Since the guitars were played in the same bad setup it could be a great comparison. Nowadays I´m experimenting with good Kemper sounds and the difference will come out more with better sound. I will make new comparison videos next year!
Thank you! Over all I would always go with the j.custom but there are some situations whrer the other ones are better: Gio: my Nr1 for vacation and unplugged outdoor training sessions, it´s the perfect car-guitar RG550 Genesis: My Nr1 tremolo-system - it´s great to fludder with it j.Custom: it´s my Nr1 guitar in quality and sound
@@austrianpickingpower great explanation. But the 550 can be compared with the JCustom ? And I also have an Ibanez RG3770dx prestige. Have you played it? It’s awesome too
Thats great...means the RG550 is good :) You can feel the difference very good and the dimarzio´s have more output...you need less gain with that one and the sound feels more detailed in higher octaves. I like both pick ups a lot
So the GIO is lower output but more accentuated on the treble. Give it a unique sound. The J-custom sounds perhaps a little better defined on the bridge pickup but overall similar to the RG550, especially with overdrive. I've got an RG550 too, but I found the pickups are great all-round. If you are looking for more shred or s specific tone, maybe change them out, but I think it stands up to the J-custom very well.
Awesome! For me the dimarzio pickups feel a bit different...pinch harmonics are easier but the sound is very similar to the RG550. At first I always thought about changing the ibanez pickups but now I really like them as well :)
Thanks for the reply...just wanted a suggestion...I bought an RG550 a week back.. loving the guitar with stock pickups...but did not find a chance to test the guitar live..how does it sound live? Also lot of negative sayings about v7 v8 pickups..but I found these pickups are very much versatile unless you are into specific music such as heat metal...what's your input? Please let me know...
@@srijanguitarlife4901 for me they sound great...maybe a bit more harsch and crispy than the dimarzios and little less output but that´s the feeling of the 90´s. The RG550 is definitely an insanely good japanese quality guitar with its own character. Congrats for buying an awesome guitar!
I just bought a new (Neon Purple) Ibanez RG 550 here in the states and cost me $999. I wonder where you find the J Customs and what is price difference; is it really worth it? I wish I knew Steve Vai so I could ask him these questions.......#🎸🤘🏻🇺🇸
Awesome guitar congrats! Well over all you can buy 3 RG550´s for the price of 1 j.custom :) To be honest there is a huge difference between that two guitars: - wood - pickups - inlays - bindings - bridge - potiknobs and plugin - mechanics - coloration For me it is totally worth it but honestly they feel very similar because the necks and shapes are same size. I love both of my RG´s and wont miss one of them :)
Chad, I have played the Ibanez RGs since 87’ (I was 15) with a passion and have tried them all over the yrs but you can’t beat their 550 in any color but my favorite was this neon purple shredder!#Ibanez#RG#550#🎸🔥🤘🏻@Chad Kunka
@Chad Kunka Red and yellow are really shining...there´s also a new orange rg565 which is insanely lighning. The purple one doesn´t shine that much but still looks great as well
GIO has lower output and it can generate more articulate string sound on high gain RG550 has the highest output of the 3 and it has the warmth (felt like Duncans JB/59 IMO) but can have ice picky highs JCustom are most well balanced in my opinion, probably a bit scooped but lows are more pronounced
hi im very interested in getting a j custom but is only for heavy rock? i like styles like joe satriani, vai , andy timmons, classic rock and pop and i really would love to hear the j custom play david gilmour marooned one of my favorite track could you make a cover on it?
Basically you can shred on a jazz guitar and play ultra feelful clean lead stuff on a shred guitar as well :) The guitar is just one single ingrediant of your sound...I would say that the amp and the cabinet is more important than the pickup or the guitar :P I dont have enough skills for a good gilmour cover yet...but if you subscribe you´ll maybe see one in future :)
@@austrianpickingpower thats nice cause i really like the j custom the only thing is the pickups they are cheap compared to other guitars at that price point. i like ebmm jp15 whit piezo but i just cant get a guitar that arent recessed backplates not getting one before they make them recessed lol. i see alot of guitar that are similair to ibanez j custom but i prefer the j custom most i see japanese schecters are looking very close and some anderson what you think about anderson?
Tourqoise guitar best sound. Red guitar 2nd best sound. Black guitar 3rd place. Thank you this was cool. I really want an RG550 as my next guitar. With guitar prices so high nowadays a Japanese made guitar with an Edge Trem for under $1,000 is a great deal.
@@acutemadness every a/B test needs a control, in this case the "control" would be that except the pickups themselves all else will be the same. So exact same temperature ,volume , pick, pedals , amp , speakers and guitar each time , playing the exact same thing- the only variable being the pickups . Still it's not perfect scientific conditions but That's the accurate test. Doesn't mean this is a bad video or that it doesn't give an idea of what your getting from each, it's just too inaccurate to make concrete conclusions On pickup "quality"
They all sound good, I love the tone from the gio a lot, specially coming out from an affordable price is mind blowing 🔥🤘
The sound is not too bad but you´ll hear less details and less sustain. Like you said, for that price it´s totally ok
@@austrianpickingpower Yeah true

Surprisingly I preferred the 550 at all times except the bridge which had better drive on the custom. Very interesting video, thank you for sharing :)

Great video great effort
thank you! great you liked it...I am thinking about making the same video format for the j.custom and the rg xxv1

the j custom sounded the best slightly when the tones were clean. With overdrive though, I couldn't tell the difference between it and the 550
