Myrkul enchantment. Not as lucrative as Devoted Druid, but it's a good back up.
@@nightshade3122 my bad I went down a rabbit hole and couldn't remember where the rule was but here it is. 208.5. If a creature somehow has no value for its power, its power is 0. Dumb question, but when a nontoken creature dies and there is a token copy that is an enchantment of it, can you still block or attack with them, even if they have power/toughness?
Starfield of Nyx only animates YOUR enchantments (as long as you have five or more), and even brings them back from the graveyard to boot. By the way, both Starfield of Nyx and Opalescense have the added bonus of bringing your other nontoken enchantments back as tokens if Myrkul is around.

Would the new enchantment tokens that come in enter with 0 loyalty since entering with the specified loyalty seems like a planeswalker only rule?

A fair comment! 🤔
You can also use esika chariot to clone the enchanyment tokens
Great idea! 😃
Brewed the shit out of this deck and ordered so many cards. Glad to see a tech on it.
Hope it gave you some inspiration! 😁

Platinum Angel and Fountain watch are pretty cool in the deck

The tokens that this commander produces lose all of their types, so would no longer be creatures (and thus unable to block) 🙂
